The midweek Fantasy Premier League gameweek saw over 460 members cut down to 256 in readiness for this weekend’s first round proper of the Paddy Power Cup. With such a large proportion of entrants facing elimination, the cut-off score was relatively high. The magic number (after point hits of course) was 60.

Unsurprisingly, that’s seen plenty of casualties with names like marknlard (59), Anorak (53), JamsieP (58), Gargamel (59) and applebonkers (57) to few but a few, all biting the dust. Along with marknlard and Gargamel, a total of 29 managers all missed the grade by a single point.

The wooden spoon of the qualifying round goes to intuitif who netted an appalling score of 19 (not the best week to take a 36-point hit).

The site’s contributors have been slashed in representatives, with Andy (58), Big Dunc (56), Sir Paulos (59), johnfinlay (57), elfozzie (52), I’m Not Marshal Foch (51) and SUPERIOR BEING (43) all making a swift exit.

Despite all those exits, there are plenty of big names in the hat for round one, the draw for which will be announced in a few hours.

The prizes courtesy of Paddy Power for the competition are a free £150 bet for the winner, £75 for the runner-up and £50 for third place.

If you’re not with Paddy Power yet, then you can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register and bet £10. (All offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions.)

Akers Richard or Akers, as he is known, has been regularly haunting this site since July 2008. He is young and foolish, take what he says with a pinch of salt. Follow them on Twitter

    I have tried to find a way to leave Charlie Adam out of my wildcard plans for next week, but I can't do it. Even though Blackpool seem to be in freefall, he is still chipping in with more than his fair share of points. While their fixtures aren't great, they seem to score against anyone and have lots of home games in a few weeks time. No, Charlie-boy is a season keeper.

      If you're going to keep him he's only worth keeping if you can captain him. And with their fixtures I wouldn't captain him...and in turn he's on my bench, well if Cahill isn't a go, he'll play...but very reluctantly.

      I'd take that with a pinch of salt. He said ... 'Since the change, Everton have been playing better football, using short sharp passes. Their first game without Cahill was against Tottenham, with the Toffees coming away with a well-deserved victory. They are looking much better since Cahill has left. Coincidence? Perhaps.' ...Since then Draw,Draw,Loss

    all-time Premier League table
    1 Man Utd - 1548 points
    2 Arsenal - 1360
    3 Chelsea - 1311
    4 Liverpool - 1259
    5 Aston Villa - 1031
    6 Tottenham - 996

    No surprises there IMO. Villa looks pretty constituent BTW.

      1 Man Utd - 100
      2 Arsenal - 140
      3 Chelsea - 159
      4 Liverpool - 180
      5 Aston Villa - 232
      6 Tottenham - 262

      All this time and still only lost 100 games is incredible.

    Anyone looking for a midfield differential, the FPL pundit has pulled out another classic:

    Andy Reid
    The Irish trickster is just the type of player to revel under Ian Holloway's attack-at-all-costs tactics. Though never a regular starter at Sunderland or Spurs before that, Andy Reid possesses genuine magic in his boots and will surely get chances to create and score for the Tangerines. It's a worry that he's played just 14 minutes this season for the Black Cats and a watching brief is advised but Reid could just produce some late season magic.

    :@

        I think you're being a bit harsh on the scouts here (not trying to bumlick or owt honest).
        If I remember rightly the article was about the differentials from the transfer window. Andy Reid is primarily a play maker meaning much of the focus would run through him, he also takes set pieces etc. Not a bad shout at all, I won't be going for him as Charlie Adam is still there, and I think Blackpool have started their decline, but the scouts were still right to mention him as a risky diff.

              Was on the FPL pundit - a slightly less balanced look at Andy "magic in his boots" Reid than the FFS review that if I remember considered him and then pretty much discounted him on consideration.

    Don't feel right going into the gameweek without tevez

    Current team, with a punt on VDV captain

    Gordon
    Djourou,Vidic,Coleman
    VDV(C),Nani,Walcott,Malouda,Y Toure
    RVP,Berbatov
    Subs: Harper,Ivanovic,Odemwingie,Kelly

    If I have to get in Tevez, 8 point hit as follows
    Odemwingie--->Tevez
    Vidic---->Rafael
    Malouda--->Adam/Fellaini

    Stick with current? Or Tevez not worth all that.

    I knew it was the case, but had no idea of the scale.
    Top 6 all time Premier League foulers:

    2 George Boateng594
    3 Gareth Barry 556
    4 Emile Heskey 542
    5 Gavin McCann 522

      Bit misleading for Davies. He's not a dirty player, but his style often leads to free kicks being given against him. I bet most of those free kicks are from him backing into a CB while challenging for a goalkick. Same with Heskey.

        Absolutely. It is natural for forwards to take more risks with being heavy-handed as well, it is worth the risk of the odd free-kick in a non-threatening area if once in a while you get away with it and create a goal scoring opportunity.

      I threw out there that seing as he is Arsene's clear favourite and Barcelona are so formidable he might take 0% risk and bench him against Wolves at home a few days before. Along with maybe a couple of other players, but he's said he will rotate less now.

    Speaking of Bristol - the city - I see that a new Foyles Bookshop is opening there March 10th. You here, Soop?
