Everton put in a miserable shift at the Reebok, drawing scorn from manager David Moyes and casting doubt over the Fantasy interest that will escalate in their squad ahead of a double Gameweek. Foch’s Knee Jerk last night told the tale of Bolton’s 2-0 win but, with the dust settled, here are the Scout Notes on Sunday’s solitary fixture…

Owen Coyle kept the same starting XI that were unfortunate to slip to a narrow 2-1 defeat at White Hart Lane. That meant that Johan Elmander once again lined up on the right of midfield, as Daniel Sturridge looked to feed off of Kevin Davies up front. The partnership clicked again and Sturridge duly delivered his third Bolton goal in as many appearances. Elmander’s role is keeping Chung-Yong Lee on the bench – a problem for Coyle who watched as Lee came off the bench to spark the Sturridge goal.

That strike followed a first goal of the season for Gary Cahill who collected a double figure FPL return for the first time this term. Cahill and Bolton have now kept consecutive home clean sheets having shut-out Wolves in Gameweek 25.

Sturridge’s potential is somewhat tempered by the fact that Bolton now face three trips on the road in the next four at Newcastle, United and Birmingham. At just 5.2 in the FPL however, the Chelsea loanee is crying out as a third striker option now that the clamour for double Gameweek strikers has diminished.

Everton lined up without their Blackpool four-goal hero Louis Saha who has been sidelined for two-weeks with hamstring injury. David Moyes recalled Tim Cahill to the starting XI to compensate, the Aussie making his first start since his return from the Asia Cup. Jack Rodwell also missed out – he is sidelined for at least a month with a groin injury. Victory Anichebe also came in to the lead the attack then as Moyes went with a 4-5-1. John Heitinga continued in defence as Phil Jagielka again had to be content with a place on the bench.

David Moyes rated Sunday’s performance as amongst the worst is his reign as manager. An alarming state of affairs given his side’s comeback against Blackbpool at Goodison just over a week ago. Everton missed the quality of Saha up front, but also appeared to lack the appetite for a battle and Bolton outfought them in all areas across the pitch. For Fantasy Managers the nature of the defeat casts doubt over Everton’s assets at a time when their potential looks strong with four home matches in the next five, including their Gameweek 29 double fixture (SUN new&BIR FUL AVL)

Regardless of Everton’s performance and the fact that he missed a gilt-edged opportunity to earn his side a foothold, Tim Cahill will remain a key transfer target. The Aussie alternated with Mikel Arteta in the support role for Anichebe up front for the early part of the game, before Moyes pushed Cahill further forward to chase an equaliser. Cahill’s goalscoring instincts will be expected to come good, particularly with Everton facing a run of consecutive home matches.

Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman were picked out in Foch’s Knee Jerk last night and will also remain at the forefront of our thinking. Defensively however, we shouldn’t expect too much – Everton have kept just a single clean sheet in their last 18 games – that came against Wigan back in Gameweek 17. Baines was the one player to emerge from yesterday’s showing with any credit for Everton – his supply from the left was a threat and he, like Cahill, will be expected to come out of Everton’s run of opponents with some profit. At 7.5 however, Baines looks an expensive option, particularly with Coleman offering promise from his right-wing role for a fee of 5.2.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I remember reading an article in WSC about why football films don't work, and that's because to come up with that story as a work of fiction would be too contrived. You'd expect it to happen as you need a happy ending, and this is so farfetched that you'd leave feeling shortchanged. But that this DID happen makes it so incredible.

It's almost a shame that it wasn't Rivaldo's last game; that's a difference between films and reality, reality goes on and doesn't end on a high.

Good point. The fact that Barca then went through a desperate period in their history also highlights the difference between reality and fiction.

So who would ye choose as for next 2 weeks at least, maybe longer for first 2 guys:

I mean i am considering Cahill but i'd have to take out Walcott for him, despite having Cesc and RVP i still fancy Walcott to score more than Cahill over the next 5 or 6 weeks, despite playing 2 games less. Would probably go AYoung at this point over Cahill too.

Baines is tempting but i'd rather not double up on a pretty shaky defence.

Wigan vs Utd on no matter what.

Chelsea vs Utd requires Chelsea to lose to Everton in the FA cup or it's off (so no DGW for Utd).

Arsenal, Birmingham and Spurs all miss out, there was talk of Arsenal Spurs slotting into GW28 but that ship has sailed IMO.

I think we'll build our team around Dorrans, he was brilliant against West Ham playing in a free role, which is what a player of his quality is supposed to have.

Woy built his team around Danny Murphy and a big target man at Fulham, so maybe Fortune could be a key player from now one too.

Well Woy obviously will play 442, that's his formation. Odemwingie is nailed on, but he likes a target man, look at what he turned Zamora into at Fulham. From a donkey into a decent player.

Although the signs over the last 3 years have been that Miller will never become a target man, he is big and stocky and does have the potential under Woy.

My best is on Odem & Fortune up top, which is all good although Odem does get more goals up front on his own.

Was pretty confident of fielding a decent team in GW28, but after last weekend I face severe defensive worries...

