While Carlos Tevez left his Fantasy owners feeling warm and smug once again – Robin Van Persie waltzed gracefully back onto the scene this evening to turn heads and leave even Tevez owners pondering their striking options.

Re-introduced back into the Gunners lineup back in Gameweek 21, we all knew Van Persie’s qualities. It seemed inevitable that they would bring him to the fore soon enough, and so it proved. Exploiting the seemingly relentless promptings of Cesc Fabregas in midfield, the Dutchman was the chief tormentor with two goals, as Arsenal simply toyed with West Ham at Upton Park in their 3-0 win.

Van Persie’s brace and impressive showing has seen him blink decisively on the radar tonight; his emergence as Arsenal’s new attacking consideration now threatens to banish the Fabregas vs Samir Nasri debate to sideshow status.

Arsenal have a run of exceptionally kind fixtures – they have a dream double fixture in Gameweek 27 and this evening we saw them reinstated as potentially the most devastating attack force in the league. Fantasy Managers will urgently need reminding of Van Persie’s propensity to pick up injuries in order to help resist what already appears to be a considerable pull towards the 9.6 valued striker.

Nasri owners will hope that this was simply Van Persie’s turn in the sun; that their man will be able to soon reinstate himself as Arsenal’s key goal threat. Investors in Fabregas meanwhile will be downbeat having watched Van Persie step up to their man’s spot-kick duties and claim the Arsenal skipper’s customary 3 Bonus Points.

The solution to such a problem is simple – buy in Van Persie and cover more bases. You can throw around talk of “eggs” and “one” basket, but on tonight’s evidence, Arsenal have the tools to exploit their forthcoming fixtures in devastating style and Van Persie looks the sharpest in the box.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Is Dorrans a good option? He has great fixtures - bla, WIG, mcy, WHM & WOL.
    I don't know if he is a consistent point scorer - are there any better options in the WBA team?

      Looking at WBA's fixtures you'd think he'd be a decent purchase but look closer and he's simply not scoring well enough.

      Very poor value, the only thing in his favour are WBA's next few games. Brunt and Odem are 2 much better options.

        Hughes->Skrtel
        Dorrans->Nzogbia

        You may need to downgrade a fwd to achieve this but given the vulnerability you get with Berba and RVP, that might not be such a bad thing. Varney or DJ have dgws coming up.

    What changes would you make to this team for GW24?

    Foster Krul
    Rafael Coleman Evatt Kolarov Konchesky
    Fabregas VDV Nani Adam Barton
    Drogba Tevez Welbeck

    Drogba out will be the 1st trade.
    Is it better to upgrade Barton to N'Zogbia or someone similar or Welbeck to a Blackpool striker?

          Well the move you mentioned, Barton to N'Zogbia is also similar to the hit I am taking.

          Drogba -> Rooney/Berb &
          Yaya -> N'Zogbia

          2 Doubles.

          Rafael, Nani + Rooney/Berb from MUN.
          N'Zogbia from WIG.
          Adam from BLP. (+Evatt/DJ)
          Konchesky/Johnson from LIV.

          7 DGWers is fine for GW24 imo leaving your WC for GW27 to load up on DGWers in a much more exciting DGW. Ie. Arsenal/Spurs etc.

      Man utd and Blackpool are the only two DGW teams worth investing in for my money, and I certainly wouldn't take a hit for anyone from the other four.

      I'll be going with Rafael, Nani, Rooney and Adam, which I think is plenty.

      As for the rest of your team I wouldn't take a hit to start tidying things up when you've got a wildcard coming up.

      And on that note I wouldn't wildcard because you're going to be well covered for the double with Drogba > Rooney. I'd hold on to it for now.

          Yeah, just thought about that. He's the only tempter isn't he?

          Still, he's got to go to Arsenal in the first game so I'm not sure he'd be worth it for a hit. Of course he could pop up with 10 points against Villa, but I s'pose that's the risk you take.

        4 I think is too few.

        I'm looking at 6 minimum, preferably 8.

