When Carlos Tevez fetched his brace and Bonus in Gameweek 23 to boost his owners’ returns and put a knife in my heart, I searched everywhere for a scrap of consolation. The only thread I could muster was that, given his return against Wolves, his owners would surely think twice about swapping in double Gameweek assets or even Robin Van Persie. Sitting on Dimitar Berbatov and Fernando Torres, I could only look for my faith in them ahead of Gameweek 24 to pay off and hope that Tevez owners would sit still. There might just be a silver lining in there somewhere.

This evening Tevez huffed a puffed around a Villa Park pitch with his owners hoping that he could throw off the shackles and match the impressive tallies recorded by Torres, Berbatov and Van Persie – he failed.

The power certainly shifted. Berbatov exploded once again – another hat-trick, taking him to 17 goals for the season. The formula now seems confirmed – Old Trafford+Wayne Rooney=Big Berbatov returns.

Rooney himself, wrongly selected ahead of the Bulgarian in my Scout Picks going on today’s showing, fetched a pair of assists and scraped Bonus. The trip to Blackpool may yet bring further points for Rooney, but with confidence flowing through his icy veins, few would back against further Berbatov returns at Bloomfield Road. That’s if he plays of course – we need reminding that Alex Ferguson dropped his goal machine to the bench following his five goals against Blackburn; nothing is assured.

Having said that, perhaps Robin Van Persie’s contribution in Arsenal’s 3-0 drubbing of Wigan was nailed-on. Subject of a recent Knee Jerk, the Dutchman’s form continues to demand the upmost attention from Fantasy Managers. Van Persie has snatched the thunder from both Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas and is hauling points at an alarming rate. With fixtures falling in his lap, it’s hard to see Van Persie letting up; unless another tweak or twinge intervenes of course.

Then we have Torres – his brace at Wolves signaled his gradual ascent back to form. Two goals away from home, with Fulham at Anfield still to come in the Gameweek. He’ll be licking his lips, as will his owners.

What a difference a week makes. Suddenly Carlos doesn’t look so essential. While he’s got his feet up in midweek gazing at the pictures of his kids on the mantelpiece, Torres, Berbatov and Rooney will be helping themselves to more points. Then, in Gameweek 25, while he takes the banana skin trip to Birmingham – today’s big scoring trio all have home fixtures to follow their doubles.

Few of us can find a place for all these riches. Fantasy Managers have no choice but to shuffle the forward line with form and fixtures, back hunches and hope for results. One thing looks certain – standing still, getting locked in by FPL prices and putting faith in long-term returns from your strikers looks folly. Having the resolve to say goodbye an old faithful is a big ask, but if you can anticipate the power shifts or at least go with it, it looks likely to prove crucial.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Finding it hard to decide on my free transfer for next GW, would save it but plan to wildcard the following week, so I'll lose right?

Might draft in Brunt (home to Wigan)
would mean benching Yaya Toure, anyone think this is a good move?

Not really. If they have a rubbish team chances are the value is low meaning they can't get the more expensive players, or at least not as many at once.

Also if they have been poor chances are it won't change all that much, even so, you're ahead right? Just stay ahead!

I spend a lot more time on my team than most, it's annoying to see people who don't do better.

Hi Churchill. On 69 (-4) without wildcarding with 6 to play. 4 point hit paid off great but disappointed I didn't do the Tevez --> Berba transfer. Got a nice green arrow so an OK week. GW 27 I'll tear it up though 😉

        Hello Mr,

It was a risk doing Tevez to Berbatov. On this occasion it paid off, thankfully.

What thrills & spills do you have in mind for GW27?

I should have about 10/11 DGWers and a squad that sets me up perfectly for the rest of the season.

I was going to wildcard tonight, but I want to know the fate of the Carling Cup teams, etc. Plus the teams with nice fixtures GW 26 also have nice doubles, AND good fixtures for the rest of the season. Love that I still have my wildcard. I'll probably use it after GW 25.

