Steve Bruce failed to avenge his October St James’ Park thrashing, Man United kept up their unbeaten league season and Kenny Dalglish continued his win-less start to his second stint as Liverpool boss in a day where all four Premier League matches failed to produce a single victor…..

Nedum Onouha recovered from a hamstring injury to take his place in the Sunderland back four again, though Lee Cattermole and Danny Welbeck remain sidelined for the Black Cats. Steve Bruce’s side were poor throughout and only a late Asamoah Gyan goal prevented bitter rivals Newcastle from doing the double over them this season. Elmohamady was fielded in right midfield and picked up 2 Bonus Points, his first such award since game week 9.

With Andy Carroll still out injured, Alan Pardew welcomed back Shola Ameobi and the forward grabbed an assist for Kevin Nolan’s cheeky opener in the Tyne Wear derby. Proving they can perform without midfield warrior Cheik Tiote, Newcastle were perhaps unlucky to hold out for a win, though Nolan’s Fantasy Owners will no doubt be delighted with a 10 point return from the Toon skipper.

Alex McLeish showed his faith in David Bentley by giving the on-loan Spurs man a place in Birmingham’s starting XI for the visit of Aston Villa. An injury to Cameron Jerome saw Matt Derbyshire line up as the lone forward for McLeish’s side, as Nikola Zigic warmed the bench yet again. Seb Larsson, linked with an imminent move away from St Andrews, missed out through an ongoing groin and hip injury.

David Murphy came in at left-back and Liam Ridgewell moved to centre half as Big Eck confirmed Scott Dann will probably miss the rest of the season with a serious hamstring problem. Murphy grabbed the assist for Roger Johnson’s goal as the hosts took the lead through a scrappy free-kick. Johnson also picked up 2 FPL Bonus Points for his toils.

Ashley Young’s one-match suspension allowed John Carew a rare chance up front for Gerard Houllier’s side. Kyle Walker continued to impress at right-back, with plenty of surging runs and dangerous balls into the box delivered from the flank. His partnership with Marc Albrighton down the Villa right looks promising for Houllier. Having struck the bar three times in the first half, Villa also had a centre half to thank for their solitary goal, with James Collins (who also got the maximum 3 Bonus Points) firing home to deny to Birmingham a win, unsurprisingly following a cross from the right.

Martin Kelly has now started in all three games at right-back since Kenny Dalglish’s return to Anfield, with Glen Johnson filling in at left-back, despite the availabilty of Fabio Aurelio. Paul Konchesky didn’t even make the bench, suggesting his first-team opportunities are likely to be few and far between under the new regime. A stomach illness saw Daniel Agger taken off at half-time to be replaced by Sotirios Kyrgiakos in the Reds’ back four.

Steven Gerrard’s suspension meant Dirk Kuyt was on spot kick duties and the Dutchman obliged, with the vital equaliser in the 2-2 Merseyside derby draw. In addition to the penalty, Kuyt’s assist for Raul Meireles’ opener was enough to grab him the 3 Bonus Points, with Meireles being awarded 2. Fernando Torres looked lively up front, particularly in the first half, a factor that will please his Fantasy Owners ahead of the upcoming double game week. His six goal attempts were equalled only by Hugo Rodallega and James Morrison all weekend.

An impressive performance in the heart of the Everton defence saw Sylvian Distin also grab the equaliser for David Moyes’ side as they fought back superbly after a poor first half showing. Jermaine Beckford grabbed only his third goal of the season to put the visitors ahead but Moyes was denied a famous win as Tim Howard conceded a penalty for Liverpool to make it 2-2. Howard had a great game overall, though, making nine saves to repel the Liverpool attack time and again.

Having suffered defensively for the majority of the season, Spurs chalked up their third consecutive clean sheet at White Hart Lane. There’s no coincidence that this is down to the return from injury of Michael Dawson, as Harry Redknapp’s side have conceded one in four home games since his comeback. Redknapp chose to field Peter Crouch as a lone striker for the visit of Man United, throwing Jermain Defoe on when United were reduced to ten men after Rafael’s red card. Luka Modric once again picked up the three Bonus Points and had been awarded 14 (3 X 4, 2 X 1) in Spurs last five home games.

Nemanja Vidic was a rock at the back for United, as their unbeaten run was extended to 21 games. United rarely threatened going forward, with Nani being withdrawn just after the hour mark following an anonymous performance at right wing. Rafael’s two yellow cards mean he will now miss the first of United’s matches in the upcoming double game week, at home to Birmingham. United are unable to appeal a red card for two yellow card offences under FA rules. There’s also reports suggesting that the FA will look into Rafael’s actions as he left the pitch following the dismissal with possible discplinary action taken. Other articles this morning state that the FA will overlook this if the events are not included in referee Mike Dean’s report.

Has to be a) for me, Carroll has proven his constancy, Oden seems to have injury issues and Brunt at times can be an assist machine whereas Nolan only seems to score well when he scores, not sure he's had that many assists?

