Liverpool have refused a written transfer request from Fernando Torres as the Spanish striker seeks to force the club’s hand following the rejected transfer bid from Chelsea.

After several sources reported the formal request form the Spanish striker on Friday night, Liverpool moved quickly and issued a statement offering confirmation…

“Fernando Torres tonight submitted a written transfer request, which has been rejected by Liverpool.Fernando is under a long-term contract and the Club expects him to honour the commitment he made to Liverpool FC and its supporters when he signed the agreement.”

This follows an official bid from Chelsea that was revealed just 24-hours earlier; an approach that was swiftly rejected by Liverpool. Torres however, appears to have other ideas and reports on Friday suggested that the striker was “open” to the move and has urged the club to consider the offer. On Friday night those stories escalated further and Torres and his advisors have clearly decided to take more formal action to push for an Anfield exit.

The Daily Telegraph have suggested that Chelsea are ready to act on this latest development and are willing to up their offer by throwing in Daniel Sturridge as a makeweight, along with £30 million in transfer funds.

As suggested yesterday, Liverpool would seem unlikely to sell their star asset in the January window, although today’s news that a fee with Ajax for the signature of Luis Suarez has been agreed, proved an inevitable catalyst for further speculation. A Torres transfer request does considerably change the complexion of the situation and, with Chelsea poised, there now seems a possibility that the January transfer window will see a move between two British top flight clubs that would genuinely shake up the entire Premier League.

Fantasy Managers can only sit back and watch this one unfold further. Having already weathered storms served up by disgruntled versions of Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez this season, it will be interesting to see if this situation settles with a similar outcome. However, with Chelsea ready to offer funds and Liverpool already in possession of a new striker, something could actually materialise from this latest “sensational transfer saga”.

In the short-term, Torres is of course due to figure in Wednesday’s Premier League clash with Stoke at Anfield; right now, his involvement in that game looks unlikely as his future at Liverpool spirals into doubt.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

How much d'ya all think Luis Suarez will get valued at then? I reckon somewhere between 6 to 6.5, normally keepers aren't listed as more expensive than that.

but he is not a normal keeper so i think he will be valued around 9.0 😉

Repost, bit confusing without the dividing lines.

Peter Schmeichel -- Edwin van der Sar
    Gary Neville -- Rafael
    Ronny Johnsen -- Nemanja Vidić
    Jaap Stam -- Rio Ferdinand
    Denis Irwin -- Patrice Evra
    Ryan Giggs -- Antonio Valencia
    David Beckham -- Nani
    Nicky Butt -- Michael Carrick
    Roy Keane/Jesper Blomqvist -- Darren Fletcher/Anderson
    Dwight Yorke -- Dimitar Berbatov
    Andy Cole -- Wayne Rooney

      you missed Scholes.

I also think having Sheringham and Solskjaer was a pretty big factor.

And yes, the '99 team was better.

The midfield of the 99 team was probably better, Keane being a major factor of that, but I think United's defence and attack is probably better today. I'm sorry but no matter which way you cut it Dwight Yorke is not better than Berbatov.

Get Simpson over Murphy. Guaranteed starter at 3.9m.

Downgrade Hutton too so you can get someone better than Stockdale. He won't be worth anything after Schwarzer gets back.

        Morning all.

Planning to WC in GW27. Had it in my head to do Foster and Harper as my GK rotation as their fixtures interchange beautifully (no Begovic as will get Huth and don't want to double up on any of my defenders).

However, Sunderland rotate really well with Birmingham too from that point on.

Wondering whether I'm better off going for Foster & Gordon as my GK combo and maybe have Colloccini as one of my cheap DEF.

        What do you think?

Don't like any of your suggestions unfortunately.

Don't like Huth at that price, goalie rotation with Gordon isn't such a bad idea, but Begovic is probably a better goalie choice because it's cheaper to invest in Sunderland defenders than Stoke.

Why Coloccini? He doesn't have a record of BPs and doesn't score many goals? Go for Simpson.

Huth has some good fixtures and is a constant goal scoring threat.

If I didn't play Huth then I'd get Begovic but not many GS defs around for that kind of money (will be getting Coleman too). I like him.

Coloccini appears to be given the green light by Pardew to keep attacking so could well start picking up more goals or get some assists.

Also thinking of Collins instead of Kolarov.

You can justify getting anyone in your team really. I just feel some players have more convincing arguments in their favor. Kolarov over Collins is the easiest example.

I don't believe in this talk of "differentials". You choose the best 15 players for your team, if other people are getting them as well, so be it. Choosing players that are riskier in the hopes of big returns will almost always result in losses.

The only player I'm madly keen on is Huth as I think he has genuine goal potential still. However, downgrading would allow me to have better forwards and keep Tevez so I may well take your advice there

Simpson is a good call at £3.9m.

I'm not overly keen on keeping Kolarov to be honest with you, Camzy.

For his money he's produced 1 clean sheets, 0 goals, 0 assists and 1 red card. I've had him during all that spell and not sure I'm going to see anything positive from him any time soon.

