Liverpool have refused a written transfer request from Fernando Torres as the Spanish striker seeks to force the club’s hand following the rejected transfer bid from Chelsea.

After several sources reported the formal request form the Spanish striker on Friday night, Liverpool moved quickly and issued a statement offering confirmation…

“Fernando Torres tonight submitted a written transfer request, which has been rejected by Liverpool.Fernando is under a long-term contract and the Club expects him to honour the commitment he made to Liverpool FC and its supporters when he signed the agreement.”

This follows an official bid from Chelsea that was revealed just 24-hours earlier; an approach that was swiftly rejected by Liverpool. Torres however, appears to have other ideas and reports on Friday suggested that the striker was “open” to the move and has urged the club to consider the offer. On Friday night those stories escalated further and Torres and his advisors have clearly decided to take more formal action to push for an Anfield exit.

The Daily Telegraph have suggested that Chelsea are ready to act on this latest development and are willing to up their offer by throwing in Daniel Sturridge as a makeweight, along with £30 million in transfer funds.

As suggested yesterday, Liverpool would seem unlikely to sell their star asset in the January window, although today’s news that a fee with Ajax for the signature of Luis Suarez has been agreed, proved an inevitable catalyst for further speculation. A Torres transfer request does considerably change the complexion of the situation and, with Chelsea poised, there now seems a possibility that the January transfer window will see a move between two British top flight clubs that would genuinely shake up the entire Premier League.

Fantasy Managers can only sit back and watch this one unfold further. Having already weathered storms served up by disgruntled versions of Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez this season, it will be interesting to see if this situation settles with a similar outcome. However, with Chelsea ready to offer funds and Liverpool already in possession of a new striker, something could actually materialise from this latest “sensational transfer saga”.

In the short-term, Torres is of course due to figure in Wednesday’s Premier League clash with Stoke at Anfield; right now, his involvement in that game looks unlikely as his future at Liverpool spirals into doubt.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm thinking of just doing a straight transfer in GW28, VdV to Cahill or Arteta.

Everton have a double in GW29 so you can keep them for at least 2 weeks if you want VdV back afterwards. Probably make some money out of Cahill in that time too.

                I'm wildcarding either GW26 or 27.

Probably only have 8 doubles in my team as my main goal for playing the WC then is that I wanted to maximize the DGW and set my team up for the run in at the same time.

The only reasons to wildcard in GW6 for me would be to save a transfer in GW27 and use 2 in GW28. Plus RVP will go up again between now and the end of GW26 (unles she gets injured-again).

However, I'm not sure it's conducive doing 2 xfrs in GW28 as the 2 players you'll take out are probably players you want to keep anyway. And, its not like you can get them both back the following week without taking a points hit.

Thats why I'm thinking of just one player out that week.

Wha'ts you fire damage you need sorting, Flynn?

My dreadful Liverpool choices,2 Blackpool, and half my expensive defence.Like you I plan it for 26, same reasons.I may even play gw28 a player short to avoid points hit later, but may change nearer the time.I've had a torrid time since Christmas.

Sorry to repost, last on previous page.

Wanna pick Vela but who to drop out of:

    Tevez/Berba/Torres

Might wait a few weeks to see how he settles, could actually improve Owingies points having him there.

    Thoughts please:
    Torres > V.Persie
    Y Toure > Cahill

leaves me 0.1 in bank, scared that V.Persie will rise and I wont be able to afford. Should I do this now? O wait till next week and pray.

--- OR --- are Torres and the team gonna be a happy family? can see some bad words floating around the training pitch

I think the Torres situation is a weird one. I don't think it's about the arrival of Suarez, even though the timing might suggest so. I think it's because he knows he's not having a good season and he's starting to get a bit frustrated about all of this. Not sure how it's going to work out.

About your trades, I think Cahill might be a fantastic IF Australia win tonight against Japan. He'll be really high on confidence if we win the final. But don't do it till next gameweek.

Think waiting is a good option, means it wont cost anything either.
Also reports from the cup say he may be carrying an injury - "Australia are sweating over the fitness of Tim Cahill, who hasn’t had much of an impact at this tournament."

    Anyone else looking at Vela

I have been tinkering to have my WC line up with berbs, rvp and tevez upfront which meant i would need to Downgrade Fabs > Nasri for the DGW

Now I am not so sure. Does Vela go down as a WBA player as he is on loan? I am going to get Szczesny instead of Foster

He will be a WBA player yeah.

I was thinking about Odim for their double but Vela could be a better/cheaper option.

Would like to see how he does before deciding one way or the other though.

I'd go for Adam, VDV, Cesc, Malouda and maybe Brunt. He's got a fantastic double in GW 27 (Stoke and West Ham at home). Malouda is a must considering he is playing as a 3rd striker for Chelsea. At least he was against Bolton.
