When Carlos Tevez fetched his brace and Bonus in Gameweek 23 to boost his owners’ returns and put a knife in my heart, I searched everywhere for a scrap of consolation. The only thread I could muster was that, given his return against Wolves, his owners would surely think twice about swapping in double Gameweek assets or even Robin Van Persie. Sitting on Dimitar Berbatov and Fernando Torres, I could only look for my faith in them ahead of Gameweek 24 to pay off and hope that Tevez owners would sit still. There might just be a silver lining in there somewhere.

This evening Tevez huffed a puffed around a Villa Park pitch with his owners hoping that he could throw off the shackles and match the impressive tallies recorded by Torres, Berbatov and Van Persie – he failed.

The power certainly shifted. Berbatov exploded once again – another hat-trick, taking him to 17 goals for the season. The formula now seems confirmed – Old Trafford+Wayne Rooney=Big Berbatov returns.

Rooney himself, wrongly selected ahead of the Bulgarian in my Scout Picks going on today’s showing, fetched a pair of assists and scraped Bonus. The trip to Blackpool may yet bring further points for Rooney, but with confidence flowing through his icy veins, few would back against further Berbatov returns at Bloomfield Road. That’s if he plays of course – we need reminding that Alex Ferguson dropped his goal machine to the bench following his five goals against Blackburn; nothing is assured.

Having said that, perhaps Robin Van Persie’s contribution in Arsenal’s 3-0 drubbing of Wigan was nailed-on. Subject of a recent Knee Jerk, the Dutchman’s form continues to demand the upmost attention from Fantasy Managers. Van Persie has snatched the thunder from both Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas and is hauling points at an alarming rate. With fixtures falling in his lap, it’s hard to see Van Persie letting up; unless another tweak or twinge intervenes of course.

Then we have Torres – his brace at Wolves signaled his gradual ascent back to form. Two goals away from home, with Fulham at Anfield still to come in the Gameweek. He’ll be licking his lips, as will his owners.

What a difference a week makes. Suddenly Carlos doesn’t look so essential. While he’s got his feet up in midweek gazing at the pictures of his kids on the mantelpiece, Torres, Berbatov and Rooney will be helping themselves to more points. Then, in Gameweek 25, while he takes the banana skin trip to Birmingham – today’s big scoring trio all have home fixtures to follow their doubles.

Few of us can find a place for all these riches. Fantasy Managers have no choice but to shuffle the forward line with form and fixtures, back hunches and hope for results. One thing looks certain – standing still, getting locked in by FPL prices and putting faith in long-term returns from your strikers looks folly. Having the resolve to say goodbye an old faithful is a big ask, but if you can anticipate the power shifts or at least go with it, it looks likely to prove crucial.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I have both players so irrelevant to me-I've looked at MOtD and I'm convinced it 'touched' Walcott as it came through-sorry guys.

If you look closely Walcott takes a touch on it so if anything should be his assist....assume you're on about the last goal?

Just watched again and flight of ball is going towards goal from Fab ball in; when RVP scores note the ball is moving away from goal - obviously someone got a touch, Walcott or not.

Tevez or dezko for the WC. dezko is more center and cheap so that I can make front 3 of RVP-Rooney-Dezko with Fab-Nani-VDV-Walcott. Or should I go for RVP-Rooney-Tevez with Adam instead of Walcott.
    Any advice from experts ??

RVP will play brilliantly for 10 games then get injured, if previous seasons are anything to go by. Difference this year is Wenger gave him a massive rest after the World Cup so he could start making the returns he's doing now, maybe his injury problems are behind him.

Suffice to say, RVP will be 10.5 in around this time next month IMO!

    nasri, fabregas, vdv, adam, nani
    dj campbell, tevez, carroll

i want to bring in van persie and the only way i can do that is if i do:

Well, a lot depends on Kingson for me as my other keeper is Carson. Didn't want to bother changing keepers before I wildcard and only go £4m to spend without taking points hit.

If Kingson cant play next week then I will have to get Stockdale until GW27.

Keeping Tevez for now, so RVP will score big again next week and Tevez get nothing!

Howzit Bojan. Played my WC for the gameweek(24) that we are in. Happy with my score, just p-offed that I bought Dempsey on friday eve prior to price increase and then I sold him yesterday morning for Fabregas!

I also got side tracked with the "you can never bench VDV and play Coleman vs Westham" talk. That cost me since Djourou/Bardsley are sitting in my bench while I played Coleman(1 pt).

Gw 27 is going to take some tough decisions. Who to bench. I set up my team with WC so that I should(barring injuries/rotation)have 8 double gw players even if I dont do any trades.

I have Fab/Brunt/Adam/VDV in midfield at the moment with Nani. Cahill looks tempting but I suppose all the talk of some of the teams not playing in gw 28 will influence my final team selection.

The guy in 4th place in my league captained Dempsey this week on his wildcard.

I was 37 pts ahead of him yesterday morning. Now, thanks to Van Persie and Dempsey he is 5 pts ahead.

I captained Nani this week so got to hope he has a big game at Blackpool.

ok, i can take out nasri for dempsey, kolarov, for djourou, vidic for rafael and then carroll for van persie.

    then my team will be:

    hart, stockdale
coleman, huth, johnson r, rafael, djourou
    dempsey, adam, fabregas, vdv, nani
    dj campbell, tevez, van persie

how does that look? It'll leave me 1.5 in the bank

Hard to argue with that but (call the fire brigade) i've a feeling Rooney is about to go on fire and Berbatov is likely to be rested once Champs League comes back around.

    Hit the WC button:

    Foster / Carson
    Vidic - Kelly - Djourou - Coleman - Kolarov
    VDV - Nani - Walcott - Adam - Brunt
    RVP - Torres - Berbs

On the fence about Kolarov, and depends where Adam ends up, but that should get me through a couple of weeks and store up transfers for future doubles.

Any bright ideas or glaring mistakes? 1.2 in the bank to fiddle...

Yes, particularly if Adam goes to Lpool and gets less minutes. Meireles good call if he continues to be played up front of midfield.

Just watched again and flight of ball is going towards goal from Fab ball in; when RVP scores note the ball is moving away from goal – obviously someone got a touch, Walcott or not.

But if it wasn't Walcott, there's a good argument that it's Fabs' assist.

I doubt they'll change it but you never know with crazy old FPL towers.

I'm very tempted but unfortunately can't afford that without downgrading Fabregas.

        My thoughts are
        1) Fab and Carroll -> RVP and Walcott (4 point hit); OR
        2) Tevez -> RVP

Bit concerned to rush into that prior to the DGW fixtures though...
