The midweek Fantasy Premier League gameweek saw over 460 members cut down to 256 in readiness for this weekend’s first round proper of the Paddy Power Cup. With such a large proportion of entrants facing elimination, the cut-off score was relatively high. The magic number (after point hits of course) was 60.

Unsurprisingly, that’s seen plenty of casualties with names like marknlard (59), Anorak (53), JamsieP (58), Gargamel (59) and applebonkers (57) to few but a few, all biting the dust. Along with marknlard and Gargamel, a total of 29 managers all missed the grade by a single point.

The wooden spoon of the qualifying round goes to intuitif who netted an appalling score of 19 (not the best week to take a 36-point hit).

The site’s contributors have been slashed in representatives, with Andy (58), Big Dunc (56), Sir Paulos (59), johnfinlay (57), elfozzie (52), I’m Not Marshal Foch (51) and SUPERIOR BEING (43) all making a swift exit.

Despite all those exits, there are plenty of big names in the hat for round one, the draw for which will be announced in a few hours.

The prizes courtesy of Paddy Power for the competition are a free £150 bet for the winner, £75 for the runner-up and £50 for third place.

  Same dilemma, both very nice fixtures until the end of the season,but with VDV Nani Adam and Fabs being essential can only have one. I'd sneak Cahill ahead of Young, Young is a beast at home but Cahill is effective home and away.

    It's a rating from the greasemonkey script thing... this is a copy/paste description of how it works out ratings -
    
    Razzas rating tries to work out how well a player will do over the course of the season. It uses a few things to do this.
    
    First of all it uses last seasons points. If these points are 0 (the player wasn't listed last year because he was in a different league, or only just broken through) it guesses what the points might have been by taking the points per game so far this season and taking a value that works out to about 2/3 of the projected points for this season (assuming the player will play every game). If last years points were below 100 and above 0 it takes an average of last seasons points and the projected points for this season. If they were above 100 it just uses what they were.
    
    Second it then works out how many points the player is likely to score this season based on what they have scored this season and how far through the season we are.
    
    Third it takes the form of the player and works out a points value based on playing at that level for half a season.
    
    It adds all these together to come up with a value.

Do you think there is a problem here, that rather than use the players they have in an effective way, they keep buying more and more players to try and fit into the way they want to play?

It's all well having unlimited funds, but honestly, all the players who were good in other teams and not good at city seem to point to a certain tenacity of belief in a "system" and blaming your tools when the system doesn't work.

    +1 They need a midfielder who can time runs into the box and score 15 goals a season, like Gerrard or Lampard or Cesc. They're too relient on Tevez and usually when he doesn't do much, they don't win. This has been the case for this season and last season.

      We're a bit toothless in attack but still pretty strong defensively. Though if Williamson has another game like he did against Fulham you could spank us, he was aaaaaaaawful. Been good apart from that shocker though.

the overall leader has these numbers for captaincy choice and points on the bench : # (c)=96.5/222 43.4% Bench=182 11.8%. Thats pretty low score for captains choice.

      I was also suprised by the result, but I went here : http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/entryhist.mc?id=1399042 and pressed the "grab captain and bench info" button. I rechecked now and got the same result.

Anyone think this is getting little boring cos this extra wc?
I suppose 90 % of teams will have following players for gw 27:

foster
Djorue,
Fab, Vdv, Adam, Nani
Rvp,

We also have Kelly, Coleman and Tevez, some playing some benching.

Then there's another birmingham defender + bentley or brunt and odemwingie (playing) or berbatov (benching).

Then again, have to say that this would be really difficult without that extra wc so I'm not complaining after all...

I might be in the Malaga area on a stag weekend and was looking into catching a game. There doesn't look to be any Copa Del Rey matches either - is there a 2 week break?

      LOL I know that tortured feeling of trying to keep herself onside (I never tried to explain the offside rule to her 😉 ) while still sussing ot local internet availability on the QT.
      
      The worst ones for me were honeymoon in Mauritius and a holiday in Egypt. Both were all inclusive and the only time I could get to make changes was when I got herself drunk on free plonk and could sneak away (by which time I was well on it also) or when I woke up early with a monster hangover. Needless to say those transfers were not the best planned strategic moves I have ever made.

Foster - DGW coming up, but leaking goals and no game GW28

Friedel - Villa are looking better and he has good fixtures

Howard - Leaking goals, but good fixtures and a DGW, already have
Coleamn.

Gomes - Spurs have been tighter at the back, good fixtures, DGW, but might not play GW28.

      Yeah, I've got Foster also and obviously won't be getting rid, but Brum haven't looked the same at the back since Dann was injured. It affects Foster less as he is compensated with the save points, but you could consider Johnson or Carr as cover and still double up on Everton.
      
      Coleman is due a rest in one of these games and I wouldn't want to miss out on the Everton defence while their fixtures are nice. I might double up myself or just bring in Cahill for BPs.
