Mick McCarthy’s side go into their double Gameweek fresh from shattering Man United’s unbeaten record with last weekend’s 2-1 victory at Molineux. That fine result and performance again demonstrated how Wolves have raised their game against the big sides this season, having already earned 1-0 wins over Chelsea and Liverpool. It’s against relegation rivals and mid-table mediocrity that Wolves have struggled; that’s the reason behind their lowly position in the table.

Despite confidence gleaned from the United win, Fantasy Managers are unlikely to give more than passing glance at what’s on offer from McCarthy’s squad. With a trip to the Emirates coming this weekend however, one can’t help but wonder if Wolves can capitilise on a fragile Arsenal defence, with Arsene Wenger’s side likely to have one eye on their Champions League with Barcelona four day’s later.

The daunting trip to North London is followed by a Black Country derby match against managerless rivals West Brom – a totally unpredictable scenario if ever there was one.

The Prospects

Wolves have the worst away record in the division with just a single win, 9 goals scored and 24 conceded. That makes pretty chilling reading going into two consecutive away matches.

Their one victory did however come against Liverpool at Anfield, a result that was surely a significant nail in Roy Hodgson’s coffin and a victory that Wolves will surely cling to as they approach the clash with the Gunners. Wolves have lost the four away trips that followed the Liverpool win, conceding 10 goals in the process. The omens don’t look good for the visit to Arsenal then, given that Wenger’s side have won 4 of their last 5 home matches and have averaged 2 goals a game in that spell.

Arsenal’s Champions League ambitions may well be a distraction and we could see rest and rotation in practice. Wenger could still field the likes of Nicklas Bendtner and Marouane Chamakh however – players who will be eager to impress and who will be expected to have the talent to inflict damage on a suspect Wolves back four.

The derby match with West Brom eight days on surely offers a better prospect. Goals look likely here, with the Baggies having scored 10 and conceded 10 in their previous 5 home matches. West Brom will face West Ham the week before and much will depend on their confidence following that encounter, plus of course, the impact of a new manager – should he be in place by February 20.

One factor to consider before losing total interest in Wolves as a prospect – they are one of three sides who follow their double fixture with a home match. Wolves will take on Blackpool at Molineux in Gameweek 28, a fixture that promises attacking returns for those brave enough to take the gamble.

The Likely Lads

Matt Jarvis has been Wolves’ biggest Fantasy earner this season, but his simmering form has completely wilted of late and his assist for George Elokobi’s goal against United was his first Fantasy points since Gameweek 15. A return to form? Maybe, butNenad Milijas looks the stronger goal threat from midfield. The Serbian international regularly contributes a couple of goal attempts a game, as our Members can see via their OPTA stats. He is also a major factor at direct free-kicks.

Kevin Doyle is as close as you get to a form player amongst McCarthy’s squad – his 2 goals and 4 Bonus Points in his last 4 league starts hints that, if anyone is to emerge from the double Gameweek with profit, it will be the Irishman. Whether Fantasy Managers will find room for the 5.0 investment up front is another matter entirely.

While potential looks limited going forward, defensively Wolves look a bleak prospect. Any investment in this area would need to hope for attacking points, and with Jody Craddock still sidelined through injury and Kevin Foley also fighting back to fitness, there’s no obvious candidate. Ronald Zubar has posed the biggest goal threat of late, although it was George Elokobi who proved decisive in the win over United.

Cheeky Punt

Jamie O’Hara has arrived at Molineux on loan and, although he’s short of match fitness, he chipped in with a goal attempt on target against United and 2 blocked efforts in a 58 minute appearance. With 2 goals, 4 assists and an impressive 25 Bonus Points to his name at Portsmouth last season, O’Hara has pedigree and could be a factor over the two games.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Hey guys,

if you had to drop one from vdv, tevez and nani .. who would it be?

if vdv is injured it makes this question easier but id fancy rafa to score big at bloomfield road even he only plays the 2nd game.

tevez has a good scoring record against man u so far and nani is undroppable surely?

I've been stuck on transfers this week more than any other.

I usually have a 2 week plan that I mostly follow, but this week, there's a lot of variables.

    Djourou's fitness.
    Berbatov's replacement.
    International injuries.

Waiting to see team news Friday night or Saturday morning is probably the best thing to do.

For once, I think that's secondary at this stage.

The next 3 weeks are season defining considering the end of the 2nd wildcard.

Teams that come out of it having scored well and are set up for the season will take a big advantage forward.

It's tricky because there are loads of things that clash.

27 - Want Brum, Arsenal, West Brom, Stoke, Newcastle
        28 - Don't want Arsenal, Brum, Tottenham
        29 - Want Brum, Everton

Meanwhile, you're juggling United because of their poor fixtures. Most are looking for Berbatov replacements, but the options are all risky.

Bent - No double in GW 27, great fixtures after, pricy.
Odemwingie - Brilliant short term fixtures, poor form, bad long term fixtures.
Carew - Decent fixtures, untested form.
Best - Decent fixtures, patchy form.
Saha - Great fixtures, no double in 27, injury prone.

That's looking just 4 or 5 fixtures ahead. Nothing really stands out at all.

          Great tip...
But i personally think that Transfering Berb is not a risk...
He needs the formula of having home game+Rooney+weak opp
          Then only he scores great...
I am feed up with his inconsistency.,
I have done Berb to Rvp this week.

Saha looks the best bet for me. Everton's fixtures are irresistible. Also if you downgrade Berba to Saha, you could potentially upgrade a mid-priced mid to someone like Ashley Young.

            Keeping.

He might have a double GW 28.

If not, he's probably gone for Kolarov. I wouldn't want to replace him lightly for a double gameweeker. Especially since I'm already struggling to field XI GW 28.

          Hennessey >.<

Surely you can get a few 0.1s for Begovic.

Barton looks a better choice than Nolan with penalties now.

Rafael also is a bit iffy with his fixtures. I'd get R. Johnson. Worth keeping for at least the next 5 gameweeks where he'll have 2 double gameweeks and potentially one more.

Have money in the bank to replace Odemwingie. It's dangerous getting a player with for a really short term run, and you'll want to be able to fix your team up in case.

I actually think Hennessey's fixtures rotate much better with Foster's rather than Begovic's?

I know WOL have less chance of keeping a CS than Stoke but their fixtures stand out to me.

Odemwingie is only in the team for the double, have cash spare to ship him straight out.

              They don't.

Foster and Begovic rotate well for the rest of the season bar a 3 week blip where their home/away fixtures clash.

Fixtures aren't everything though. Stoke will surely do better defensively than Wolves.

These next few GWs really are a bollocks! I actually half wish i didn't have my WC as there's too much choice. Can't decide what to do with..
VDV - everyone's guessing about his injury, might be worth getting a dgw player in his stead and forgetting about value.
Adam - apparently on 9 yellows therefore 1 yellow away from a 2 match ban and i can't really afford to lose another GW28 player, not to mention he could miss the second of his dgw.

So after this GW27, I'll be stuck with Fabs, RvP, VdV and Djourou. I'll have to field 10 in GW28 without a transfer.

I'll be the first to say that Fabs is almost must have, but would it be crazy to sell him after this DGW? Probably for someone like Cahill and give me extra funds to upgrade Odem who will be useless after this week. Thoughts? Thx?
