Steve Bruce failed to avenge his October St James’ Park thrashing, Man United kept up their unbeaten league season and Kenny Dalglish continued his win-less start to his second stint as Liverpool boss in a day where all four Premier League matches failed to produce a single victor…..

Nedum Onouha recovered from a hamstring injury to take his place in the Sunderland back four again, though Lee Cattermole and Danny Welbeck remain sidelined for the Black Cats. Steve Bruce’s side were poor throughout and only a late Asamoah Gyan goal prevented bitter rivals Newcastle from doing the double over them this season. Elmohamady was fielded in right midfield and picked up 2 Bonus Points, his first such award since game week 9.

With Andy Carroll still out injured, Alan Pardew welcomed back Shola Ameobi and the forward grabbed an assist for Kevin Nolan’s cheeky opener in the Tyne Wear derby. Proving they can perform without midfield warrior Cheik Tiote, Newcastle were perhaps unlucky to hold out for a win, though Nolan’s Fantasy Owners will no doubt be delighted with a 10 point return from the Toon skipper.

Alex McLeish showed his faith in David Bentley by giving the on-loan Spurs man a place in Birmingham’s starting XI for the visit of Aston Villa. An injury to Cameron Jerome saw Matt Derbyshire line up as the lone forward for McLeish’s side, as Nikola Zigic warmed the bench yet again. Seb Larsson, linked with an imminent move away from St Andrews, missed out through an ongoing groin and hip injury.

David Murphy came in at left-back and Liam Ridgewell moved to centre half as Big Eck confirmed Scott Dann will probably miss the rest of the season with a serious hamstring problem. Murphy grabbed the assist for Roger Johnson’s goal as the hosts took the lead through a scrappy free-kick. Johnson also picked up 2 FPL Bonus Points for his toils.

Ashley Young’s one-match suspension allowed John Carew a rare chance up front for Gerard Houllier’s side. Kyle Walker continued to impress at right-back, with plenty of surging runs and dangerous balls into the box delivered from the flank. His partnership with Marc Albrighton down the Villa right looks promising for Houllier. Having struck the bar three times in the first half, Villa also had a centre half to thank for their solitary goal, with James Collins (who also got the maximum 3 Bonus Points) firing home to deny to Birmingham a win, unsurprisingly following a cross from the right.

Martin Kelly has now started in all three games at right-back since Kenny Dalglish’s return to Anfield, with Glen Johnson filling in at left-back, despite the availabilty of Fabio Aurelio. Paul Konchesky didn’t even make the bench, suggesting his first-team opportunities are likely to be few and far between under the new regime. A stomach illness saw Daniel Agger taken off at half-time to be replaced by Sotirios Kyrgiakos in the Reds’ back four.

Steven Gerrard’s suspension meant Dirk Kuyt was on spot kick duties and the Dutchman obliged, with the vital equaliser in the 2-2 Merseyside derby draw. In addition to the penalty, Kuyt’s assist for Raul Meireles’ opener was enough to grab him the 3 Bonus Points, with Meireles being awarded 2. Fernando Torres looked lively up front, particularly in the first half, a factor that will please his Fantasy Owners ahead of the upcoming double game week. His six goal attempts were equalled only by Hugo Rodallega and James Morrison all weekend.

An impressive performance in the heart of the Everton defence saw Sylvian Distin also grab the equaliser for David Moyes’ side as they fought back superbly after a poor first half showing. Jermaine Beckford grabbed only his third goal of the season to put the visitors ahead but Moyes was denied a famous win as Tim Howard conceded a penalty for Liverpool to make it 2-2. Howard had a great game overall, though, making nine saves to repel the Liverpool attack time and again.

Having suffered defensively for the majority of the season, Spurs chalked up their third consecutive clean sheet at White Hart Lane. There’s no coincidence that this is down to the return from injury of Michael Dawson, as Harry Redknapp’s side have conceded one in four home games since his comeback. Redknapp chose to field Peter Crouch as a lone striker for the visit of Man United, throwing Jermain Defoe on when United were reduced to ten men after Rafael’s red card. Luka Modric once again picked up the three Bonus Points and had been awarded 14 (3 X 4, 2 X 1) in Spurs last five home games.

