Tonight’s Dugout Discussion action is sponsored by loneliness and/or being disenfranchised. While lovers up and down the country are going out for fancy meals, popping the question or buying that last minute bouquet at the petrol station, all we need to remember is we’ve got another game of football in store.

The lovers don’t have a monopoly on romance though, as the likes of David Luiz will be dressed to impress in his first start for Chelsea, while Steve Sidwell is on the prowl for more bait. Yossi Benayoun is left crying in the stands at his own Valentine loneliness, he’s also injured. Tonight’s full teams follow, the headline news is that Drogba is on the bench…

Fulham: Schwarzer; Baird, Hughes, Hangeland, Salcido; Duff, Murphy, Sidwell, Dempsey; Dembele, Johnson.

Chelsea: Cech; Ivanovic, Luiz, Terry, Cole; Essien, Ramires, Lampard; Malouda, Torres, Anelka

The Dugout Dicussion will be open as per usual for all of the evening’s action. Fingers crossed for a drab 1-1 own goal based affair and roll on the double Gameweek – starting tomorrow.

    Luiz is a dude.

Love defenders willing to bring the ball out and play it from the back, inevitably those kind of defenders give you the odd heart in mouth moment but it's worth it.

    Good hair too

One of the reasons I like Smalling is his abilty to do that, as well as his general calmness on the ball.

Don't want Messi AND Ronaldo, so I'll probably go for one or the other. Thinking of Robben too.

I don't mean money, i mean the odd give the ball away moment is worth it for a defender that plays out from the back.

The point is that if you hoof it clear straight away then you're not gonna give it away, i'd rather have defenders that build from the back and make things happen even if it means the odd slip up

i know this is early but i been thinking about next week.

    Hart/Al Habsi
    Huth, Vidic, Djourou, Coleman, Hughes
Bentley, VDV, Nani, Adam, A Young
    RVP, Berbatov, Odem

1 free transfer next week 3.2 in bank. If i downgrade VDV to a 5.7 or less million midfield i can have a front 3 of Tevez, Berba and RVP. Worth a 4pt hit for this week to set me up for rest of season? Only downside i can see so far is being forced to play hughes v man city.

i would keep vdv if i were you. there were many times where i was thinking of getting rid of him, then he'd score a goal or assist. and also, would u think about trading hughes for walker, and vidic for someone else. it's probably just me, but i have a hard time buying expensive defenders (as you can tell from my team, as luiz is the most expensive defensive player i have lol).

i'm having a hard time deciding what to do about my team in the long run. my team is:

    foster, al habsi
    djourou, kelly, coleman, huth, luiz
    adam, vdv, nani, fab, cahill
    odem, rvp, tevez
    1.4 in the bank

now the only plan i really have is to trade al habsi for begovic. then i'll have 1.2 left. and i really don't want to keep odem in the long run, but have no idea who i can get that i can afford. my other plan was to trade luiz for walker, huth for r johnson so i could free up funds to get maybe bent. but by the look of things, luiz seems like a solid player to keep, so i don't know what to do about him. i had everything planned until saha got injured, so what does everyone else think? should i free up some funds so i can get a better forward, or just play 4-4-2?

ya i just saw your post above. but i honestly think berba is done for the rest of the season, especially if rooney is starting to hit form. he'll obviously have a few goals/assists here and there, but i don't think he is the striker to have for the rest of the season. this is why i traded him last week. and i think having both tevez and vdv will be beneficial.

He's playing for a new team, been there just over a week - it takes time to get used to playing with players you've never played with before, he was on a poor run of form before he moved too.

He's had a game and a half, just over 100 minutes of football and you're writing him off - what did you expect, hattrick on his debut?

Utter nonsense. IF you think battering teams like that was just because they were easy games and not because Chelsea were absolutely rampant then you're having a laugh.

If they maintained that level of performance they would already have the title wrapped up by now.

You're doing the teams they played in the first few weeks a massive disservice by saying that imo.

TBH if you genuinely think it was just the opposition that was the reason they did so well at the start it's not even worth debating with you. Anyone who saw Chelsea in that run and isn't on a wind-up would agree.

Oh by the way, one of those teams that Chelsea beat 6-0 beat City 2-0, what does that say?

Chelsea started off in breathtaking form and then just nosedived. I had them as dead certs after those 6 weeks and don't think I was alone.

The Drogba and Malouda stat just highlights this, and I agree that the quality of the opposition is not the key part - more the form of the two players in question.

Do Fellaini and Luiz have some kind of deal on sharing that hair between themselves? What happens if they both have a 3pm match?

Well that's what I wonder. Once Alex is back, will be play him and Luiz CB? Surely he can't leave Terry on the bench all the time? So to me that lowers the fantasy appeal of all of them.

If he played every week then maybe, but surely there's too much scope for rotation, especially as Ancelotti experiments with how best to use him. And what about Alex coming back? Surely that will mix things up again.

I've talked much on here about how I think Ramires makes Chelsea tick and adds energy and drive to their midfield, but I think he's been a letdown today. Doesn't look like he wants the ball enough.

Defensively sound as always, but that's not the quality I primarily like in him.
