When Carlos Tevez fetched his brace and Bonus in Gameweek 23 to boost his ownersโ€™ returns and put a knife in my heart, I searched everywhere for a scrap of consolation. The only thread I could muster was that, given his return against Wolves, his owners would surely think twice about swapping in double Gameweek assets or even Robin Van Persie. Sitting on Dimitar Berbatov and Fernando Torres, I could only look for my faith in them ahead of Gameweek 24 to pay off and hope that Tevez owners would sit still. There might just be a silver lining in there somewhere.

This evening Tevez huffed a puffed around a Villa Park pitch with his owners hoping that he could throw off the shackles and match the impressive tallies recorded by Torres, Berbatov and Van Persie โ€“ he failed.

The power certainly shifted. Berbatov exploded once again โ€“ another hat-trick, taking him to 17 goals for the season. The formula now seems confirmed โ€“ Old Trafford+Wayne Rooney=Big Berbatov returns.

Rooney himself, wrongly selected ahead of the Bulgarian in my Scout Picks going on todayโ€™s showing, fetched a pair of assists and scraped Bonus. The trip to Blackpool may yet bring further points for Rooney, but with confidence flowing through his icy veins, few would back against further Berbatov returns at Bloomfield Road. Thatโ€™s if he plays of course โ€“ we need reminding that Alex Ferguson dropped his goal machine to the bench following his five goals against Blackburn; nothing is assured.

Having said that, perhaps Robin Van Persieโ€™s contribution in Arsenalโ€™s 3-0 drubbing of Wigan was nailed-on. Subject of a recent Knee Jerk, the Dutchmanโ€™s form continues to demand the upmost attention from Fantasy Managers. Van Persie has snatched the thunder from both Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas and is hauling points at an alarming rate. With fixtures falling in his lap, itโ€™s hard to see Van Persie letting up; unless another tweak or twinge intervenes of course.

Then we have Torres โ€“ his brace at Wolves signaled his gradual ascent back to form. Two goals away from home, with Fulham at Anfield still to come in the Gameweek. Heโ€™ll be licking his lips, as will his owners.

What a difference a week makes. Suddenly Carlos doesnโ€™t look so essential. While heโ€™s got his feet up in midweek gazing at the pictures of his kids on the mantelpiece, Torres, Berbatov and Rooney will be helping themselves to more points. Then, in Gameweek 25, while he takes the banana skin trip to Birmingham โ€“ todayโ€™s big scoring trio all have home fixtures to follow their doubles.

Few of us can find a place for all these riches. Fantasy Managers have no choice but to shuffle the forward line with form and fixtures, back hunches and hope for results. One thing looks certain – standing still, getting locked in by FPL prices and putting faith in long-term returns from your strikers looks folly. Having the resolve to say goodbye an old faithful is a big ask, but if you can anticipate the power shifts or at least go with it, it looks likely to prove crucial.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

And what happens if Tevez goes nuts at Brum and Everton stifle Van Persie next week? You'll swap them back again?

RVP may go on a tear now but it's not a given. This has been a funny old season and very few players have been high scoring on a consistent basis.

Ok, I think you misunderstood ๐Ÿ˜›

In a better team, with better holding mids, that wouldn't happen. Besides, he wasn't exactly at fault for the first one, he could have tracked back, but the defending wasn't great anyway.

But his position is as a deep lying midfielder! And he's completely incompetent defensively so costs them goals from time to time...

He barely got a kick of the ball when he moved further forward in the Birmingham game, with Southern and Vaughan 'holding' behind him.

I seem to remember this being Milan's problem with Pirlo back when they tried to play him, Seedorf, Kaka and Rui Costa in the same midfield.

They only won the league again when Ancelotti realised he needed Gattusso and Ambrosini to mop up after Pirlo.

Adam needs the same sort of protection to stop him being a liability.

    Continue the talk last page:
I didn’t watch MU match. I wonder what happened to Rooney? Is it playing wing or playing really deep?
Is it Rooney worth a keep?

Some members stated Rooney is playing very deep as a free role and was moved to wing after Owen came in.

Actually, I prefer Rooney because of his consistency. I used to buy Berbatov after he scored a hat trick against Liverpool, and he never score while he's in my team. After I sold him out, he scored 5 goals and 3 goals against Blackburn and Birmingham.

A big battle: Rooney vs Berbatov

    Whatcha say?

      It's pretty simple:

Rooney = no rotation risk, will provide assists and maybe an odd goal.

Berba = goalscoring machine at OT but might not play against the big teams when Utd favour 451. There are quite a few tough fixtures coming up too.

Were you watching the game? Berbatov and Giggs were head and shoulders above him and even Rooney played better, Nani wasted so many chances it wasn't right.

Don't get me wrong, i have him too so i would have liked some BP's but he didn't deserve them.

Yes, I watched it, and he might be selfish, but he was the player that BIRM feared most, always dropping off him, and he played hard all day. Berbs had 3 goals, yay, he is a modern day garbage man. I agree Rooney played well too, dropping back and helping Fabio when he made runs. Giggs played alright, sharp passes but nothing dominant.

I'm not an experienced viewer, but I thought Nani was very self-centered today, shooting every time he touched the ball and often not seeing or even looking for open teammates. Reminded me very much of Arshavin.

Your gonna do it anyway so why not. I too want the lad, but not on an early tranfer, the boys legs are far to fragile for that, dont want next saturday to come round and find that ive used my one free tranfer on a broken player...

      I'd hesitate...

Take a look at Arsenals Home League Table position versus Evetons away League table position...

      http://www.premierleague.com/page/Statistics/0,,12306,00.html

Then compare it with Liverpools & Stokes.

Sometimes, the best thing to do is...Nothing.