Nemanja Vidic was a rock at the back for United, as their unbeaten run was extended to 21 games. United rarely threatened going forward, with Nani being withdrawn just after the hour mark following an anonymous performance at right wing. Rafael’s two yellow cards mean he will now miss the first of United’s matches in the upcoming double game week, at home to Birmingham. United are unable to appeal a red card for two yellow card offences under FA rules. There’s also reports suggesting that the FA will look into Rafael’s actions as he left the pitch following the dismissal with possible discplinary action taken. Other articles this morning state that the FA will overlook this if the events are not included in referee Mike Dean’s report.

Is it crucial to have Fabregas or Nasri if I have RVP? I could keep Nasri, or swap for Fabs and have Odemwingie instead of RVP.

    Hart Kingson
    Rafael Kelly Coleman Hangeland Simpson
    Nani Adam VDV Nolan Dempsey

Van Persie is on penalties and is always in the mix for free kicks, so at the top of his game he's arguably more essential than Fabregas. It's the main reason I captained him over Cesc against West Ham.

Nasri is competing with Walcott, Arshavin and possibly Rosicky, although you could easily say Fabregas can be rested for Nasri or Rosicky ahead of a Champions League game. It's a tricky one to call. 11.8m is expensive for a midfielder not on penalties so I can understand teams that just go with Van Persie and Walcott/Nasri.

I think the problem with having RVP as your arsenal big man backed up by nasri/walcott is youre more than likely going tohave to shuffle your pack again to get fabs in when RVP inevitably gets injured.

That's true. Hopefully both will figure up to GW28, then I can consider downgrading one of them if 20 mil for 2 Arsenal players isn't bringing home enough points.

I disagree though Tevez' away record is good this season, he plays a villa at the weekend who are improving slightly but i tihnk Tevez will be a big threat against them. Rooney on the other hand still needs to find his form and has scored twice all season.

I think so. Birmingham have such a good run of fixtures it's pretty much uneccesary to have a decent back up to Foster, especially one as good/expensive as Hart. I think the money would be better spent elsewhere.

I'm considering that too, but City have a good chance of cleanies in GWs 28 and 29, so I might keep him in and use a free transfer further down the line.

I might even ignore my common sense and gamble on a double-GWer like Al-Habsi or Reina this week, then bring in Hart with the WC.

Wildcard team. Decided to go for the cheap defence seeing as my expensive defenders have been useless recently and it seems I have an allergy to clean sheets anyway..

    Foster, Begovic
    Coleman, Pantsil, Djourou, Murphy, Kelly
    Fabregas, VdV, Nani, N'Zog, Adam
    Torres, Tevez, Odemwingie

Have 3.1 in the bank with that team? Really don't know where to spend the extra money..

I'll definitely want him for the double. RvP & Carroll look good up for that week, probably won't be able to fit in Odemwingie cos of Tevez but would have to get Brunt or Dorrans as Albion coverage.

For what it's worth, I'm going with Rooney, Tevez, Carroll up front.

Rooney is in for the DGW only, he becomes RVP next week or the week after, with an eye on GW27. Tevez is essential imo - consistently scoring very high points, playing in a team 1 point off the top, and the only real man city attacking coverage you can get. Carroll's injury is frustrating, but you will want him DGW27, for sure, and the for the run all the way to the season's end. He's been the buy of the year (after VdV) for me imo.

I'm gonna have Brunt as my Albion coverage for GW27, too.
              Cesc, Nani, VdV, Brunt, Barton
              RVP, Tevez, Carroll.

Fair enough, at the moment my strikers are Torres, Tevez & DJ Campbell. Can't drop Torres as I've had him for ages so would be foolish to get rid now. Was thinking of just taking Tevez out for Rooney and then basically getting him back in asap.

Don't want DJ Campbell anymore, would bench him in favour of VdV this week anyway and obviously would rather Carroll/Odemwingie.

Would you be benching Carroll this week anyway even if he does play?

No doubt this has been discussed to death already, but....

Drogba > Berba(rotation risk) / Rooney(zero form) / Torres(slight hint of form but crap team) / RVP(great fixture + save a bit of cash for the WC by getting him early)?

Was planning Rooney to give me 5 DGW'ers (damn you Raf!) but really tempted by RVP...

