Saturday may have seen the eight home teams scored 25 goals between them, but yesterday saw the two remaining hosts fire blanks. Fernando Torres’ Chelsea debut failed to live up to the hype as the Liverpool revival continues to gather speed, and Birmingham climb out of the drop zone with a crucial bottom-of-the-table win at Upton Park.

With Obafemi Martins still awaiting visa clearance, Alex McLeish named an unchanged side from the starting XI that drew at home with Man City in midweek, as Nikola Zigic partnered Cameron Jerome up front in a 4-4-2 for Birmingham. Martin Jiranek again stepped in at centre half alongside Roger Johnson (who grabbed the maximum 3 Bonus Points) and the Blues showed their steely side in picking up a vital 1-0 win. This was their first clean sheet in ten league games and will surely spark more transfers-in for Birmingham defensive options ahead of double game week 27, where they host (STK, NEW) at St Andrews.

Zigic was awarded 2 Bonus Points ans it seems he is finally starting to find his feet at Birmingham, though a look at his stats suggests any criticism has been a tad over-excessive. He has played 90 minutes on just 7 occasions for McLeish’s side and has returned 4 goals and 2 assists in those games. It seems that if Big Eck keeps him on the pitch, he’s likely to get amongst the points.

On the back of their 3-1 victory at Bloomfield Road, West Ham, understandably, came into the Upton Park encounter on a high. Following their Carling Cup semi final exit to the same opponents, this was a chance for vengeance for Avram Grant’s side and with five goals in their last two league games, the Hammers were a team on form, with Victor Obinna, in particular, looking full of goals. Both sides started the game in the bottom three but, try as they may, the home team couldn’t break down the Birmingham rearguard and despite their embarrassment of riches up front, West Ham remain firmly in a relegation dog-fight, as Avram Grant suffered a not-so-happy birthday.

The Hammers also have injury concerns following yesterday’s game. Both Robbie Keane and James Tomkins sustained calf problems and both have withdrawn from their respective squads for this week’s internationals. Tomkins was injured in the warm-up for the game, while Keane was forced off with his injury. Matt Upson is also crocked again – he had to be subbed in the second-half with an achilles tendonitis problem. All three will be doubts for West Ham’s now crucial trip to West Brom in Gameweek 27.

Liverpool clearly forgot to read the script at Stamford Bridge, as the 1-0 triumph stretched their winning run to four consecutive games. Kenny Dalglish welcomed back Jamie Carragher to the heart of the Reds’ defence and continued with the formation previewed in the recent home win over Stoke, which gives defensive solidity, with three central defenders flanked by two wing-backs. Liverpool have also picked up four clean sheets in a row, a sign of their recent resilience, and are only six points off the Champions League places now.

Raul Meireles once again found the net for Liverpool making it four goals in his last five appearances, and looks an altogether different prospect to the player he was under Roy Hodgson. Dalglish kept new boy Luis Suarez on the bench, with Dirk Kuyt toiling away up front on his own. Steven Gerrard grabbed the maximum 3 Bonus Points, with Carragher on 2 and Meireles on 1, making it 9 in his last 5 games.

Steven Gerrard picked up a groin injury in yesterday’s game and has been withdrawn from England’s squad for the friendly with Denmark on Wednesday. Right now, we’ve no reason to suspect that this is any more than a precaution but Gerrard must be considered a doubt for Liverpool’s home clash with Wigan in Gameweek 27 at this stage.

Chelsea’s diamond formation worked a treat at Sunderland in midweek but failed miserably against a resilient Liverpool, as the record-breaking week ended in something of an anti-climax for the champions. Nicolas Anelka played in the hole behind Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba but Chelsea lacked any real cohesiveness and there was no surprise when Torres was subbed not long after the hour mark.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side reverted to 4-3-3 upon Torrres’ departure and despite throwing on the likes of Florent Malouda and other new signing David Luiz, the Italian’s attempts were in vain. Like Liverpool, Chelsea came into this game having won three games on the trot but the acquisition of Torres looks like posing questions as to what the side’s ideal formation and personnel will be.

Played WC on Fri night and brought in Djorou...was all set to not make any transfers this week and to have 2 for GW 28! Now with VDV and Djorou out i think i might even need to take a hit, then there's a want in me to transfer Berbatov to Odemwingie...is this wise?

Exactly the same boat as me mate. Everything would have worked out perfectly, especially as doujrou scored. Injury jinx strikes again, well frustrating. Bout tenth time it's happended this season. Contemplating bringing in huth and walcott and taking a hit but that may be far too short sighted. Gonna sit tight and wait for more news

This is why it was worth holding on the WC unless you really needed to make 4 or 5 changes urgently. We haven't even gotten past the internationals yet. So wait on Walcott. Now prices may rise before Thurs/Fri but you're going to have to be patient.

I don't think he'll rise again before friday. Yeah I prob could have held the wild card but din't want to take a points hit gw28 and I'd have had to spend an extra 0.5m now to bring in the players I did so not regretting it. Just unlucky. Let's hope there's no more injuries this week!

Disagree. I played mine gw 24 for the first double. Not looked back since. I've earned so many points I'm happy to take hits for gw27. I planned for all three double game weeks and has payed off big time.

I meant having not used it for 24 and waited until 26 it was probably worth waiting the extra week, as you might need to make a transfer anyway and lose the 2 free ones.

Plus prices rising would have been less of a factor (though still part of the equation and that's why I said about bringing in 4 or 5).

It's been asked 1000 times and answered 900 times and the answer is always there is no definite answer yet.

Whatever the case both games can't be 100% confirmed to be or not be in GW 28 until after the FA Cup games in GW 27.

