Steve Bruce failed to avenge his October St James’ Park thrashing, Man United kept up their unbeaten league season and Kenny Dalglish continued his win-less start to his second stint as Liverpool boss in a day where all four Premier League matches failed to produce a single victor…..

Nedum Onouha recovered from a hamstring injury to take his place in the Sunderland back four again, though Lee Cattermole and Danny Welbeck remain sidelined for the Black Cats. Steve Bruce’s side were poor throughout and only a late Asamoah Gyan goal prevented bitter rivals Newcastle from doing the double over them this season. Elmohamady was fielded in right midfield and picked up 2 Bonus Points, his first such award since game week 9.

With Andy Carroll still out injured, Alan Pardew welcomed back Shola Ameobi and the forward grabbed an assist for Kevin Nolan’s cheeky opener in the Tyne Wear derby. Proving they can perform without midfield warrior Cheik Tiote, Newcastle were perhaps unlucky to hold out for a win, though Nolan’s Fantasy Owners will no doubt be delighted with a 10 point return from the Toon skipper.

Alex McLeish showed his faith in David Bentley by giving the on-loan Spurs man a place in Birmingham’s starting XI for the visit of Aston Villa. An injury to Cameron Jerome saw Matt Derbyshire line up as the lone forward for McLeish’s side, as Nikola Zigic warmed the bench yet again. Seb Larsson, linked with an imminent move away from St Andrews, missed out through an ongoing groin and hip injury.

David Murphy came in at left-back and Liam Ridgewell moved to centre half as Big Eck confirmed Scott Dann will probably miss the rest of the season with a serious hamstring problem. Murphy grabbed the assist for Roger Johnson’s goal as the hosts took the lead through a scrappy free-kick. Johnson also picked up 2 FPL Bonus Points for his toils.

Ashley Young’s one-match suspension allowed John Carew a rare chance up front for Gerard Houllier’s side. Kyle Walker continued to impress at right-back, with plenty of surging runs and dangerous balls into the box delivered from the flank. His partnership with Marc Albrighton down the Villa right looks promising for Houllier. Having struck the bar three times in the first half, Villa also had a centre half to thank for their solitary goal, with James Collins (who also got the maximum 3 Bonus Points) firing home to deny to Birmingham a win, unsurprisingly following a cross from the right.

Martin Kelly has now started in all three games at right-back since Kenny Dalglish’s return to Anfield, with Glen Johnson filling in at left-back, despite the availabilty of Fabio Aurelio. Paul Konchesky didn’t even make the bench, suggesting his first-team opportunities are likely to be few and far between under the new regime. A stomach illness saw Daniel Agger taken off at half-time to be replaced by Sotirios Kyrgiakos in the Reds’ back four.

Steven Gerrard’s suspension meant Dirk Kuyt was on spot kick duties and the Dutchman obliged, with the vital equaliser in the 2-2 Merseyside derby draw. In addition to the penalty, Kuyt’s assist for Raul Meireles’ opener was enough to grab him the 3 Bonus Points, with Meireles being awarded 2. Fernando Torres looked lively up front, particularly in the first half, a factor that will please his Fantasy Owners ahead of the upcoming double game week. His six goal attempts were equalled only by Hugo Rodallega and James Morrison all weekend.

An impressive performance in the heart of the Everton defence saw Sylvian Distin also grab the equaliser for David Moyes’ side as they fought back superbly after a poor first half showing. Jermaine Beckford grabbed only his third goal of the season to put the visitors ahead but Moyes was denied a famous win as Tim Howard conceded a penalty for Liverpool to make it 2-2. Howard had a great game overall, though, making nine saves to repel the Liverpool attack time and again.

Having suffered defensively for the majority of the season, Spurs chalked up their third consecutive clean sheet at White Hart Lane. There’s no coincidence that this is down to the return from injury of Michael Dawson, as Harry Redknapp’s side have conceded one in four home games since his comeback. Redknapp chose to field Peter Crouch as a lone striker for the visit of Man United, throwing Jermain Defoe on when United were reduced to ten men after Rafael’s red card. Luka Modric once again picked up the three Bonus Points and had been awarded 14 (3 X 4, 2 X 1) in Spurs last five home games.

Nemanja Vidic was a rock at the back for United, as their unbeaten run was extended to 21 games. United rarely threatened going forward, with Nani being withdrawn just after the hour mark following an anonymous performance at right wing. Rafael’s two yellow cards mean he will now miss the first of United’s matches in the upcoming double game week, at home to Birmingham. United are unable to appeal a red card for two yellow card offences under FA rules. There’s also reports suggesting that the FA will look into Rafael’s actions as he left the pitch following the dismissal with possible discplinary action taken. Other articles this morning state that the FA will overlook this if the events are not included in referee Mike Dean’s report.

anybody else looking ahead to gwk25 as its midweek fixtures we'll know the teams and thinking about punts on a hernandez or walcott for that one week if they are named as starters and then wildcarding after?

