Mick McCarthy’s side go into their double Gameweek fresh from shattering Man United’s unbeaten record with last weekend’s 2-1 victory at Molineux. That fine result and performance again demonstrated how Wolves have raised their game against the big sides this season, having already earned 1-0 wins over Chelsea and Liverpool. It’s against relegation rivals and mid-table mediocrity that Wolves have struggled; that’s the reason behind their lowly position in the table.

Despite confidence gleaned from the United win, Fantasy Managers are unlikely to give more than passing glance at what’s on offer from McCarthy’s squad. With a trip to the Emirates coming this weekend however, one can’t help but wonder if Wolves can capitilise on a fragile Arsenal defence, with Arsene Wenger’s side likely to have one eye on their Champions League with Barcelona four day’s later.

The daunting trip to North London is followed by a Black Country derby match against managerless rivals West Brom – a totally unpredictable scenario if ever there was one.

The Prospects

Wolves have the worst away record in the division with just a single win, 9 goals scored and 24 conceded. That makes pretty chilling reading going into two consecutive away matches.

Their one victory did however come against Liverpool at Anfield, a result that was surely a significant nail in Roy Hodgson’s coffin and a victory that Wolves will surely cling to as they approach the clash with the Gunners. Wolves have lost the four away trips that followed the Liverpool win, conceding 10 goals in the process. The omens don’t look good for the visit to Arsenal then, given that Wenger’s side have won 4 of their last 5 home matches and have averaged 2 goals a game in that spell.

Arsenal’s Champions League ambitions may well be a distraction and we could see rest and rotation in practice. Wenger could still field the likes of Nicklas Bendtner and Marouane Chamakh however – players who will be eager to impress and who will be expected to have the talent to inflict damage on a suspect Wolves back four.

The derby match with West Brom eight days on surely offers a better prospect. Goals look likely here, with the Baggies having scored 10 and conceded 10 in their previous 5 home matches. West Brom will face West Ham the week before and much will depend on their confidence following that encounter, plus of course, the impact of a new manager – should he be in place by February 20.

One factor to consider before losing total interest in Wolves as a prospect – they are one of three sides who follow their double fixture with a home match. Wolves will take on Blackpool at Molineux in Gameweek 28, a fixture that promises attacking returns for those brave enough to take the gamble.

The Likely Lads

Matt Jarvis has been Wolves’ biggest Fantasy earner this season, but his simmering form has completely wilted of late and his assist for George Elokobi’s goal against United was his first Fantasy points since Gameweek 15. A return to form? Maybe, butNenad Milijas looks the stronger goal threat from midfield. The Serbian international regularly contributes a couple of goal attempts a game, as our Members can see via their OPTA stats. He is also a major factor at direct free-kicks.

Kevin Doyle is as close as you get to a form player amongst McCarthy’s squad – his 2 goals and 4 Bonus Points in his last 4 league starts hints that, if anyone is to emerge from the double Gameweek with profit, it will be the Irishman. Whether Fantasy Managers will find room for the 5.0 investment up front is another matter entirely.

While potential looks limited going forward, defensively Wolves look a bleak prospect. Any investment in this area would need to hope for attacking points, and with Jody Craddock still sidelined through injury and Kevin Foley also fighting back to fitness, there’s no obvious candidate. Ronald Zubar has posed the biggest goal threat of late, although it was George Elokobi who proved decisive in the win over United.

Cheeky Punt

Jamie O’Hara has arrived at Molineux on loan and, although he’s short of match fitness, he chipped in with a goal attempt on target against United and 2 blocked efforts in a 58 minute appearance. With 2 goals, 4 assists and an impressive 25 Bonus Points to his name at Portsmouth last season, O’Hara has pedigree and could be a factor over the two games.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Did my wildcard on Saturday so have made a couple of 0.1′s here and there. Also been chopping and changing my team:

    Szczesny
    Kelly / Huth / Coleman
    Adam / Fabregas (c) / Lennon / Barton
    RVP / Odemwingie / Tevez

    Harper / Nani / Vidic / Kolarov

I’ve got 2.4 in the bank and not sure if I want to trade out Tevez for a doubler or keep him in. I’ve got 8 playing in the DGW.

Then in GW28, I’ll trade out Lennon for Cahill:

    Harper
    Vidic / Coleman / Kolarov / Kelly
    Adam / Nani / Cahill / Barton
    Tevez / Odemwingie

    Szczesny / Huth / RVP / Fabregas

Who did you make money on?

The only one so far for me is Kelly (I got Nolan on Sat night but he hasn't moved since so I shipped him out for Barton just before he rose last night).

You must have had Barton and Kelly from the start of this week?

Problem is, the two players that rose are both guys I'd keep so I've kind of given up on making any money this wildcard.

Arsenal's home match with Stoke City has been moved from Tuesday 22nd to Wednesday 23rd February, 7.45pm kick-off. This is due to Arsenal's participation in the FA Cup fifth round at Leyton Orient the preceding Sunday.