Two Fantasy stalwarts were taken off after 60 mins:

    Nani

What's the word on these two?
I hear Nani was playing poorly. Not what I want to hear when I have him nailed on for the next double GW.

Nani will play. Giggs is tired (I can see him being replaced with either Rooney or Obertan) and with Park in Asia, that leaves SAF with either an out of position sentral midfielder or playing Nani; so Nani will play.

I'd have to agree that you need to re-think. Obviously it depends on your budget but pick players that will play and usually do well ie. get some bargain buys in. Maybe start with 3 4.5m-5.5m defenders and 2 real cheapies (Murphy 3.9m and Simpson 3.9m).

Fab and Rooney both very pricey if your budget is low so maybe just have Walcott (if he remains a consistent starter) or Nasri. Berba instead of Rooney and these swaps will allow a better balance to your team.

My team is linked if this a 'who's a better rank' thing.

According to reports in Spanish daily Marca, Real Madrid have had 'informal contact' with Manchester City regarding a loan deal for striker Carlos Tevez. The reports also claim that City would want the deal to be made permanent in the summer for a fee in the region of £33million if they were to accept the loan offer.

Probably going to do Krul --> VDS/Reina and Drogba to either Rooney or Torres for the dgw. Will be wildcarding after so I can spend as much as I want on the Gk and forward which is nice! Im tempted to go for rooney but If I get in VdS I would have too many Man U players and would be doubling up on defence. Thoughts?

    Team for GW24 -

    Foster Begovic

    Coleman Rafael Kolarov Clichy Konchesky

    VDV Nani Adam Tchoyi Zogbia

    Torres Tevez DJCampbell

2 free transfers and 2.0 in the bank. Thinking Tchoyi -> Dempsey and Konchesky -> Hughes/Kelly. But then that would give me a dilemma about who to bench from my midfield & strikeforce. Leave out a DGW player or VDV/Tevez. I'm sure a lot of us will face the same issue. Opinions?

+1 I've had quite an expensive defence for a while and it hasn't worked out (apart from this week on which it saved me an embarrassment) I had a much better start to the season when I had Cole plus 4 cheapies. IMO I'd always like one defender I'd play every game then pick 2 from 4.

i think it wise, especially when using a wildcard for a squad overhaul, to have one stud defender to play every week, and 4 cheapies. I bought coleman and bardsley for 4.4 and 4.5 and simpson at 3.9, 3 useable defenders for an average cost of under 4.3

What keepers are everyone picking for their wildcards?

I have had Foster from the start, and with an eye on his price and the potential TGW27, I am most definitely keeping him.

I had stockdale to partner him, wanting to be able to bench Foster away to United and have a cheap DGW keeper to play. However, the final of the Asian Cup in 29th jan, and Fulham's fixture for GW25 is Feb 2nd - Four days after the last Schwarzer could possibly be coming home. With that in mind, Stockdale isn't really an option anymore imo. After him, I've no idea who to partner Foster with...

Around his value, I'm only seeing Al-Habsi, Begovic, Kingson..? Not much value.

      My side at the mo

      Foster (Jussi)
      Kolarov, Rafael, Bardsley (Carr, Foley)
      Nani, Nasri, VDV, Adam, Barton
      Drogba, Tevez (Carroll)

      1.6 spare + 2 free transfers

Looking at Kolarov > Hughes leaving me 2.5..then I wanting Drogs out. Looking at Rooney, Berbs or RSVP.. Berbs doesn't seem to play the full 90 mins often which is annoying. RVP is injury prone-ish and Rooney is a sometimes hit and miss!
Any thoughts fellas?? Then next week i'll look at moving Barton

begovic has been pretty good value, i plan on foster/begovic for my WC only because after the birm triple, they go to the bridge while stoke hosts WBA. all the other cheap keepers have lesser favourable fixtures and i dont want to WC hating my keeper options the very next week.

How about Gordon? His fixtures rotate ok with Foster. I'm going with him rather than Begovic and keeping Huth in defence. I guess if you have a SUN def then Begovic is the one to go for.

Stockdale I reckon is fine for his DGW and just play Foster against City.

In my opinion yes but rooney is a very unpopular guy round these parts. I think its because at his price people are stupidly expecting a hattrick every game. Hes actually scored very well for the amount of minutes hes played this season.

It's a tough one and you would think Man u would be the most likely to keep a clean sheet but then Sunderland have kept 5 cleans sheets in their last 10! I would bench Rafael. At least you know Bardsley should start Fergie might punish rafael thinking about it

good point actually. Rafael would be re-gaining his place and that always adds an extra question mark.

Hey guys, am unsure whether to Wildcard this GW?

    Current team:

    Foster/Robinson
    Skrtel/Kolarov/Bardsley/Coleman/Foley
    Nani/VdV/Nasri/Adam/Kuyt
    Tevez/Torres/Elmander

Alot of deadweight I know, and should up my Arsenal contingent but should i wait a week or two/three before playing WC.

    Any opinions?
