The midweek Fantasy Premier League gameweek saw over 460 members cut down to 256 in readiness for this weekend’s first round proper of the Paddy Power Cup. With such a large proportion of entrants facing elimination, the cut-off score was relatively high. The magic number (after point hits of course) was 60.

Unsurprisingly, that’s seen plenty of casualties with names like marknlard (59), Anorak (53), JamsieP (58), Gargamel (59) and applebonkers (57) to few but a few, all biting the dust. Along with marknlard and Gargamel, a total of 29 managers all missed the grade by a single point.

The wooden spoon of the qualifying round goes to intuitif who netted an appalling score of 19 (not the best week to take a 36-point hit).

The site’s contributors have been slashed in representatives, with Andy (58), Big Dunc (56), Sir Paulos (59), johnfinlay (57), elfozzie (52), I’m Not Marshal Foch (51) and SUPERIOR BEING (43) all making a swift exit.

Despite all those exits, there are plenty of big names in the hat for round one, the draw for which will be announced in a few hours.

The prizes courtesy of Paddy Power for the competition are a free £150 bet for the winner, £75 for the runner-up and £50 for third place.

If you’re not with Paddy Power yet, then you can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register and bet £10. (All offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions.)

4 for me although once was a tie but 6000th odd now seems quite credible though. Always felt I got the captaincy choice wrong and wished the double points never counted, but then that is part of the fun. Add to that I've never had the benefit of an auto captain, so another irritating rule.

I'm at 46% - anyone lower? Last weeks was probably the most spectacular yet - every outfield player apart from one gained either a clean sheet, an assist or a goal. Guess who I chose as captain - step forward Mr Walcott. In my defence it is only the second time all season he has played 60+ minutes and gained only two points.

Now should I give him the opportunity to redeem himself this weekend.

As I said below, I'm on 44.7%. And I don't see how you can not captain Tevez this week (unless you need a differential). Newcastle away is not a nice fixture imo.

Nah, doubt it. Chesney's been really good and should keep his place.

It was funny how Almunia recovered from his "injury" as soon as Fabianski actually got injured.

Chesney's main problem when he first got into the team was his kicking, which doesn't seem to be a problem any more (he hit RVP and Bentnder with a fair amount of goal kicks on Tuesday night).

With the captaincy the higher the percentage the better. In the first link it explains the breakdown.

With the bench the lower the percentage the better. It measures the TOTAL points scored by your entire squad and the percentage of that total wasted on your bench.

Worth noting that it's not good having an extremely low bench % either, as those are the points you would get onto the pitch if some of your players had an unexpected illness or warm up injury etc.

Hey hang on you're wrong here Gargs - its done the calculation AFTER subs have come in, so any points left on the bench are redundant, so you do want it as low a percentage of your total as possible.

Yeah I know, but say one of your players missed out and you had 0% on your bench, then that would mean that you had 0 points on every place of your bench.

That's not optimal either, is it? I mean if I could choose I'd rather have my bench score some points than 0.

You can't really look at it in isolation though can you... if your 11 players all score 10 every week and your 4 bench players score 9 that's a crazy 33% but you are still scoring 110 week in week out.

I would expect that all teams near the top would have a reasonable bench % as they'd have strong squads. It would be interesting to look at this for the top 100 teams and see... maybe there would be a figure that would be a sensible average... 10-12% maybe?

Can anybody beat my 17.9% on the bench?

That's an embarrassing number to be honest. Almost all of it is wrong keeper choices and Newcastle players too. Can't believe how much I've missed out on Nolan, Carroll and J Enrique on my bench. Blah.

Nice, I checked it out and landed on:
            # (c)=164/283 57.9% Bench=213 15.5%

Not very impressive, I guess. Nice add on though!

Tevez at home to the Brom is hard to overlook as captain but he does have a lot of low scoring weeks. I'm tempted by Fab as you're almost guaranteed 5 pts +

Yeah same for me. I just logged in by chance a few minutes before it began, so I opened the ESPN page and wikipedia to be ready, and then I still missed an answer at first because I was stressed and only got my correct ones in 1 minute too late.

        Bit of an idiot, me.

Oh yeah, messed up the time difference again.

I look at all these starting times of football matches all day every week, 50% in English time and 50% in Swedish. Makes my head spin.

Will give it a go for Sagna as well then.

    Team for this week:

    Foster
    Samba Kolarov Rafael
    Fabregas Nani Adam Albrighton
    Suarez RVP Rooney

    SUBS: Jussi, Bardsley, Hangeland, Brunt

Have i got my team and subs right? Got nothing in the bank and WCing next week so after a short term punt, any ideas? What you reckon to any of these?

    1) Rooney to Tevez
    2) Hangeland to Coleman
    3) Fabregas to VDV, A Young, Cahill or Silva

Yeah could be worth it SD, bit of a risk like but for a one weeker it gives you Rooney away to shite Wolves, Tevez home to shite WBA and either Young or VdV for a good home game.

Yeah i think it might be worth it, especially if your boys can frustrate Arsenal. Fabregas will obviously come back into my team next week on the WC so maybe RVP may be enough for this week?
