As we approach today’s 4 o’clock kick-off, our bookmaker friends at Paddy Power have sent over their own preview of a match laced with hype and anticipation, as Fernando Torres steps up to make his Chelsea debut against his former club.

Paddy Says…

Is it irony or tragedy that Liverpool should face their former hero so soon? Whatever the events that unfold during the game, there is going to be plenty of drama in the build-up thanks to the hullabaloo surrounding the recent transfers. The arrival of Luis Suarez for a pitiful £23 million was almost overlooked following Fernando Torres’ record move, but it has been the feisty Uruguayan who has been first out of the blocks with a debut goal in midweek win over Stoke.

While Torres will naturally be the focus of attention leading up to kick-off, theres a reason why he’s the joint favourite to score first with Didier Drogba at 4/1. The Ivorian has had the better of the Liverpool backline on many an occasion and it wouldn’t be entirely unexpected if Drogba were to steal centre stage.

After opening his account, Suarez shouldn’t be overlooked. Some may question the validity of his goalscoring record in the Dutch league but it can’t be totally dismissed. He’s shown at club and international level that he isn’t just a goalscorer; on top of his impressive scoring rate, he’s also proved to be an effective provider of opportunities too. If he doesn’t score first at 7/1 or anytime at 23/10, his workrate and creativity could still make him a key figure for the visitors.

Raul Meireles has been Liverpool’s star performer of late however, and has found a useful scoring touch with three in four games. He’s nicely priced at 16/1 to score first and 6/1 to score anytime. Team-mate Steven Gerrard is at 11/1 to score first, while Frank Lampard, back on the scoresheet at Sunderland in midweek, is at 6/1. Set-pieces or spot-kicks could be decisive today, so both offer decent value in a game which could well be decided by brilliance or controversy. You can get 3/1 on a penalty being scored.

With pace up front and quality goalscorers in midfield on show, both defences could be put under real pressure and a big yellow card count and perhaps the odd red, wouldn’t be a massive surprise. Clean sheets look unlikely and, although Liverpool have kept three consecutive shut-outs, they are 4/1 to extend that run.

Overall this is a tricky one to call, but at 4/1 Liverpool look the better value of two teams which are more evenly matched than perhaps odds suggest.

This Week’s Money Back Special

If the last goal in the match is scored by Torres for either side, Paddy Power will refund all losing 1st /last goalscorer, correct score & scorecast singles on the match.

Free £20 Bet for All New Accounts

If you’re new to this betting lark and new to Paddy Power then you can take up any of these odds and offers and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions.

    I like the new relationship fake twitter Lucas has developed between Soto and Carroll

    "I almost forgot. When we all welcomed Carroll- Soto went last, kissed him on the forehead & said "I dreamt about this day, noble Warrior'."

    "Carroll started to well up, "Father. I have returned" & they both did the sign of the cross. I understand they then both went Caber Tossing."

      Not really a 3 man defence Limpar.

      Rikkard only pushed up when in posession as did the fullbacks like a normal 4 at the back.

      When in defence it was a 4 3 3. Just rikarrd stepped up with possesion. Very different to liverpool today

      For the second one he crossed it, the ball clipped off a def then into another def's hand. Not sure what the rules are on that. It wasn't given as an assist originally, then got added, so I'd be surprised if it got taken off again.

    Off topic, What are peoples routines for making a nice cup of coffee at home. Me, I like to add the tiniest drop of milk to the coffee & sugar to give it a kinda gloppy consistency, I then shake the sh!t outta the milk to foam it up and add it in, finally I pour the water a bit above the cup which makes it that bit foamier. Works a treat 🙂

                  maybe he's been to about 10 games in that time but you didn't realise because they weren't on tv. that is the silly part of this debate. also brooklyn had an arsenal shirt so being a dad he must have thought i'll take my son to see his team instead of going half way up the country to see a team i have no connection with. beckham has just as much loyalty with arsenal having trained there last year or the year before. OR he thought "i could get on tv here, do i go all out and wear the mankini for maximum attention? hmmm"

            Its not a wind up.

            Yet another game ive seen Beckham shown live again for no reason.

            On the advertising , its brand beckham. and everything he is associated with.

            Its also naive to think he isnt partly there to get his face on tv to the millions around the world watching this game.

        He could do the Roy Keane at games,

        Hat, scarf coat and sit in the fans section.

        But that isnt why Beckham is there,

    Brought Malouda into my team a couple of weeks ago, need to get rid now! What does everyone think of this?

    Fabregas -> Lampard
    Malouda -> Walcott

    Any other suggestions welcomed. Also have VdV and might need to ship him out too.

          if he doesnt lose it it will be a disgrace. imagine a player one of your rivals owned got an assist due to mistaken identity, it would annoy the hell out of me. the points are zabaleta's

          Rafael, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra > Sagna, Squillaci, Koscielny, Clichy.

          Barca might beat us, but last season they (well, Messi) ripped you apart.