You've got to admit though that Kolarov's returns so far have been astonishingly unlucky. Subbed on 57 minutes, sent off, conceded almost every game...

He still has amazing potential, and one of these games he's going to get a double digit score.

Don't limit yourself to playing the WC GW 27.

Personally, I'd play it next week. You can get a team setup for GW 27 and have two frees left to make changes for GW 28 which is set to be a right mess if Arsenal, Spurs, Brum don't play.

Don't like Murphy. 3.9m is a good price, but you'll most probably have him as bench sitter so get someone who's more guaranteed of starts in case of emergencies.

Bardsley is starting to not be a good deal. You can pick up Bramble for cheaper Sunderland coverage, and for a similar price you can get Hutton who plays for a much better team.

              Looks great.

              Similar team setup to mine.

Wouldn't make knee jerky transfers just to take advantage of the GW 27 doubles.

Odemwingie is most definitely knee jerky, especially since you'd have to replace one of your current forwards and restructure your whole team layout.

Wait and see, but your team at the moment is well setup.

I'd go Kolarov actually. He seems to have the LB role, and he's still on corners, the odd free kicks and gets forward a lot. If Dzeko gets his head on the end of some of the crosses, he could be looking at some serious attacking points to go with the inevitably decent defensive returns City are due.

                    Yeah played it.

Planned 3 weeks in advance to play it GW 24. Looks like I made the right choice too. Everybody now's practically copying my team. 10/15 of the same players usually.

i take it our new fav irish defender is taking place at LB and should be from here on in?

might give him a whirl if i get a wildcard goin

The thing that puts me off getting him (Kelly) in on my WC is the horrible stretch of games Liverpool have from GW29-33.

Chances are you probably won't want to play him in any of those games (unless you play him away to WBA in GW31). That's virtually a 5 week block with him on your bench.

I can see the obvious attraction right now, but I'm not sure that he's worth a wild-card place if you're doing it in GW27. Djourou appears to offer you better set of games at the same price, and he still has a DGW to come.

    Vidic, Kolarov, Kelly, Coleman, Simpson(Djouru)
Fabregas, Nani, VDV, Barton, Adam (after this GW Cahill)

G/ks - they are not a great and reliable source of cs. Find someone who rotates well with Bergovic.

Defs - nice to know I'm not the only one with Comrade Kolarov but the time to produce ff pts has been well and truly passed. Vidic is too expensive and not keen on New defs.

Mids and fwds look good but not keen on Barton even though he is good value. Much prefer you booted Vidic/Kolarov allowing you Nasri/Walcott (heaven forbid). Adam looks a season keeper if he stays seaside.

      Good.

No need to get rid of Adam next week. He has another DGW in GW27.

I'm going to take VdV out for Cahill or Arteta in GW28 as VdV has no game that week and the following week Everton have a DGW.

      You can do the same.

Toying with the idea of optimising my WC for season-long strength as opposed to short term double game week success. Can i have thoughts for this proposed WC, identifying any strengths and weaknesses (not regarding injured players, I'm aware that they're injured :-))

Definitely look to plan for season-long strength.

It's why I went with only 6 double gameweekers in GW 24 even with a WC.

I'm not a fan of your defense though. Rafael and Vidic is too much investment in defense. You have to bench two of those every week you know...

Carroll also looks like he'll be out for at least 2 or 3 more weeks, but I think he won't be back until mid March which is GW 28 or 29. He'll drop a lot in that time, and to be honest, you need those striker slots.

everton/brum/newcastle/stoke's fixtures are very decent for a few weeks after gwk27, and the midfield and strikeforce doesn't need deliberating over

60-70m might end up being a good deal in the long run, n NESV seem to be a sensible bunch. With proper investment it could go a long way.

I'm sure Liverpool's other players are tired of hearing "Gerrard and Torres are the only world class players in the current Liverpool team".

If he goes it could have a galvanising effect, similiar to what happened at Arsenal when they got rid of Toure and Adebayor. The squad harmony as a whole improved as a whole, Arsenal are now eventually reaping the benefits of that.

all good points, to be fair the rest of liverpools squad is wank and they have not performed at all so those comments are justified, i still cant see torres going to chelsea. Could be a ploy to make these guys invest in the squad, the whole thing is bizarre and strange esp the timing of it

hahaha!! i dislike liverpool personally, yet recently they're displaying signs of not being that terrible, a 7th place finish is on the cards, behind Everton or Villa if one of those ultilises their fixtures to good effect.

          my final table:

          Arsenal
          Man Utd
          Man City
          Chelsea
          Spurs
          Everton
          Liverpool
          Aston Villa
          Sunderland

Wanna pick him but who to drop out of:

      Tevez/Berba/Torres

Might wait a few weeks to see how he settles, could actually improve Owingies points having him there.

      Thoughts please:
      Torres > V.Persie
      Y Toure > Cahill

leaves me 0.1 in bank, scared that V.Persie will rise and I wont be able to afford. Should I do this now? O wait till next week and pray.
