Blackburn move up to the heady heights of seventh in the table as they make short work of another pretty but ineffective display from Roberto Di Matteo’s West Brom. Here’s the notes from Sunday’s single encounter…

Steve Kean made two changes to his Blackburn lineup, handing starts to new signings Roque Santa Cruz and Jermaine Jones. Ryan Nelsen sat out with a knee injury, while Mame Diouf dropped to the bench. Jones came straight in at left-back, with Gael Givet shifting to partner Chris Samba in the centre of defence.

Junior Hoilett’s performance, epitomised by a superb strike for his first Premier League goal, was the highlight of a routine 2-0 win for Rovers. The Canadian striker looks to have cemented his starting role with a string of impressive showings, prompting Steve Kean to single him out for praise. Hoilett rightly earned him the maximum Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus from yesterday’s game.

Hoilett, picked out in Big Dunc’s “Spot the Differential” on Saturday morning, is available for just 4.0 in the FPL game – only Marlon Harewood at 3.9, can be found cheaper amongst the Forwards. It’s unfortunate that Hoilett’s stock is rising at a time when having 3 top tier strikers in a 3-4-3 looks to be the preferred formation in the FPL; Hoilett would make a strong option as a cheap bench striker for those looking to keep faith with a regular 3-5-2 in the FPL.

The Blackburn defence kept a first clean sheet in 8 games with Paul Robinson playing a big part in preserving their lead. Jermaine Jones was also praised by Steve Kean post-match, having made his debut in the Rovers back four.

“His passing and the way he kept the ball for us as well was fantastic. He was a £10million player before his last injury and, with his performance today (Sunday) and another couple of games under his belt, I think he’ll be fantastic for us.”

In truth the American was fortunate not to have conceded a penalty having cut down Peter Odemwingie in the box only for referee Mark Clattenburg to adjudge the challenge to have occurred outside of the box, much to Di Matteo’s frustration.

As for West Brom, they continue to play good football without reward. Their slide down the table is beginning to alarm with 6 defeats in their last 7 league matches. Fortunately for them, fixtures do at least hand them a route to escape the slump (WIG mcy WHM WOL). The Baggies have three home games in four and a double fixture in Gameweek 27 that may even earn attention for the likes of Chris Brunt and Peter Odemwingie. That pair continue to be the most likely to Roberto Di Matteo’s men, dominating in terms of influence and goal threat. Jerome Thomas also showed up at Ewood Park however – he looks to be carrying strong form into that run of home fixtures.

The own goal from Gabriel Tamas for Blackburn’s opener marked an unfortunate double for the Romanian against Rovers. Tamas also got sent off in the reverse of this fixture last month making them very much his bogey team having scored -2/-1 against Rovers this season.

Di Matteo was able to welcome back Jonas Olsson to his starting lineup after he’d missed a long spell with an Achilles injury, followed by a suspension. His return allowed Paul Scharner to shift into midfield to replace the injured Graham Dorrans who had an ankle problem.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I believe he can't make any more transfers until he does. They can stay as long as no transfers are made though.

Wouldn't suprise me if Holloway plays him anyway. Typical Holloway response would be "He's still our player and he plays for us until I say otherwise. If he has a bad game because of it, even better, it might put teams off him".

Many difficult matches next GW, so I don't see the point in using my wildcard...other than the money-issue! So maybe just Etherington to Dempsey? Or maybe a new goalie? Have kingston and Foster, but Birmingham are playing Man City and Blackpool always conceed...! Best keeper for the upcoming gw? money is not an issue since I'm playing my wildcard the next gw or so...

Yo JP, we almost have identical sides, bar our keepers, and I have Baines to your Coleman (who I will be downgrading to on WC), Simpson to your Jara and Bardsley to your Johnson (that sounds sick), interested to see what you are thinking in terms of WC, this week is awful tempting, we will know if games are off in 28, players are shooting up in value (mainly Arsenal), and it gives me something to do this weekend in my downtime!

Ha! And we have identical team values too!

Definitely not wildcarding this week though, can put out a very solid team without even making a transfer:

      Jussi (WLV)
Vidic (AVL) Kolarov (bir) Johnson (STK)
Nasri (EVE) N'Zogbia (wba) VDV (bla) Nani (AVL)
Rooney (AVL) Torres (STK) Campbell (WHM)

Other than possibly Fabregas and RVP, there aren't any players that I'd change if I did wildcard this week.. Best to leave it to around week 27 where you can probably exploit the all the doubles.

        +1

No changes this week, then maybe Torres & Nasri > Tevez & Cahill/Silva/VDV/Young in GW 26. That's what i'm looking at then WC in GW27

I'll probably play Adam that week. Which of these do you prefer?

Torres & Brunt > Tevez & Yaya Toure
            or
            Torres/Nasri > Tevez & Cahill/Silva/VDV/Young

The first one would probably see me benching Albrighton and playing a midfield of Nani, Nasri, Adam & Yaya. Second option i'd be playing Nani, Albrighton, Adam & one of the 4 above.

Adam will have Chelsea away. 😉

So it's either Albrighton and Cahill/Silva/VDV/Young or Nasri and Yaya...

              I vote Nasri and Yaya.

Yeah well if that happens then i'll have a rethink. Not much difference getting rid of Adam or Brunt if he does move, can always get Brunt (or another WBA player) back on the WC.

How's your WC shaping up? I'm finding it tough getting a squad good enough to tackle GW 28

Still haven't properly thought about it! I'm leaving thinking about it until as late as possible... That way I won't fret about price changes, and we'll know all about the possible postponements.

Sensible. Can't do anything concrete really anyway until the (possible) postponements are sorted. Had a little look at the goalies and Foster & Harper look like an ok combo going forward

Not that I'm asked or anything but I think this is a good week for a wildcard.

Most teams that have an interesting double has good fixtures up until then as well, and for me personally I think I'll get more points with a wildcard team up until GW27 than with my current team.

Let me know if you play it and we can share some ideas.

no chance he will be rested, and for what? Southampton in the Cup? I think Hernandez and maybe Owen might get a run out against Southampton with either Rooney or Berb, reckon it will be Rooney and Berb tomorrow night again, it's not that Rooney played badly, it was just the fact his position is so deep, that being said, again, he had chances to score, it will come, but probably when he is gone from my team!

absolutely stumped as to what to do regarding gw25

team as it stands is -
          hart/al habsi
          baird, a.cole, vidic, hange, foley
          nasri, dempsey, vdv, brunt, nani
          cambell, rodallega, berb

I know its in a bit of a state but am wildcarding for 26 to get it back in line. However who to bring in for this week?

Swap out cole for djourou and cambell for van persie?
or get in some liverpool cover? Torres is too expensive but Meireles? but surely the return of Stevie G will disrupt his position and form?

So my WC is activated and my new team currently reads:

          Gordon - Begovic
          Rafael - Kolarov - Coleman - Djorou - Kelly
          Nani - Nasri - VDV - Dempsey - Adam
Tevez - Berbatov - Van Persie

Plus enough funds to do Dempsey > Cahill once he's back playing.

          Any thoughts on this team?