Pity I can't get both - I have too much invested in Tevez & Carroll

i think its like poker. Always better to act last. Let those who use their WC sooner get their gain of points. (trust me i know, my rival WCed this past week and brought in RVP, Walcott, Huth and Shawcross to name a few, the basterd) But waiting gives you information. Im also wondering if the majority of owners WC GW27, there may be a ton of double price rises for the likes of Birm, Arsenal, etc.

naturally if your team is rife with question marks injuries et al, whip out the WC ASAP. And i played my first WC around GW5 or 6. But with this "limited time only" card, that you know everyone is going to use in a small window of time, again as long as your squad isnt completely phucked, i think it best to wait.

Remember if you WC for 27 you will only have one freebie for 28 where potentially 4 of your players could have no game if ARS v TOT is rearranged.

WC for 26 at the latest - even if ARS v TOT goes ahead you will want 2 freebies for the CHE & MUN DGW in 28

(CAPS LOCK players are my possible starting XI for this week)

foster, ROBINSON (was thinking hart for Robinson but neither foster or hart have good fixtures this gameweek)
VIDIC, COLEMAN, johnson r, HANGELAND, huth
    VDV, NZOG, ADAM, DEMPSEY, NANI
    VAN PERSIE, odemwingie, ROONEY

Been mixing around alot not sure if i should stay with rooney or get torres or possibly anyone else?

    Probably Hughes..

my side/comments missed over the page..

    My side at the mo

    Foster (Jussi)
    Kolarov, Rafael, Bardsley (Carr, Foley)
    Nani, Nasri, VDV, Adam, Barton
    Drogba, Tevez (Carroll)

    1.6 spare + 2 free transfers

Looking at Kolarov > Hughes leaving me 2.5..then I wanting Drogs out. Looking at Rooney, Berbs or RSVP.. Berbs doesn’t seem to play the full 90 mins often which is annoying. RVP is injury prone-ish and Rooney is a sometimes hit and miss!
Any thoughts fellas?? Then next week i’ll look at moving Barton

VDV, Fabs, Nani (c), Adam, N'Zog
    Tevez, Rooney
    Subs: Hart, Carrol, Djourou, Rafael.

Not making any transfers, subs in the right order?

Been on the Liverpool forums and they seem to rate Kelly very highly, saying he was ready for first team football last season. Some were bigging him up to become one of the worlds best right backs.

I don't think Kenny is going to drop him anytime soon then! 🙂

Sounds like Adam "two crosses, and two dribbles" Johnson's hype.

Kelly is unproven, and needs time to develop and improve. Why is he already being touted as potentially one of the world's best right backs...There are a lot of RBs in the world..

    Drogba Tevez Elmander

I have 2 free transfers this week and was thinking Drogba->Berbatov and Elmander->RVP, but then I don`t have a ManU defender for DGW, and have to bench one of the midfielders, probably VdV...

Already wildcarded in GW23 and am lined up for GW24 as follows:

    Stockdale (Hart)
Alcaraz Djourou Givet (R Johnson) (Huth)
    Fabregas Nani VdV Adam S.Davies
    Tevez Rooney (DJ)

    Two questions:
    1) Worth bringing in Kelly for Givet for free or hold back to have 2 frees for GW25 ?

    2) Who to play out of Simon Davies or DJ ?

It's a toughie, that's for sure.. VDV is the better FPL player, but Nasri has the better fixture.

Hopefully Wenger makes it easy for us by playing Nasri at Leeds, and then the risk of him starting on the bench would mean that VDV is the obvious choice.

    Reina

    Hangeland, Evra, Coleman

    Dempsey, Nani(c), Nasri, Adam

    Campbell, Torres, Berbatov

    (VDV, Skrtel, Kolarov)

How does that look for GW24?

I'm toying with potentially dropping Campbell for either VDV or Skrtel, Adam will no doubt pick up his BPs as usual and could potentially grab an assist etc. Campbell just could not hit the target last GW though and is playing tough defences this week. However VDV is also playing against a fairly tough defence this week...

Bit worried at starting Coleman over Skrtel but having doubled up on liverpool defence last DGW and starting Skrtel last GW it seems that although his place is nailed on, a chance of a liverpool cleanie most certainly is not.