        It all depends on the Merseyside derby for me. If Torres scores or does something to suggest he'll do well, he's in. GW 24 double and a home game against Stoke the week after looks too good to pass up.

        The alternative is of course Van Persie.

        Wigan and Everton at home is decent.

    Potential WC team for week 27

    Foster (Kingson)
    Djouru, Carr, Simpson (Rafael),(Toure)
    VDV, Cahill, Fabs, Nasri (Nani)
    Carrol, Odemwingie, Defoe (swap to Tevez in wk 28)

    That would leave me with 0 in the bank. Do you reckon my plan will be scuppered by price changes before I pull the trigger, or will falls for Carrol and Cahill match rises for Tevez et al? If it doesn't work out I plan to downgrade Toure. Hopefully Alex will be fit by then. Who else should I be looking at?

        Similar to the WC team I have been fiddling with.

        The exact players in defence is in the air a little (as in which Blackpool defender to go with and whether to pick a Fulham one). Will probably stick with Skrtel and Simpson, Rafael, Coleman and maybe a FUL or BKPL.

        For me I have Nasri and have seriously though of going to N'Zogbia due to his DGW. And I have Carroll who I am umming and ahhing over keeping. I am leaning towards transferring him out short-term since I only lose 0.2 out of it. Although the import is hard to decide upon!

        Now I look at it, I think unless I go with someone like DJ Campbell I might as well keep Carroll.

            Have had Fabregas for the most part, just after Van Persie's performance yesterday looks like he might turn into a must have so want to jump on the wagon early. Then it comes down to Nasri and Van Persie or Fab and Carroll/6.2mil striker.

                  Quite like that, but you're giving yourself a selection headache this week!

                  You've just given me an idea! Al-Habsi is actually a great choice to rotate with Foster until GW 27. Better than Begovic, and without his place being limited to only 3 appearances like Stockdale. Being stuck with Foster and Al-Habsi for the season is manageable I feel.

                  For once, I don't really have any advice. Dempsey is an unconventional but probably fruitful choice, the defense is good, you have the usual suspects in the front 8 but it's silly to be without:

                  Fabregas, Nani, Van Der Vaart, Adam, Tevez

                  Rooney and Van Persie are reliable FF players, and you always have the alternative of Berbatov if either don't look up to speed.

                  Great team.

              Last DGW was extremely easy to get a green arrow. I didn't prepare week & got one. Half the players in FPL may also be dead players & won't change their teams. The WC factor is one to think about making it a danger week also. Many teams might go for GW24 glory.

      I'm playing my wildcard and will probably have 7. But if you've 5 good ones then I think that's plenty.

      I'm trying to balance my team... having too many double GW players will probably weaken the team for future weeks. GW 26 for starters.

      I'm aiming on keeping Man City and Everton coverge for 26 and 28 onwards.

    Bent -> Rooney
    A.Cole -> Rafael
    Salcido -> Walker

    The third isn't glamourous but Salcido needs to go. I also have no Villa DGW cover. Means I will Have a defence of Rafael Evatt Walker. All DGW players. I am playing my wildcard GW27 so can get rid of Walker before Luke Young comes back. Also depends if he plays today or not.

      You sold Fabregas?!?! (Before they play Wigan at home!?!?!?)

      Your benching VDV!?!?!

      Ok on that last one, the rest are DGW players but still! Rodallega plays Arsenal away in the first fixture, which in hindsight, he won't get anything out of. So VDV is a better prospect Newcastle (A) IMO, others will say otherwise I know, just saying.

        It's not over yet. Birmingham CS gets you home. It will be close for you but think you might scrape in.

    How’s this sound:

    Cole Cleverley Drogba -> Hangeland Nzogbia Rooney (4 point hit)

    To give (DGW players in caps):

    KINGSON
    VIDIC SKRTEL HANGELAND
    NANI VdV Nasri ADAM NZOGBIA
    ROONEY TORRES

    Foster Simpson Bardsley Carroll

    No 'gas worries me tho!
