While Carlos Tevez left his Fantasy owners feeling warm and smug once again – Robin Van Persie waltzed gracefully back onto the scene this evening to turn heads and leave even Tevez owners pondering their striking options.

Re-introduced back into the Gunners lineup back in Gameweek 21, we all knew Van Persie’s qualities. It seemed inevitable that they would bring him to the fore soon enough, and so it proved. Exploiting the seemingly relentless promptings of Cesc Fabregas in midfield, the Dutchman was the chief tormentor with two goals, as Arsenal simply toyed with West Ham at Upton Park in their 3-0 win.

Van Persie’s brace and impressive showing has seen him blink decisively on the radar tonight; his emergence as Arsenal’s new attacking consideration now threatens to banish the Fabregas vs Samir Nasri debate to sideshow status.

Arsenal have a run of exceptionally kind fixtures – they have a dream double fixture in Gameweek 27 and this evening we saw them reinstated as potentially the most devastating attack force in the league. Fantasy Managers will urgently need reminding of Van Persie’s propensity to pick up injuries in order to help resist what already appears to be a considerable pull towards the 9.6 valued striker.

Nasri owners will hope that this was simply Van Persie’s turn in the sun; that their man will be able to soon reinstate himself as Arsenal’s key goal threat. Investors in Fabregas meanwhile will be downbeat having watched Van Persie step up to their man’s spot-kick duties and claim the Arsenal skipper’s customary 3 Bonus Points.

The solution to such a problem is simple – buy in Van Persie and cover more bases. You can throw around talk of “eggs” and “one” basket, but on tonight’s evidence, Arsenal have the tools to exploit their forthcoming fixtures in devastating style and Van Persie looks the sharpest in the box.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

he could so easily have had a couple of assists today though. i understand what you're saying though, i have fabs and nasri. i'm gonna give them the wigan game together and if nasri doesn't deliver, will get nasri out and work rvp in somehow. the points potential with their upcoming fixtures is huge.

Its not working for him at the moment. The main reason is the poor(in case of Birmingham) and unlucky finishing of RvP.

He could easily have got 3 assists in bir and whm games.

RvP is a very good player who delivers, goals, assists and bps like no other forward. Hes going to come into my team soon.

Hit the WC button at lunchtime today. Felt good.
    Mmmmm....wildcard.
this is only my second season playing and my first time trying to "play the market" and make a few quid on the WC. My brain is melting. Do I need to be glued to TotalFPL at 12.45 am for the next seven days to make, maybe 0.3m?
Seems like a lot of effort and I actually have a sex life (and 2 children and 2 dogs)

Going off the idea (again) of wildcarding this week. Would mean I'd just Nasri as Arsenal coverage against Wigan but should get away with it anyway with the doubles, well hopefully. So thinking maybe just taking a hit..

    Foster
    Rafael, G Johnson, Coleman
    Nani, VdV, Nasri, Adam
    Tevez, Torres, Campbell

    Subs: Jussi, Dunn, Kolarov, Jara.

Thinking just Dunn > N'Zogbia, maybe get in Rooney if he does well tomorrow for Tevez, and then get Tevez back GW26 for the home game against us?

Yep I'm thinking Tevez --> Dimitar (would do Rooney but sh*t team value) and then get him back. Berbatov will probably rise by 0.2 so we'd only lose 0.1 on Carlos.

Dunn --> N'Zogbia is a dead cert though.

Your team value is better than mine, lol.. I don't have Fabregas though, which I hate, really tempted to wildcard as I'm confident I can still have an epic team for GW27 without the wildcard.

That's what I'm saying, but I'll have 5 or 6 DGW players this week plus Cesc and Samir at home to Wigan so there's not much strengthening to be done atm.

Have an amazing wildcard team in mind but it's early days.

You can still field a very decent team this week so I'd hold off on wildcarding.

It feels nice having Cesc alright, but I wouldn't be too worried, he was amazing today but played quite deep.

              I'm wildcarding 26/27.

I know, the stats say Fabregas & Nasri both had the same amount of shots but Nasri made one more key pass, plus he takes more set pieces.

I just think it's quite short term if you play it 26/27, as your basically picking your wildcard for one week.

This is what is in the back of my mind. Like you say it's quite possibly to have a good team for GW27 even if you WC this GW as Arsenal players will probably carry their weight until GW27 anyway even without a DGW.

Yeah, that's basically the way I see it. I look at my team this week and think yeah it's alright, bar not having Cesc but then I also think I could still have a good team for GW27, especially better than my rivals anyway and seeing as my rank is not great (110k), using it early could see me make up ground.

