Saturday may have seen the eight home teams scored 25 goals between them, but yesterday saw the two remaining hosts fire blanks. Fernando Torres’ Chelsea debut failed to live up to the hype as the Liverpool revival continues to gather speed, and Birmingham climb out of the drop zone with a crucial bottom-of-the-table win at Upton Park.

With Obafemi Martins still awaiting visa clearance, Alex McLeish named an unchanged side from the starting XI that drew at home with Man City in midweek, as Nikola Zigic partnered Cameron Jerome up front in a 4-4-2 for Birmingham. Martin Jiranek again stepped in at centre half alongside Roger Johnson (who grabbed the maximum 3 Bonus Points) and the Blues showed their steely side in picking up a vital 1-0 win. This was their first clean sheet in ten league games and will surely spark more transfers-in for Birmingham defensive options ahead of double game week 27, where they host (STK, NEW) at St Andrews.

Zigic was awarded 2 Bonus Points ans it seems he is finally starting to find his feet at Birmingham, though a look at his stats suggests any criticism has been a tad over-excessive. He has played 90 minutes on just 7 occasions for McLeish’s side and has returned 4 goals and 2 assists in those games. It seems that if Big Eck keeps him on the pitch, he’s likely to get amongst the points.

On the back of their 3-1 victory at Bloomfield Road, West Ham, understandably, came into the Upton Park encounter on a high. Following their Carling Cup semi final exit to the same opponents, this was a chance for vengeance for Avram Grant’s side and with five goals in their last two league games, the Hammers were a team on form, with Victor Obinna, in particular, looking full of goals. Both sides started the game in the bottom three but, try as they may, the home team couldn’t break down the Birmingham rearguard and despite their embarrassment of riches up front, West Ham remain firmly in a relegation dog-fight, as Avram Grant suffered a not-so-happy birthday.

The Hammers also have injury concerns following yesterday’s game. Both Robbie Keane and James Tomkins sustained calf problems and both have withdrawn from their respective squads for this week’s internationals. Tomkins was injured in the warm-up for the game, while Keane was forced off with his injury. Matt Upson is also crocked again – he had to be subbed in the second-half with an achilles tendonitis problem. All three will be doubts for West Ham’s now crucial trip to West Brom in Gameweek 27.

Liverpool clearly forgot to read the script at Stamford Bridge, as the 1-0 triumph stretched their winning run to four consecutive games. Kenny Dalglish welcomed back Jamie Carragher to the heart of the Reds’ defence and continued with the formation previewed in the recent home win over Stoke, which gives defensive solidity, with three central defenders flanked by two wing-backs. Liverpool have also picked up four clean sheets in a row, a sign of their recent resilience, and are only six points off the Champions League places now.

Raul Meireles once again found the net for Liverpool making it four goals in his last five appearances, and looks an altogether different prospect to the player he was under Roy Hodgson. Dalglish kept new boy Luis Suarez on the bench, with Dirk Kuyt toiling away up front on his own. Steven Gerrard grabbed the maximum 3 Bonus Points, with Carragher on 2 and Meireles on 1, making it 9 in his last 5 games.

Steven Gerrard picked up a groin injury in yesterday’s game and has been withdrawn from England’s squad for the friendly with Denmark on Wednesday. Right now, we’ve no reason to suspect that this is any more than a precaution but Gerrard must be considered a doubt for Liverpool’s home clash with Wigan in Gameweek 27 at this stage.

Chelsea’s diamond formation worked a treat at Sunderland in midweek but failed miserably against a resilient Liverpool, as the record-breaking week ended in something of an anti-climax for the champions. Nicolas Anelka played in the hole behind Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba but Chelsea lacked any real cohesiveness and there was no surprise when Torres was subbed not long after the hour mark.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side reverted to 4-3-3 upon Torrres’ departure and despite throwing on the likes of Florent Malouda and other new signing David Luiz, the Italian’s attempts were in vain. Like Liverpool, Chelsea came into this game having won three games on the trot but the acquisition of Torres looks like posing questions as to what the side’s ideal formation and personnel will be.

So who are the genuine injuries for the weekend? VDV?

I'll lose 0.3 if I transfer out VDV and then buy him back in a few weeks i.e. 0.6 gain.

Current WC midfield is NZog, VDV, Dempsey, Adam, Nani

Anyone else worth getting in for 8.8 max? Meireles might get a 0.2 raise by the end of the week. 21% rise today and only lunchtime.

Cocoon: Regarding R Johnson, why do you think he's such a good bet? A rival has him, and I'm still bitter about him getting 3 bonus this week. That makes a gap of 10 points between me and him at the top of the league!

Because i think Brum are one of the better clean sheet prospects in the league, they have two cracking fixtures, followed by another good double in 29. And he does well in the bonus and is a good attacking prospect.

