With the bulk of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Manager’s line-ups exuding a certain familiarity – the likes of Dimitar Berbatov and Carlos Tevez occupying the forward positions and Gareth Bale, Nani, Rafael Van der Vaart and Samir Nasri all midfield staples – it is this time of the season, with around 14 Gameweeks remaining, that Managers are crying out for a key ‘differential’ to give them the edge over their rivals.

Having understandably been neglected by the FPL masses so far this season, Villa have had a change in fortunes having just recorded their first back-to-back Premier League victories of the season with convincing wins over Manchester City and Wigan. Ashley Young, also the subject of last week’s Technical Area, has played a pivotal role in this. With a current FPL ownership of 4.1% compared to the likes of Van der Vaart (36.9%) and Nani (42.5%), Young could be that key differential.

Gerard Houllier’s recent tactics seems to be paying dividends for the side. The Manchester City victory saw Darren Bent as a lone striker, supported by an attacking midfield three of Gabriel Agbonlahor on the left, Ashley Young in the centre and Albrighton on the right with Stewart Downing dropping back into a deeper central midfield two alongside Stiliyan Petrov. Then, against Wigan, Houllier shifted things around slightly, with Downing moving to the right flank and Nigel Reo-Coker and new signing Jean Makoun taking up the deeper midfield positions.

In the absence of Petrov for the victory over Wigan, Young captained the side and Houllier thinks this boosted his performance:

“He was good. I think he’s proud of being the captain, but when you’re the captain there’s more responsibility. I took him off just because first of all he’s given everything. Ashley is one of the players who covers more ground every game.”

Young’s position just behind Bent therefore seems cemented in Houllier’s plans and it is a role that brings out the best in the player; in his last two outings he has recorded 16 FPL points including a goal, an assist and 3 bonus points. With a current FPL valuation of £8.1 million he is certainly a luxurious asset but after Villa play Manchester United in Gameweek 25, their run of fixtures (FUL, blp, BLA, bol, WOL, eve) are all certainly winnable, especially those at home, and games in which you would expect Young to score highly.

Really? obviously im happy with Fabs but not sure about the Torres one, it was just the uncertainty of Torres and Nasri's prise drop that made me hit the button..

Had originally planned Nasri -> Dempsey, no hit..

been noticing alot of people extolling the virues of google chrome on here recently. For all you people with chrome..you do realise that google have access to EVERY SINGLE move you make on the internet, free of charge? How do you think alot of free sotware download sites are funded? Google pay them to bundle the chrome with it.

If you wanna basically have google knowing exactly what you visit, all the time, and have all your moves tracked thats fine. But me,i say go fu yourself massive corporation, firefox for me.

Well that's it, it was one of the rare occasions this season where the more obvious players did really well. The only sticker being for those who went for Rooney over Berbatov (I didn't thankfully). I got 106 so it wasn't too bad though.

My wildcard side at the moment is

          Szczesny, Howard
Samba , Rafael, Kelly, Coleman, Simpson
          Adam, Nani, Fabregas, Dempsey, VDV
          RVP, Odemwingie, Tevez

with the change of Dempsey to Young the next gameweek giving me 2 free transfers (probably man city players coming in) for the evil GW28

Do you really think it's worth having Dempsey for this week, stopping VDV playing in the process? Why not just start with Young and play VDV this week (obviously with Young on the bench)?

Assuming that no one gets injured, sent off, rested, killed, abducted etc. between now and then...

I'm no a huge fan of setting up a wildcard team where you 100% know that you'll have to make a transfer the week after, because it could lead to an unnecessary point hit further down the line.

Yeah true enough, bit of time to rethink. Sort of tempted to get Dzeko instead of Tevez now and then spread the cash around after hearing about his back injury.

I doubt that Tévez's back injury is at all serious... In fact, I doubt there even is a back injury. Mancini was probably just trying to save face after not playing him in today's pathetic display.

            Howard - Friedel. Amazing fixtures
Szczeny - Al Habsi? Friedel would play pretty much everyweek.
            Samba - Djourou.

The bonus for Everton (apart from a nice double fixture) is that I get to indulge my double madness with Howard and Coleman. Don't really fancy any of Villas defenders compared to Coleman.
Although Makoun might tighten them up as a unit resulting in more clean sheets.

Yeah that is the thing, i fancy Villa to turn a corner now and keep a few clean sheets, i dont trust Everton' defence at all this season. But they usually come on strong.

because city's defense is good, and their fixtures are good and his attacking potential. Just none of it has turned into points yet.

Hey superdorrans you around? Or anyone in the know for that matter. Is vela being signed solely to play in support of odemwingie or is he also likely to play as the main striker when odemwingie is in need of a rest? A rather difficult question to answer without actually being di matteo i understand. Its just i think i remember di matteo saying odemwingie 'faces burnout' but i also think vela may not be good/trusted enough to lead the line on his own.

I call it 'The Team 2 Beat'

      Foster

Apparently the bid spurs made for aguero is the exact amount required to trigger the release clause in his contract according to sky sports. How are atletico able to reject it if that is the case? Or do i misunderstand release clauses?

Need feedback. I was thinking of doign Torres -> Tevez for GW26. But with all this transfer talk, should I do it this week (GW25) itself ? Tonight is transfer deadline, so we will know before GW25 starts if Torres is playing home game against Stoke City.

1)count all your gameweek captain scores. divide each of them by the best possible captain score you could have had for the gameweek. add up all the numbers.

2)count bench scores and compare them to team score. do a cumulative for all the gameweeks.

or easier, get the razza script for fpl. in firefox, install greasemonkey if u dont already have it. then go here http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/34047 and click install ... restart firefox, go to team history and click where it says 'calculate captain...'

Couple of questions in my head that I would appreciate help with:

      1. Is Nasri=>Walcott a sound move through GW27 then picking up Cahill?
      2. Captain for this week: RVP, Nani, or Tevez?
      3. Sit out Samba or Coleman this week?
      4. If Adam gets transferred (IRL) would picking up Brunt be the best move, doubling him up with Wengie? If not whom?

        1. No, you would anyway have headache in GW28 when ARS, Spurs don't play. RVP + Fab is good enuf for Arsenal coverage. And Walcott might get rotated in the thick of games coming up.
        2. RVP
        3. Sit out Samba
        4. Dont double up on West Brom, If you have Wengie, good enuf.

          1. So who should I pick up? 8.1 would be the absolute max I can spend.
          4. If Adam moves on I would need to transfer him out. Who else would be out there?

It doesn't help Fabregas now that Nasri is out. In fact it probably does the opposite. The two of them combine a lot, and the likes of Arshavin or Rosicky can't pass as well. RVP is still the best choice really.

        Don't bench VdV.

We don't have a holding midfielder and can't defend to save our lives. Spurs will get at least two goals.
