Steve Bruce failed to avenge his October St James’ Park thrashing, Man United kept up their unbeaten league season and Kenny Dalglish continued his win-less start to his second stint as Liverpool boss in a day where all four Premier League matches failed to produce a single victor…..

Nedum Onouha recovered from a hamstring injury to take his place in the Sunderland back four again, though Lee Cattermole and Danny Welbeck remain sidelined for the Black Cats. Steve Bruce’s side were poor throughout and only a late Asamoah Gyan goal prevented bitter rivals Newcastle from doing the double over them this season. Elmohamady was fielded in right midfield and picked up 2 Bonus Points, his first such award since game week 9.

With Andy Carroll still out injured, Alan Pardew welcomed back Shola Ameobi and the forward grabbed an assist for Kevin Nolan’s cheeky opener in the Tyne Wear derby. Proving they can perform without midfield warrior Cheik Tiote, Newcastle were perhaps unlucky to hold out for a win, though Nolan’s Fantasy Owners will no doubt be delighted with a 10 point return from the Toon skipper.

Alex McLeish showed his faith in David Bentley by giving the on-loan Spurs man a place in Birmingham’s starting XI for the visit of Aston Villa. An injury to Cameron Jerome saw Matt Derbyshire line up as the lone forward for McLeish’s side, as Nikola Zigic warmed the bench yet again. Seb Larsson, linked with an imminent move away from St Andrews, missed out through an ongoing groin and hip injury.

David Murphy came in at left-back and Liam Ridgewell moved to centre half as Big Eck confirmed Scott Dann will probably miss the rest of the season with a serious hamstring problem. Murphy grabbed the assist for Roger Johnson’s goal as the hosts took the lead through a scrappy free-kick. Johnson also picked up 2 FPL Bonus Points for his toils.

Ashley Young’s one-match suspension allowed John Carew a rare chance up front for Gerard Houllier’s side. Kyle Walker continued to impress at right-back, with plenty of surging runs and dangerous balls into the box delivered from the flank. His partnership with Marc Albrighton down the Villa right looks promising for Houllier. Having struck the bar three times in the first half, Villa also had a centre half to thank for their solitary goal, with James Collins (who also got the maximum 3 Bonus Points) firing home to deny to Birmingham a win, unsurprisingly following a cross from the right.

Martin Kelly has now started in all three games at right-back since Kenny Dalglish’s return to Anfield, with Glen Johnson filling in at left-back, despite the availabilty of Fabio Aurelio. Paul Konchesky didn’t even make the bench, suggesting his first-team opportunities are likely to be few and far between under the new regime. A stomach illness saw Daniel Agger taken off at half-time to be replaced by Sotirios Kyrgiakos in the Reds’ back four.

Steven Gerrard’s suspension meant Dirk Kuyt was on spot kick duties and the Dutchman obliged, with the vital equaliser in the 2-2 Merseyside derby draw. In addition to the penalty, Kuyt’s assist for Raul Meireles’ opener was enough to grab him the 3 Bonus Points, with Meireles being awarded 2. Fernando Torres looked lively up front, particularly in the first half, a factor that will please his Fantasy Owners ahead of the upcoming double game week. His six goal attempts were equalled only by Hugo Rodallega and James Morrison all weekend.

An impressive performance in the heart of the Everton defence saw Sylvian Distin also grab the equaliser for David Moyes’ side as they fought back superbly after a poor first half showing. Jermaine Beckford grabbed only his third goal of the season to put the visitors ahead but Moyes was denied a famous win as Tim Howard conceded a penalty for Liverpool to make it 2-2. Howard had a great game overall, though, making nine saves to repel the Liverpool attack time and again.

Having suffered defensively for the majority of the season, Spurs chalked up their third consecutive clean sheet at White Hart Lane. There’s no coincidence that this is down to the return from injury of Michael Dawson, as Harry Redknapp’s side have conceded one in four home games since his comeback. Redknapp chose to field Peter Crouch as a lone striker for the visit of Man United, throwing Jermain Defoe on when United were reduced to ten men after Rafael’s red card. Luka Modric once again picked up the three Bonus Points and had been awarded 14 (3 X 4, 2 X 1) in Spurs last five home games.

