It is being reported that Sunderland striker Darren Bent is the subject of a bid from Aston Villa, believed to be around £18 million which could later rise to £24 million. It was also reported that the England international has handed in a transfer request and is keen to finalise a move away from the North East club – Sunderland have now confirmed the written request. Bent has been with the Black Cats for 18 months after joining from Tottenham and has scored 36 goals in 62 games.

The proposed move seems a bizarre one at first glance, with Sunderland performing above all expectations and sitting pretty in the Premier League in sixth. This will probably not change too much as far as Bent’s Fantasy potential is concerned; it could be argued that a switch to Villa, who are currently underachieving in 17th, is a move sideways rather than forward. But if the striker’s attitude towards life at the Stadium of Light is in question, perhaps new pastures will see him rediscover the kind of form which saw him fire 24 league goals last term and see him emerge as a major Fantasy consideration.

The move would certainly have an impact on Asamoah Gyan who, until somebody else is brought in, will surely play a more prominent role for Steve Bruce’s side. With guaranteed game time, Gyan, the scorer of Sunderland’s equaliser against Newcastle on Sunday, looks a more attractive option at 6.9m in the FPL and an ownership of 2.8%.

This news of Bent’s possible transfer is just breaking. We can only wait for further developments on what could be the most significant switch between two Premier League clubs in the January window.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

I would be tempted with Nasri as his output is limited due to Fab and VP. VDV is on pens and so is Tevez ?!

Agreed. It's true that Arsenal have loads of attacking outlets, but they score more goals to compensate for that. Nasri's turn will come again.

nicked from Tosey, who nicked it from Jamsiep, who nicked it from Opta

Since Aug 2005 Darren Bent has scored 81 Premier League goals, only Rooney & Drogba (both 82) have more in the same period.

Which means among other things, they’ve all been in the Premier league for over 5 years.

VdV has only been here for half a year, so he’s out of the equation. Ronaldo left 2 years ago, so he’s out. Etc etc etc.

Can someone talk me out of Wildcarding? My careful plan of building up for GW24, in view to wildcarding to set me up for GW27 is having a defensive crisis thanks to Rafael and Konchesky woes. My plan this week was Elmander to Rooney (and maybe Yaya to N'zog for 4 points), but have been getting knee-jerky looking at my defence 🙁

Anyone else goin for Dempsey over Nzogbia

    Dempsey: STK liv then NEW
    Nzogbia: ars AST then wba

Nzogbia is a bonus whore and has a nice game at home but a very tough away game against a team keeping cleanies of late, Dempsey has two games where u could defiantly see Fulhna scoring in, plays higher up the pitch, not adverse to baps and has a decent game the week after.

    Thoughts?

Don't get blinded by the DGW, it would be absolute madness to drop either Fabregas (at home to Wigan) or Tevez (pens/form/Villa), that being said, I am benching Nasri in order to play Nani/Adam/N'Zogbia/VDV/Torres/Rooney/DJ, so if you had to drop one it would be VDV, but it is hard because he is on pens and most set pieces and it is still Newcastle.

DJ on the other hand is almost gauranteed 4 points so, DJ seems "safer" option

Something's clearly wrong with him, and has been for a long time.

Drawing a comparison to Adebayor's situation at Arsenal seems pretty harsh (as Rooney is a vastly superior footballer), but there are loads of similarities between the two sagas. maybe United would be best off cashing in on him and re-investing in someone like Modric.

Football, like relationships, just go stale for no apparent reason sometimes. Like alot of things in life.

i just think its all gone stale for him and he needs to move on. Cashing in would be the best course of action for United, i could see him going in the summer. Van Nistelroddy is back on the market

Who've you got up front? I'm thinking of benching Carroll and playing Nani, Nasri, Adam, VDV and Dempsey.

£45 ain't bad. Mine managed to charge me about £150 iirc for a small filling on one of my molars.

      missing an appointment fee
      Scale and polish
      emergency fee
      filling

I swear they just make it up. They're really good, but jesus christ, imagine how pissed I could have got!

Probably going to do Krul –> VDS/Reina and Drogba to either Rooney or Torres for the dgw. Will be wildcarding after so I can spend as much as I want on the Gk and forward which is nice! Im tempted to go for rooney but If I get in VdS I would have too many Man U players and would be doubling up on defence. Thoughts?

Nah, he doesn't care. Think about it, he hates all that crap, he's just a normal bloke who wants to get on with doing a job he likes. He never has to work again.

And besides which, it's not like he's an actor. He's a comedian, producer and writer. He and Stephen Merchant made the office pretty much by themselves, and there's no reason he couldn't do it again and fund the whole thing.

And for our licence fee this week, we get this piece of maths brilliance from the Beeb...

He has contributed more than a third of Sunderland's 26 goals in the Premier League this season, with his total of eight helping the club to sixth.

I WAS going to bring in Rooney for Tevez but instead I might do this little doozy - Carroll out (much lamentation) RVP or Berbatov in! oh and Kolarov out Gohouri or another cheap DGW defender in (must cost 4.1 or below). That would make my side (DGW in caps)

    AL-HABSI

    CRAINEY, AN.OTHER, SKRTEL

    Nasri, VdV, ADAM, NANI

    BERBATOV/rvp , TORRES, Tevez

I guess it should be Berbatov (ho hum), will he play both though? And any ideas on a defender, Wigan perhaps not the best option seeing as I'll be playing Al-Habsi.

Berbatov should play both games, yes. The only competition is from Hernandez and Owen but they'll probably be played against Southampton next weekend.

I've gone for Pantsil as the defender, but if you have the money for Hangeland, even better.