My proposed wildcard team this week has 6 doublers for GW27 anyway, I just don't want to waste and feel like it might be a waste if I use it GW25/26. Especially with Arsenal/Spurs players missing GW28 most likely also.

Is anyone else thinking of any Villa players for thier double?

I don't actually think they have the worst double, City is tough but they do tend to play well at home against the better sides and normally score whilst Wigan away is not the worst trip.

Could be some good differentials there?

Need Bale to draw a blank or better still limp off after 10mins.

Forgot to check that - cheers TM

    Rafael, Coleman, Kolarov, Bardsley, Agger
    Nani, Fabs, Adam, Nzog, VdV

Any idea what changes should be made if I were to wildcard..im rather happy wt my team although i may do...

stockdale out once the dgw is over
Agger to a Cheapo to fund rvp

    Just panic wildcarded. *fear*

Looking at it now, actually quite pleased. Will pick a nice team, but crucially one that's very much based on the long-term as opposed to getting as much DGWers this week as possible. Prob have 8 DGWers this week, then with three transfers between now and DGW27, should have 9-10 DGWers.

To be honest, what pushed me to do it now was the worry over DGW27 being messed about due to the CC, and the fact that all my rivals will wildcard now, rake in the points for GW23, and I'd worry that I'd be slowly sliding behind a few points each week until 27, where I'd wildcard and it would be underwhelming. I think playing the wildcard then gives you the full benefit of DGW27. But playing it now gives you the full benefit of this DGW, and with a bit of forward planning, almost all of the valuable benefit of DGW27. That's my logic anyway. The main players I'll want for it will be Foster, Carr, Djourou, Cesc, Rvp, Brunt, Carroll, Adam, Coleman, who I can have either through my team now or some transfers between now and DGW27.

Ah absolutely mate, but I kinda feel like that's always part of the game, you still have to plan, it'll always be there - you just gotta hope you get some luck and then roll with the inevitable punches that injuries/suspensions/rotation throw your way. I know this for sure - I had Gerrard, Salcido and Konchesky all transferred in slowly but surely in prep for this DGW!

I did a transfer plan and for GW27 without even taking a hit I'd have a team with 10 doublers and Nani/Tevez. Which basically meant that if I went ahead with that plan I'd have to bench one of them.. So wildcarding now definitely isn't 'too early'.

This was my exact logic mate. Wildcard now, get them into your team, as well as some players to set yourself up excellently for this DGW. You then have three transfers to set yourself up for GW27 (like you said, most of your GW27 team will be in already.)

I do feel that if you wildcard now you can be set up for this DGW, but also very, very well for next DGW.

My biggest drawback is that i have 2 freebies this week and i don't want them to go to waste, but i appreciate that may well not be the case for most of you.

By bringing in say Rooney and N'Zogbia/Dempsey i can have 7 DGW players this week (along with Jussi, Samba, Nasri and VDV) and then use my WC in either GW 26 or 27.

You would only be wasting 1 free. Depends on what you can with the WC over the 2 frees. The more I think about it, the more I am thinking about using the wildcard this week. I lost 0.1 on Konchesky just now but that's minor compared to what could be achieved by using the WC well. Decisions decisions....

Your kind of in the same position as me then, apart from I don't have 2 freebies. Could just get in Rooney & N'Zog this week and have 7 doublers or wildcard! Opting towards wildcard personally.

Seeing as you have two freebies though I probably wouldn't wildcard, and just wait until GW25/26.

Wildcard now, off the top of my head..

        Foster, Begovic
Rafael, Pantsil, Djourou, Coleman, Dawson? (Dunno who else)
        Fabregas, VdV, Nani, N'Zog, Adam
        Torres, Rooney, Odemwingie

With 1.5m in the bank, out of them, Foster, Djourou, Coleman, Dawson, Fabregas, VdV, Adam, Odemwingie are all doublers in GW27. A doubt over Djourou & Coleman obviously but I'd only really have to potentially get in Carroll & RVP to have a strong team for GW27.

Can't imagine that will come into the equation, at least not if he's focussing on football. That league has been in decline forever.

As a United fan, Berbatov has been too frustrating in the past and it would feel weird having him (although I may have to settle for him).

The main reason people are going for him is that he seems to be finding form and the goals will come soon.

No doubt, but give any manager in the world the choice between the two and they'd all go for Rooney i reckon.

It's mainly that game at Blackpool that i'm eyeing up. I just see a Rooney battering, 15+ points me thinks!

because he's hitting form and that generally means a shyte load of fpl points, and he will start more games. I'll have both though so don't mind which is better choice really.