Yes I know Arsenal Spurs could at any moment declare the fixture re-arranged for some dat in April, but surely they'd have done that already unless they were waiting for the FA Cup to see if it was possible. I don't think they will suddenly announce something in this week other than to pencil it in for midweek 28.

I'm actually considering Doyle for this week as the cheap 3rd striker. I know he hasn't been prolific by any means but against Arse with their defensive problems and a leaky WBA he might be a good gamble, has a good future 28 also.

As for most of the people on here, GW27 with the following blanks in GW28 is causing problems.

    Team as follows:
    Begovis/Kingson
    Coleman, Vidic, Kelly, Walker, Hangeland
    Dempsey, Nzog, Fabs, VDV, Nani
    Rvp, Odemw, Tevez

    2 free transfers.

The choice im leaning towards would be:
    Hangeland - Roger J
    Nzog - Adam

Would ever consider a 4point hit to get in A Young/Cahill or even Bentley. Even considering geting out VDV because of injury and GW28 blank. Wouldn't really mind loosing value and transfering him in later.

    Any suggestions? Help appreciated!

Everyone seems to be going for huth that has a double coming up and a decent fixture in gw28.

But I suppose it depends on doubling up on a stoke keeper/def. You need Adam imo just to cover the fact that nearly everyone has him.

        How about:

Not too worried over a hit. Have a pretty solid lead on my rivals.

Would it be crazy to not "waste" a trsfr on a keeper that plays in gw 28 just to field 11 player(considering that Foster will always be my no1 keeper when Birm have games)?

Im thinking of rather getting in someone like Cahill for a midfielder that does not play in gw 28.

Im considering selling djourou & vdv for say huth/shawx(surely he WILL score this season?) and walcott(I can't beleive im considering him...)with my 2 free transfers.

Other option is to just get one of the 2 of them and rolling a trade for gw 28. Then i don't mind getting a keeper and say Cahill.

I just feel walcott could score some decent points this week and my 2 main rivals in mini league scr*wed me over this week as I had Fabregas and they had walcott + huth/kolarov.

Probably a bit stupid but I might just write off 28. I think it's stopping people from gettin teams they want for 27 but I think a very strong 27 side + poor 18 side will easily out score an average 27 side + good 28 side. I think if u spend points getting players out for 28 and then back in the week after I reckon overall people will be down on just riding out week 28 as loads of people will be without players for that week.

I think your right on that one. I'm going with a heavy GW28 side with 8/9 DGW's plus Kelly, VdV and Tevez/Nani.

As a result GW28 I will at default be able to name 10 players. It will be a very average side I put out and will probably go Fabs -> Cahill because my buy back and selling value for him with be pretty much the same.

aggressive expansion! Makes sense in principle, but when you factor in this crazy season so far, there is nothing to say, and hasn't in the past, that single GW players in GW27 won't outscore DGW players, happens all of the time.

I'm not necessarily saying to have 11 DGW players because your right a lot of single week players will out score the doublers but I think if people worry too much about week 28 they may miss out on a nice score in 27. Just a thought.

      Interesting analogy.

I guess the trick is to know how many dgw players will be enough to get a great score for 27 and then an average score for 28.

I'd be happy with having 8 DGW players and 11 gw 28 players, who are not even that bad for their fixtures.

My dgw players should do just aswell as people who have overloaded with 11 dgw players over the course of gw 27 and 28

1st/2nd March is where the FA Cup replay has to go. Otherwise no fixture. But do Arsenal voluntarily schedule Spurs 3 days after the cup final and before more Barcelona?

    Foster/

    Team for This week:

    Kelly, carr, bardsley (vidic, kolarov)
    adam, fabregas, vdv, nasri(nani)
    berba, tevez, DJ Campbell...

Plan is... Nasri ---> barton and berba ----> van persie (for free)

then week after bench vdv, fabs, van perse and do carr ---> coleman

hows it looking with no hits?

would anyone take a 4 point hit this week to do:

Actually, this place is surprisingly uncompetitive. It's rare that someone uses better rank to win an argument and if they do try then they usually get shouted down. Mini leagues are more important to most than overall rank. But lying about your rank never goes down well...

and as for the double wildcards.

I always thought that when you used a wildcard you only had one free transfer the following week - Even if you didn’t use one the week prior to it.

My cousin has just made three early transfers (to add to his 84 for the season the tool) but he has only lost 4points. Am I missing something here?! He made transfers in GW25 and used the WC in 26. Strange.

You only have his word that he's taken only 4 points. Was he looking at an old tab he hasn't refreshed sicne he made the 3rd transfer? I've been caught out by old tabs before.

well you will know when you see his history at the start of next week, but I still think there is no way it could only be 4 points deducted if he did make 3 transfers the week afer his WC, if you actually saw the "4 points will be deducted" bit, are you sure that he did WC last week and not the week before?

Yup. About 45mins ago. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for his update after the next deadline – They should take 8points off. But then again as they specifically said only 4 they should send him an email or something as it was their cock up. Frankly, I’m a tad shocked by it.

This is one of those weeks where a lot of people are going to get caught in the Double GW trap.
The only team really worthy of heavy investment is Arsenal imo.
I'll throw in a Birmingham defender and maybe Brunt but that will be about the extent of it. Prepare for GW28 I say

I reckon RJohnson could easily have 15-20 points this week. I already have Foster too so would be mad not to play him.

The rest of the doubles don't seem good prospects defensively imo, gonna go with Kelly and probably Coleman.

To be honest, I thought Terminator Salvation was pretty poor. The storyline doesn't make a lot of sense and it just struck me as a cash in. I expected better with Bale in it, but he was pretty rubbish as well.

Nowhere near as good as Inception, unfortunately.