What about you? When you pulling the trigger? I see you've made three transfers, is it a money making tactic?

The only question is just how many risks do I take?

Carroll isn't for me, unless he shows that dazzling form again. I'll have Albrighton 5th mid and Odemwingie 3rd striker, they rotate very well.

I'm probably only going to have 1 Brum defender - Murphy. Possibly Foster as well but probably Fabianski.

I think Brum will strugle without Scott Dann.

The Brum option only exists if their TGW (sounds tasty huh?) is confirmed. I'd be happy to roll the dice & bring in Foster + 2 defenders.

Odemwinige is a keeper for GW27. Carroll is one I'd like to bring in. Even if he's unfit, a risk I'd take.

I really fancy this front 8
                Nani, Fabregas, Cahill, Etherington,VDV,
                Carroll, Odemwinigie, RVP.

Loaded with attacking talent. I hope.

                  Similar enough to mine:

                  Fabregas, Cahill, Nani, VDV, Albrighton*
                  RVP, Tevez, Odemwingie*

It's either Albrighton and Odemwingie or Carroll and some 4.3 deadweight.

I'm taking a risk not having Tevez. Think the £ could be better utilised elsewhere.

After GW27 will reconsider the bullet proof Argentine. GW27 could really propel a team forward.

Failing Carroll, Nolan is worthy of serious consideration.

      If your question boils down to;
      1) Fabregas & Nasri.
      2)Fabregas & RVP.

Personally I'd choose option 2. You acquire a penalty & free kick taker.

Saw a stat that everytime Man Utd and Liverpool play eachother in the cup, the winner always goes onto win it.. Plus you obviously have a great chance anyway!

I one of Wolves & Brum will go down, second season syndrome and all that and feel Wolves do have a better team. Scott Dann's injury could be huge, their survival in this league basically depends on their back four.

Dunno about Forest, just was impressed with them last year and they have a very good squad for that league. Look to be hitting form at the right time too.

Might put the £5 on! 😀

          Go for it.

Regarding that stat, the last six times they met in the FA Cup the winner went on to win. However two of them were finals and possibly a semi or two 😛

I like Spurs at 7/1. Wish I got them at 9/1 before the 3rd round though 🙁

My (limited) understanding is 'if a player doesn't significantly alter the trajectory of the ball'. He is not deemed as having the last touch.

Exactly what significantly is, is down to interpretation. Go on FPL Towers be good sports.

I've done it before, like I don't like captaining someone in the early kick off and I've also got someone in from a team playing 5:30 on a Saturday just so I'm not bored, ha!

Could still work out for you, all these players with high scores have obviously done brilliant so far but anything could change that. Rooney could end up outscoring Berba, N'Zog could end up outscoring Dempsey, you just never know.

Yup, who says against Blackpool that Rooney won't score 2 whilst Berbatov gets a measly points, could easily happen.

I remember last year the double where some were captaining N'Zog and some Tevez. Tevez after the first game was in the best position to easily outscore N'Zog but he had to go to Argentina or something and N'Zog got like 10 more points than him as captain.

              Anything can happen!

Well I wildcarded and did pretty poor considering, got 67. Like you I had Evra, plus Kyle Walker of Villa, who is injured but knowone knew anything about it, which means I'm 11 points short.

I also went for Torres & Rooney over Berba & Van Persie but I'm not fussed yet really, Rooney can still outscore Berbatov and Torres should outscore Van Persie quite easily imo.

You play the odds. Factor in form & fixtures. Then sit back & hope for the best.

With Fabregas in the team Nasri might start wide left/right. The reality is interchange & positional play is fluid. They all move around a lot during games.

RVP kind of makes those around him look better than they are. Because he plays the 'false nine' position very well. Drops deep & floats across the front line. Making him difficult to pick up.

It's sods law that the player you kick out then score big.