Nemanja Vidic was a rock at the back for United, as their unbeaten run was extended to 21 games. United rarely threatened going forward, with Nani being withdrawn just after the hour mark following an anonymous performance at right wing. Rafael’s two yellow cards mean he will now miss the first of United’s matches in the upcoming double game week, at home to Birmingham. United are unable to appeal a red card for two yellow card offences under FA rules. There’s also reports suggesting that the FA will look into Rafael’s actions as he left the pitch following the dismissal with possible discplinary action taken. Other articles this morning state that the FA will overlook this if the events are not included in referee Mike Dean’s report.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I'd lose about 0.2 getting him back in on current prices. Already have Torres.. don't really want to go into the DGW with only one United player, think I'll take a punt on Rooney. One of my main rivals has already told me he's taking a hit to get Torres and Rooney so that will play right into my hands.

gwk 26 is perfect time to wildcard imo

liverpool and a few other teams fixtures get worse from that week, everton and a few others start nice runs, also u get 2 free transfers after the double in gwk27

I think gw 24 is the perfect week to wildcard. You get the longest time possible (10days and it finishes on 1st feb at 7.30 so you will know quite a few team lineups before the deadline of gw25)

I agree and was plannin on the same but I'm gonna throw this out their, GW 25?!

Reason being is their are quite a few of the DGW teams with nice fixtures in 25 too, ie Arsenal have Everton at home, WBA have Wigan at home etc. Doing this will let u have the 1 frees after 27 as u say but it also gives u another transfer before than incase a DGW player gets injured, like so:

        GW25: WC
        GW26: no transfer
GW27: 2 frees (use 1 if need be)
        GW28: 2 frees

U could use one transfer in 26 if u need / want.

This is just my opnion because im a bit worried about goin another week without Fabs or RVP plus my team needs some serious surgery.

guess it also depends on your team and who u want to keep

ill have rooney and nani who i dont want after wildcard but i want for villa at home

also liverpool have stoke at home gwk25 and ill have 2 or 3 of their players

same with fulham home to newcastle

i dont think this week is a good time to wildcard so we're def thinking along similar lines

    Gordon
    VIDIC CRAINEY Coleman
    NANI ADAM N'ZOGBIA Nasri VanDerVaart
    TORRES Tevez
    Subs: Carroll, Jara, Kolarov

So 6 DGW players. With the 5 non-DGW players having great fixtures, is there any reason to get in a seventh player for the dgw...if so, who and who should I sell?

I think there is less than 10% chance that Rafael is suspended for another game. The card was harsh in the first place and there will only be more action taken if Dean reports it, which he won't because he know it was harsh from the beginning.

Hey BBA! Yeah I had a big gameweek, which feels fantastic. Was helped out by some of my players that are not that popular (Vidic, Rodallega, Ethers) and climbed nicely.

The early transfer was of course a disaster. I'm usually one of the most conservative players on here I think but I wanted to spice up my life a little so did Konchesky to Rafael on Saturday night before Konchesky fell. Never agian.

I think you'll come good, but you'll have to start climbing soon to reach the dizzy heights you've finished on the last three years. What transfer did you make? Konch too?

I've forgotten what that fantastic feeling is like!

I’m usually the conservative type too, but I’m haemorrhaging money in my back line at present. Normally I’d take this on the chin but with the WC imminent, money is paramount so got rid of Konch too. I went for Coleman (like yourself, ballsy because he had a game on the Sunday and could have gotten injured or, err, sent off!) but if it went wrong I would have jumped on the WC after seeing it as a sign! I was looking at Rafael too, but not until the WC now (26/27 time). Can afford to lose .1 on Dann, but Salcido not playing isn’t great. I will probably do Cashley to Vidic before the latter rises too.