    Nice 🙂

Fulham's visit to Manchester City has been brought forward to Sunday 27th February at 3pm. The match has been moved from Monday 28th February because of City's possible participation in the FA Cup fifth round on Wednesday 2nd March.

And I think this mean that we should not be afraid of possible blank for City.

Apologies for the re post guys. I posted at the end of the last page.

Guys, hows this looking for DGW?

    Hart

    Huth/Djourou/Coleman

    Nani/Fabs(C)/Adam/Bentley

    Tevez/Berbs/DJ

    Subs: Rafael/VDV/Hangeland

Dont really like having Tevez and Berbs up front this GW tbh. Have .3 in the bank and x2 frees. Holding fire on the Djourou situ till we know more. Everyone else has RVP in my mini league and I’m concerned not having him this DGW is gonna hurt. Any thoughts?

Was thinking that even when fit (which might not be so soon) Djorou's position would be under constant threat from Squillaci and recovering Vermaelen. On the contrary, it seems that Kelly is firmly in the 11.

As for Torres - Tevez, I am not sure that one DGW for Torres is enough to average Tev' points in a long term.

On Djourou/Kelly I'd have said if fit Djourou is best defender in Wenger's mind at minute. When Verm. comes back may change but I'd address it then. Ars have much better fixtures than Liv for the run-in.

On Torres/Tevez, it's a toss up but don't see Tev doing too much this week, so maybe wait and see if his DG materialises in GW28 - Torres v Vidic again, could be fun.

All above is just my view, check out my team, it's not like I'm shooting the lights out...

I'd def do Torres > Tevez. Hold fire with Djourou until you hear more (thats what I'm doing) if he is injured for a while then Kelly or Walker wld be good alternatives. Villa have a nice run in.

      Kelly is incredibly good value.

If you are going for defensive ARS cover this dgw, I'd select Shezny. Two good home fixtures, great value at 4.5 and he rotates almost perfectly with Bergovic.

Also, you can bench him in 28, knowing that Bergovic has a nice home fixture. One for the season not just this dgw. 🙂

Anyone else thinking of getting Meireles in this GW?

I was thinking of shipping out VdV for Lennon , but Meireles, at home to Wigan, could easily score as much as Lennon does in his 2 games. And I wouldn't need to transfer Meireles out again in GW28.

I think there was a TOT dgw last year where Lennon got 36 and Defoe 40 pts if I remember rightly.

Cahill looks the one for 28 and the remainder of the season.

You could swap Rafael for Walker and save 1.8. Walker has the better fix.

VDV. Not happy with a bench sitter in dgwland. Would you consider Lennon?

Probably Defoe, but Odem offers you a starting spot for GW28.....which make the decision tougher.

Defoe defo offers more of a differential though, so really it all depends on your situation in your league.

Well, g28 has to be uppermost in our minds as well as this dgw.

I guess you could max up on 3 from ARS (one would have to be Shazney); 1 TOT and 1 BIR. So after 27, that leaves you with 4 benched non-playing players for 28. One of these will need to be transfered for Cahill in 28. That leaves you with 11 counters for 28.

If you add Barton and Adam, the sensible maximum no of dgwers would be 7. Just my take on the thing anyway. How do you see it for 27 and 28, Fuzzy?

Jafalad youve pretty much revealed my WC strategy when i activated it in GW25, 3 ARS incl. Szczesny, VDV and Carr. At that time, the general thinking was Foster and Djourou, I flipped the positions on coverage and saved cash in the process. Of course Djourou scores 7 and Szczesny got a whopping 0, but I wanted to make sure i was set for GW28 without a hit.

Felt confident about my team a few days ago, now I am not so sure.

Got an 70 point lead in my mini league now, so shouldn't be too worried about taking hits if I have too.

    Foster (Gordon)
    Djourou Huth ColeA Clark (Coleman)
    Nani VdV Nolan Adam (Dempsey)
    RvP Tevez (Berb)

Did Ferdinand > Huth this week already in anger that I didn't do the swap last week. Got 1 more free transfer that I'd like to save for next week ideally.

    1. Dempsey > Brunt?
    2. Nani, Tevez, Berb and Dempsey pick 2? I was thinking Nani and Tevez to cover bases. Generally if ManU score well, Nani does, and if ManC score, its Tevez.
    3. VdV start....?
    4. Djourou for someone else, 2m in bank?

    My current team:

    Foster, Al-Habsi
    Rafael, Huth, Coleman, Djourou, Kelly
Fabregas, Nani, Van der Vaart, Brunt, Adam
    Tevez, Berbatov, Van Persie.

    QUESTIONS:

    1. Is Berbatov now going back into another quiet period (esp as Man Utd have a tough run of fixtures now)? Do I swap him for Odemwingie, and free up some money at the same time?

    2. Is Fabregas now being overshadowed with the return of Walcott? Do I swap Fabregas for Walcott, and again free up some moeny for other positions?
