The midweek Fantasy Premier League gameweek saw over 460 members cut down to 256 in readiness for this weekend’s first round proper of the Paddy Power Cup. With such a large proportion of entrants facing elimination, the cut-off score was relatively high. The magic number (after point hits of course) was 60.

Unsurprisingly, that’s seen plenty of casualties with names like marknlard (59), Anorak (53), JamsieP (58), Gargamel (59) and applebonkers (57) to few but a few, all biting the dust. Along with marknlard and Gargamel, a total of 29 managers all missed the grade by a single point.

The wooden spoon of the qualifying round goes to intuitif who netted an appalling score of 19 (not the best week to take a 36-point hit).

The site’s contributors have been slashed in representatives, with Andy (58), Big Dunc (56), Sir Paulos (59), johnfinlay (57), elfozzie (52), I’m Not Marshal Foch (51) and SUPERIOR BEING (43) all making a swift exit.

Despite all those exits, there are plenty of big names in the hat for round one, the draw for which will be announced in a few hours.

The prizes courtesy of Paddy Power for the competition are a free £150 bet for the winner, £75 for the runner-up and £50 for third place.

If you’re not with Paddy Power yet, then you can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register and bet £10. (All offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions.)

Take out Hutton for R Johnson or leave defence as:
Coleman Kolarov Hutton (Kelly) (Jara) and hope that Hutton plays? Thanks

So if we assume rvp/tevez/berba/nani/fab/vdv are "essential" who then will you guys be dropping to accomdate Cahill for games 29-33 that look awfully tasty?

No he isn't. I brought him in last week but I'm probably going to get rid of him this week for Tevez. I'd rather have that scruffy Argentian.

I don't think anyone is essential. Having said that it would take a long term injury for me to drop VDV or Nani. I've dropped Berbatov, mainly to have Odemwingie for the double and to accomodate a strong midfield 5, including Cahill.

Wigan Birmingham Newcastle at home.. the rest of his fixtures till season end are horrible.. should i make the swap? for which of the 3? free transfer..

I meant Answer 2 in my name 😉 It's not been said for sure when they will decide, but even if they did decide it would be depending on Arsenal drawing in the cup on 19th Feb and replaying in the GW 28 slot that the Spurs game could be moved to.

haha no worries. My whole season has been one big fail, hence the name, so be wary taking advice from me. It's been my worst ever season in FPL.

From a FPL perspective, I think the 2 players are very similar, not much between them. If you want a definitive answer though, Walker probably slightly edges it for the reasons others have given (yellow cards, and Houllier bum love).

Thinking of downgrading Evra to Huth this week?

Think Wolves will score against Utd plus Evra is too expensive imo for what you get from him. Huth has a double and a nice game GW28, it's either this or Al-Habsi > Begovic?

Or I could take out Kelly for Huth and keep Evra for the time being?

I'd keep Kelly. I like the look of him and gets right down the wing quite well.

I wouldn't play him against Cole this weekend though.

Def downgrading Evra is a good idea.

Huth if you don't have Begovic.

Think I'll go with that then, obviously it's good to have a Utd defender but Evra just isn't worth it. Will have 4.4 to mess around with too, and Kelly is due a rise soon!

    rate my wildcard team:
    begovic/foster
    ridgewell/kolarov/huth/djourou/coleman
    fabregas/vdv/etherington/adam/brunt
    rvp/tevez/odemwingie

    + 1.8 milllion

    any feedback gratefully received

That seems fine then, only difference from mine is..

          Ridgewell > Kelly
          Huth > Walker
          Brunt > Nani
          Etherington> Young

well i just made two changes:

            begovic/foster
            CARR/kolarov/SHAWX/djourou/coleman
            fabregas/vdv/etherington/adam/brunt
            rvp/tevez/odemwingie

+3.6 milllion, that allows me to switch vdv for cahill and etherington for nani, however, doesn't leave any money spare