Long term (for me anyway) it's Fabregas & RVP.

here is my dream wildcard squad. I'm 2.8m short. where would you save some money? cech will go after gw28, want him for that double.

    foster, cech
    djourou, coleman, rafael, murphy, johnson
    fabs, vdv, adam, cahill, nani
    rvp, tevez, odemwingie

          Fair enough.

Etherington over two games taking penalties, direct free kicks & corners. Monster size Carew might just be on the end of a few of those corners.

          Worth a punt for me.

they rotate very strong home fixtures for rest of season and spurs are actually very tight at home. They've only conceded more than 1 goal once at WHL this season and 3 cs in last 3 home games seems to suggest WHL is now the fortress it was last season when they had one of the best home defences in the league. (different story away I know).
I'll be playing gomes at home v bol, ars, whm, sto, wba, blp, bir.

yeah i thought about begovic but for about 5 weeks they don't rotate well and his home games aren't nearly as good as gomes and stoke concede more at home. Pretty set on the gk's tbh so I'm really hoping for a hammers win in the carling

evening lads, just woke from a powernap...RVP is turning shit into gold at the mo.
WC earlier and stuck in all the risers and try make some cashish.

Originally my front 3 was going to be tevez, rvp and odemwingie but may keep it
torres, rvp, berba for the next week then dump berba for odem.

    draft would be :

    foster/begovic

    rafael,coleman,djourou,kelly,carr/murphy

    fabs,nani,vdv,adam,barton

    torres,rvp,berba

    aim towards 27 is:

    berba>odemwingie
    barton/adam>cahill

    thoughts?

good, but i watched liverpool game and they were fortunate to get a clean sheet. i suppose you could argue having kelly is good as liverpool are a top 10 team on the up.

hey bojan, quite similar to my wc for this week.
Imo you should just put cahill and odem in now, you have the perfect set up to bench cahill for 25 and odem for 26 and make no trades in gw26. That way you could use 1 in gw27 and still have 2 free for 28 when your likely to have 6 players without a game.
You might want to consider walker instead of kelly as he will rotate brilliantly with murphy for the rest of the season, every week one of them has a very good home fixture.

hey champ (said in american accent :D)
theres a few ideas like that indeed..but im thinking id rather have a player at that price playing and with the striker thing im thinking rvp, torres, berba have great home fix next week could be another monster haul.
walker didnt play today any idea why?

so many things could change between now and 26/27 that god knows whats gona happen..
ive thought when it comes to defenders>look at fixtures/team forwards>form

walker pulled up with a slight back injury apparently. I know what you mean with torres but tbh odem very good at home and v wigan he could well match or outscore him. Imo you should set up your wildcard so barring injuries no trades are needed for a couple weeks, especially with dgw's in 27 and missing gw's in 28 coming up.
I agree on the defence, I'm trying to set it up so I don't need to make any trades there. Think I'm going with kolarov, rafael, coleman, walker, murphy and fabianski, gomes in goals. Rafa, kolarov, coleman can play most weeks but one murphy/walker will have a good home fixture each week when the others have a tough fixture.

still keeping faith in kolarov? hmm they just look like crap defensively your hoping for an attacking return. You dont fancy a punt on kelly or djourou?
well if i was to drop one of those boys i think it would be berbatov, villa look like they are getting better and always give united a good game, his 2 fixtures after are away games.

I think the plan looks good, bojan. Berbatov, despite his big haul is prone to large barren spells without scoring and may be better to be chopped, these next couple of weeks will be crucial.

I like the idea of getting cahill, his double in gwk27 screams a big haul!

keepers/defenders, top notch choices, if djorou keeps it up for the season then it will be a massive win. kelly looks impressive too, watched the game yesterday and he did very well, changed my mind about boycotting liverpool players, a spirited performance by them. I think murphy is some danger from set pieces so i'd have him over carr in mind of his potential treble

you need to watch albrighton closely, he has a near perfect rotation with odemwingie so would make a lot of sense to have him if your going to do adam>cahill

really enjoying this gameweek and it's my birthday today! hurrah! 🙂