      I wasn't, but now you've mentioned it....

I may even play my wildcard in week 27. I'll have a decent team for week 26 without wildcarding, and most of the teams with doubles in 27 have shit fixtures the week before. So I'd probably end up with a worse team for week 26 if I wildcarded!!

          Meh.
Anyone can have the ball bounce of their shin and roll into an unguarded goal from 2 feet. Alan Shearer NOW there was a striker!
          But seriously
          Carrick £18m, Johnson £18m, Bent £18m, Joe Cole £free
VdV £8m. This crazy extra commission for English players is ridiculous.

My team as it currently stands is:

    Hart Fabianski
    Coleman Hughes Samba RJohnson Elmohamady
    Bale VDV Nasri Fabregas Nolan
    Tevez Carroll Elmander

    Fabregas is my captain.
So I have no DGW players. I'd like to get one or two.

Who would you drop? and who would you replace them with?

I'm thinking about going for Van de Sar as a straight swap for Hart.

Not really fair imo. Drogba and Rooney both play for 2 teams that have had tremendous success in that time (the last 5 years) and create chance after chance. I honestly don't think you can knock Bent's goalscoring abiltiy/record. Whereever he has been he has scored goals.

I know people think he isn't a good 'footballer' but his job is putting the ball in the net and he's great at doing it. Was Gary Lineker a good footballer? Not really but he was a top notch goal scorer

And my rank, esp. after this past week, needs *serious* help ... as in 'Captaining Maxi Rodriguez'-help.

Not really sure I know what you're asking exactly here. I was planning on a 4 point hit to bring in Rooney and perhaps Hangeland. Would I do a wildcard or take a bigger hit than that? No. I'm even re-thinking the Rooney move.

    STOCKDALE - Foster
    Terry - Dawson - Elmohamady - EVRA - Distin
    NANI - Fabregas - vdv - ADAM - Barton
    Tevez - Odemwingie - Carrol

Is four enough DGW players you think? I already used my free transfer on getting in Stockdale. Only got .9 in the bank. I find it hard to see good options in the teams that got DGW...

well i wouldnt say guaranteed sunderland and united could easily put two or three past them, perhaps a yellow card, so you may end up with 1 or 2, baines however real potential of clean sheet and assists

    who would you bench,

    alhabsi(DGW)foster
    vidic(DGW) coleman kolarov bardsley gohouriDGW)
    nani(DGW) adam(DGW) Fabregas VDV Dempsey(DGW)
    berbatov(DGW) tevez varney(DGW)

now vidic and dempsey are the two i bring in, but that leaves me with a dilemma in my front 8
do i just bench varney, although he has a DGW i think i'd rather have VDV fabregas and tevez on team

    any suggestions

nicked from Tosey, who nicked it from Jamsiep, who nicked it from Opta

Since Aug 2005 Darren Bent has scored 81 Premier League goals, only Rooney & Drogba (both 82) have more in the same period.

Which means among other things, they've all been in the Premier league for over 5 years.

VdV has only been here for half a year, so he's out of the equation. Ronaldo left 2 years ago, so he's out. Etc etc etc.

i've been that bored at work today i decided to go through all my transfers (55) and yes it's a shocking amount but it was strategy i wanted to try out seen as a guy beat me last season and he made 100 plus transfers and came about 15,000. Anyway my 55 transfers have cost me a total of -8 points i thought it would be alot more than that! Having said that there were 2 gameweeks where i actually lost 21 points and 18 points!
Now for something else to do whilst at work.........

There's no way you could've worked that our correctly! You're syaing that you've calculated the total points each player has accumulated since he was transferred out your team? Or have you simply compared the transferred player's total that week with the player you brough in?

For instance, I had Berbatov at the start and sold him a couple of weeks before he scored a hat-trick at Liverpool. Would you count those points, or only the points he scored the week I took him out.

I've a strong feeling we make more transfers than is wise for our teams.

Just what they made that week to the player i brought in that week if i tried to work out it all i would be here all day. I reckon if i worked it outr properly it would be aroun -50 to -75!! last season i made 40 i think and came about 20,000 a guy did over twice as many and beat me by 5000 places. I suppose its making the right transfer at the right time and captaining the right person (which i've failed at quite alot this season)

Yeah, makes sense. Some transfers will be based on fixtures, some will be based on form and others will just be a plain old hunch. It takes some luck for players to score well in the fixtures you expect them to. And then you need to get your captain right most weeks!