    Bego (Szcz)
    Coleman Kolarov Rafael Walker (Carr)
    Nani Adam Young Fabregas (VdV)
    Tevez Odem (RVP)
    0.2 + 2 freebies.

Will probably do Fabs>Cahill as my first transfer.
Rafael didn't play and Kolarov + Coleman got only around 60min.

A.Shall I play those 4 defenders + Begovic and keep my 2nd transfer
B.Transfer out one defender, probably Rafael.

    Dear Gods of Fate,

    Option A
VDV plays versus Blackpool and has a stormer scoring >10points.

    Option B
VDV does not play at all v Blackpool for whatever reason (at the moment I'm plumping for sudden onset of a flesh eating virus) and I don't have to curse my decision to have Nani as 1st sub.

Either of these will do. Cheers!

Chelsea will have a couple of DGWs at some point, might be an idea to save your wildcard til then.

I'd sell Stockdale (not first choice at Fulham, he'll be lucky to play again this season) rather than Foster (double GW in 29 after his blank in 28 - although if you're getting Howard in you might play him instead in 29).

You considered but didn't? If so, nice call.

I thought about benching Nani also and playing Tevez whole week.
In Thursday I've changed my mine. I checked the betting odds for scoring and especially for a CS. They were in Utd favor. Next time try with the bookies they know a lot trust me ;).
Also I chalk boarded Tevez and City in all the derbies, have done the same with Nani and the result was obvious. Average position in the heat maps for Tevez in the derby games was not suited for a striker IMO. He was so deep. Nani's form at home was also a factor, but the most important for me was one comment from one lad, I don' remember who said depends who do u want to win?

So in Thursday I've made my final call: I want Utd to loose and there is nothing worse that the team that u want to loose is wining and their player is making the fantasy points on your bench.

      Hope it helps,
      Cheers,

I'm dropping him for GW28 as I'll sell him at 11.9 and I can buy back at 12.0 (or maybe even 11.9) so makes sense for him to give way. Cahill will stay and I'll drop another MF to bring back Fab.

You can make your points anyway. this debate has been around several times, and general consensus is that Lloris isn't good enough in the air. There's nothing wrong with his shot-stopping, but he's not so good on crosses.

Akinfeev? Classic case of football manager syndrome here. He's overrated.

I've seen him play quite a few times. Great shot stopper but he has no presence or command of his area.

Cahill did not impress me at all but now I am here wondering who to sell to get him in for the double, surely it is going to be VDV or Cesc since they don't have any games next gw. I see cesc as an easy option because I won't lose value to get him back but VDV injury problems concern me and the fact that he is on pens make it hard to sell him so should I go

    Cesc to Cahill
    or
    VDV to Cahill
    and why?

I'm doing Fabs to Cahill this week, then J. Thomas to Fabs GW29. I'd lose far too much on VDV (and I definitely want him as Spurs cover), and although he has had a few injury scares, he hasn't actually missed many games.

VDV may drop a further £0.2m by the next time he plays though.

True, but I can afford to do my plan with about 0.2 spare, so if I sold VDV I'd have too much faffing about to get him back.

It going ahead is dependent on Everton beating Chelsea in the cup.
Wait and see would be the best advice.

OK lads different topic. RMUCL team. I was in top 40 this year once 🙂 beautiful memories but this year with 5 mil less in the 8finals it is not easy. Here is my squad.

    Cech (Guaita)

    Ivanovic, Heinze, Srna, Marcelo, Ottesen

    Nani, Robben, Ribery, Mata, Teixeira

Messi Ibra, Jurado 0.0m in the bank.

    Cheers,

Yes check the rules surely there will be 4 captain choices. I know I am to reliant on Bayern but they are flying at the moment, no chance for league so they will concentrate on CL. I see them going to the final. This is not team for only one GW its for the whole 8finals. So be it I know its a risk but Roben is my surprise and differential. I know what he is capable of doing and very few teams will have him. Are we positive on Man utd defender? I see them conceding from Marseile honestly.

i agree with you that they will concentrate on CL more but isn't robben is enough cover...he is a good differential and played well and scored a couple this weekend...u should get rid of ribery...and bayern struggles away from home and inter are playing well now under leonardo...

i would get a utd defender...our defence do well in champs lg like we did against valencia which was our best defensive performance of the season...

        Here u go Boom

        Manager substitutions

After all matches on a single day have finished and before the next matches start, you can:

1: Replace any player who wasn't sent off, with one from your bench whose team is yet to play.

2: Change your captain if he wasn't sent off, with a player from your squad whose team is yet to play.

Players who are substituted out will score 0 points, the captain bonus will be lost from your original captain if a new captain is selected. Substitutions and captain changes can't be cancelled once confirmed.

An unlimited number of manager substitutions can be made, however, it is not possible to make manager substitutions after games on the last day of the Matchday, as all fixtures will have been completed.

Hansen said the other night that Wilshere was "too good" to play the holding role.

Okay Hansen, try tell Claude Makelele he was only a holding midfielder because he wasn't good enough to play elsewhere.