Out of all the doubles i think they have by far the best chance of two clean sheets

Scrap that. Can't do it, because that would add another missing player, and take away a transfer.

I'd end up with 2 missing players without hits as the fixtures stand.

Wondering what people thought of this team, wildcards already played.

    Foster, (Gordon)
    R.Johnson, Kelly, Rafael, Djourou, (Coleman)
    Brunt, Adam, Fabregas, (Nani), (Gamst)
    RVP, Tevez, Campbell

Thinking of taking a four point hit to bring in Bentley aswell instead of Gamst. Also anyone know the extent of Djourous injury.

Yes, the way to do it is buy players on the 1st day of the gameweek that are already due to rise based on the previous gameweek's transfers. Then wait until they get enough to rise this GW and you've made 0.1 profit.

Of course, you need to keep track of who is rising and if any players you want to get at the end of the week are rising in the mean time themselves. You could try it with Meireles who might rise tonight, bit late though.

I agree with the guy on the other page who is saying not to worry too much about week 28.

I'm gonna field 10 for it i think, not too fussed about doing that if it means nailing it 27. Of course it could go wrong in 27 in exactly the same way you're 10 man team in 28 could outscore everyone else. You play the potential.

I've backed alot of players with potentially a blank in 28 and i'm not gonna pick apart my long term plan for the sake of one extra person in gw28 who could easily get one point.

Then you have the possibility of Ars v Spurs going ahead anyway...

No need to worry that week imo.

Spurs/Arsenal isn't a fixture that would guarantee you points from the likes of Cesc, RVP etc. I'm sure you wouldn't want to play Foster/Johnson away at Chelsea either..

As long as you have Tevez, Everton coverage & Stoke coverage that week, you'll be fine imo.

I've started thinking it's not as likely since they have a choice and the option of taking a break in a run of 8 or so non-stop fixtures might appeal to them.

        Don't think so.

Surely they'll both play against Wolves after a break from internationals this week, then after Barcelona on the following Tuesday they have Leyton Orient in the FA Cup before the Stoke game, Wenger will surely rest them in that one..

That's good news i suppose. Gonna make the Fabs/RVP captain choice a kiler though. I imagine most will go RVP but i quite fancy Fabs, seems to me like a mega score is coming his way.

Probably a good thing that Newcastle grabbed a draw in the end in fantasy terms. Remember last year against Wolves anyway? He rested loads of players and it took a last minute winner from Bendtner.

I'm not sure, same as you, Van Persie is on form but I can feel a huge haul from Fabregas pretty soon. He was a god in the DGWs last year too.

    Playing WC this week.
    I'm wildcarding

    OPTION 1)
VDV > Meireles - worth doing?

I'm sitting on 0.6m gain with VDV but Meireles looks likely to go up 0.2m this week.

    OPTION 2)
    VDV > Walcott

I have RVP, Fabs & Sczency already hence would get rid of Sczency.

VDV transferred in by 1885 today, on 53% to a rise, hopefully news will be slow and he will make me an extra .1 before I ship him off for Cesc, who I think will be a great acquisition where he is not hitting his usual highs!

Am I the only one who think's that he might actually be back next week and play a part in both games of the double? There has been no quote from Redknapp that he'll miss out as of yet and maybe it was just a ploy to get him out of international duty? He didn't exactly look injured before he came off...

It's hard to know, I think where the League is a priority and where they want to proceed in Europe too it's hard to call, I had resigned myself to losing him, if he misses out this weekend Harry will hardly risk him 5 days before the Champions League, and where Spurs were 1-1 at half time in that one, they would surely have kept VDV on at all costs save where there was more than a niggle.

Who does everyone think will be our next manager?

I think we can rule out Allardyce cos of our style of play, Hodgson because we wouldn't stump up the money and probably Jol at this moment in time due to the same reasons as Woy although he is connected to the club.

I'm thinking it will be one of Chris Hughton, Derek McInnes or Appy. Hoping for Hughton tbh...

Is Woy all about the money? Surely he might want to prove a point in the Premier League after the shambolic mess he put Liverpool into?! I think even if he was available Chris Hughton would be a better choice and has shown he can do things with the limited funds he would get with the Albion.

Jol will be wanting a bigger club with more money to spend for sure.
If you want to survive, you should take Allardyce if he'll have you but it'll mean playing a very different style of football - which I don't think most of you could swallow, right?

I know, preferably I'd want Allardyce just to keep us up and then f*ck him off in the summer. I think all our fans would be pleased if we got him, he'd keep us up and shore us up at the back but I reckon fans would probably turn on him next season if the style of play was that bad.

You'd be surprised with Jol, he used to play for us and loves the club..