Four seasons actually 😉 but I’m going to have to pull something out of the bag quickly! It can be done, thats what I’m telling myself. Wait, can you see that flying pig?! 🙂 Ha

This double gameweek will obviously be crucial, but its 27 is where the big rises and falls will occur in my opinion. And dualling that with having a good side for the remainder of the season if you have used your other WC already.

repost, didnt get much response....i have a dilemma. Plan on using WC GW27. Thought it wise to load a team for the doubles and triple. Im wondering if its worth the potential one week haul to alter a team that will take weeks to put back to “normal”. Such as having a birm keeper and defender.

I have a WC that could look like this, i know there are cheaper options in defence but for sake of arguement:

    Foster (3 games)
Begovic (good couple fixtures following weeks)

    Baines (2), r Johnson (3), clichy (2), Coleman (2), simpson (2)

    Fabregas(2), Adam(2), Brunt(2), vdv(2), nani(keeper with 2 next gw)

    RVP (2), odemwingie/defoe (2), Carroll(2)

6.5/3.1 in bank depending on odem-defoe selection
i know i cant play all of them but i already have coleman, simspon, vdv, brunt, adam, fabs and carroll. the extra money can buy a chelsea player for first transfer following week for their double.

is this a good use of WC or am i mad?

I'd be wary of going over the top with double GW players, like you acknowledge you can only play so many and need a team that won't be imbalanced in the following weeks. Have you looked into what these teams' fixtures are like in the next 5 or so weeks?

whats crazy is i already have 8 of these players now, but the only guy whos a pure matchup play is clichy, everyone else is a legit fantasy candidate. Was hoping to go brunt--malouda, clichy-rafael as transfers later.

You're only problem I can see is its filled with players that hav DGW who are you going to drop that week when you can't play them all?

it looks good. clichy>ivanovic would be my move gwk 28.

only thing to consider now is you don't need 13 dgw players so if there's 2 players with better fixtures till the end of the season i'd get them

Looks decent enough. I'd go Odem over Defoe (more assured of minutes).

Baines and Colemand might be overkill. And i'd go Walker over Simpson too, possibly Walcott or Nasri over Brunt if you do go for Odem.

Doubling up on brum defence isn't such a bad option anyway, they keep a fair few cleanies.

    The Sky game is junk.

How can Tevez have scored the same as RVP when RVP had an extra assist? It makes no sense.

Thinking about doing Nasri > Adam; I know Nasri has Wigan but Adam has two home game and I'm wildcarding in a few weeks so can always work Nasri back in if I want to. So basically, Nasri or Adam fror GW24?

nasri could be done now, might be worth the risk for the funds it'll free up. i have nasri on the bench for if fab doesn't play lol which seems a great unplanned strategy now! 🙂

yeh dont really fancy nasri think hes going to start getting rotated with arshavin walcott and rosicky. would rather have fabregas. basically this team will be for 2 weeks and will then be putting carroll in and downgrading vidic to a cheaper man u defender.

N'Zog is the only one worth thinking about out of those imo.

Stay away from players like Fletcher at all costs.

Hughes..because i think its a risk having fulham defense anyway so you dont want to spend too much(hangeland) but you want some consistency. And i would just prefer hughes over Baird (personal pref)

After spending most of the season thoroughly underwhelmed by the big-budget strikers, there are now several that I want.. Torres, Tevez, Rooney, Berbatov, RVP.. budget only allows for two of them. Which do people see as the priorities from this week forward?

How many DGW players are you playing this week?
I've only got 4: N'Zogbia,Adam,Nani & Hangeland and i'm thinking of getting in dempsey. Question is who do i take out for him just for the DGW: Fab or VDV?

      Neither. Fulham are waste.

4 is fine, the double's this week aren't even that great. If you really need to do anything then get in a united defender.

Week 27 is the one where you need double players

I can't comprehend why people are even considering taking out Tevez for players like Torres that scored an impressive 1 point this week when they were supposedly back on top of their game.

It was only two weeks ago that everyone saw DGWs can often flatter to deceive.
