Everton put in a miserable shift at the Reebok, drawing scorn from manager David Moyes and casting doubt over the Fantasy interest that will escalate in their squad ahead of a double Gameweek. Foch’s Knee Jerk last night told the tale of Bolton’s 2-0 win but, with the dust settled, here are the Scout Notes on Sunday’s solitary fixture…

Owen Coyle kept the same starting XI that were unfortunate to slip to a narrow 2-1 defeat at White Hart Lane. That meant that Johan Elmander once again lined up on the right of midfield, as Daniel Sturridge looked to feed off of Kevin Davies up front. The partnership clicked again and Sturridge duly delivered his third Bolton goal in as many appearances. Elmander’s role is keeping Chung-Yong Lee on the bench – a problem for Coyle who watched as Lee came off the bench to spark the Sturridge goal.

That strike followed a first goal of the season for Gary Cahill who collected a double figure FPL return for the first time this term. Cahill and Bolton have now kept consecutive home clean sheets having shut-out Wolves in Gameweek 25.

Sturridge’s potential is somewhat tempered by the fact that Bolton now face three trips on the road in the next four at Newcastle, United and Birmingham. At just 5.2 in the FPL however, the Chelsea loanee is crying out as a third striker option now that the clamour for double Gameweek strikers has diminished.

Everton lined up without their Blackpool four-goal hero Louis Saha who has been sidelined for two-weeks with hamstring injury. David Moyes recalled Tim Cahill to the starting XI to compensate, the Aussie making his first start since his return from the Asia Cup. Jack Rodwell also missed out – he is sidelined for at least a month with a groin injury. Victory Anichebe also came in to the lead the attack then as Moyes went with a 4-5-1. John Heitinga continued in defence as Phil Jagielka again had to be content with a place on the bench.

David Moyes rated Sunday’s performance as amongst the worst is his reign as manager. An alarming state of affairs given his side’s comeback against Blackbpool at Goodison just over a week ago. Everton missed the quality of Saha up front, but also appeared to lack the appetite for a battle and Bolton outfought them in all areas across the pitch. For Fantasy Managers the nature of the defeat casts doubt over Everton’s assets at a time when their potential looks strong with four home matches in the next five, including their Gameweek 29 double fixture (SUN new&BIR FUL AVL)

Regardless of Everton’s performance and the fact that he missed a gilt-edged opportunity to earn his side a foothold, Tim Cahill will remain a key transfer target. The Aussie alternated with Mikel Arteta in the support role for Anichebe up front for the early part of the game, before Moyes pushed Cahill further forward to chase an equaliser. Cahill’s goalscoring instincts will be expected to come good, particularly with Everton facing a run of consecutive home matches.

Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman were picked out in Foch’s Knee Jerk last night and will also remain at the forefront of our thinking. Defensively however, we shouldn’t expect too much – Everton have kept just a single clean sheet in their last 18 games – that came against Wigan back in Gameweek 17. Baines was the one player to emerge from yesterday’s showing with any credit for Everton – his supply from the left was a threat and he, like Cahill, will be expected to come out of Everton’s run of opponents with some profit. At 7.5 however, Baines looks an expensive option, particularly with Coleman offering promise from his right-wing role for a fee of 5.2.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I was moved to hear that our own Ronaldo will not play more proffessional football. The best brazilian striker in modern football, there is not much to say really, the stats and achivements speaks for themselves.
But I was always angry about all the critical voices about his private life and lack of fitness, especially in the national press. Ok, he made some wrong steps, gained some kilos and enjoyed his life, but from being a shy boy playing his football in the shanty town streets of Nothing Hill, to being top of the world, in just a few years, is a gap that any young mind would struggle to cope with. He managed his new life better than many others, and he kept banging in the goals wherever he was, wether he was hailed and worshipped or branded a fat overpaid flop, he just kept scoring goals. And that is how I will remember him.

Always loved, always my number one footballer. Rest your boots in peace Ronaldo

    Guys,

Bearing in mind I can theroetically only have 10 players max on the field for the forthcoming GW28...and with VDV injured (his value will only go down).

I'm thinking an 8pt hit for the upcoming week!!! This will leave me with exactly 0 in the bank...I know it's early but I may miss the boat otherwise....they will rise/fall to much!!!

    Djourou replaced by Kolarov
Van der Vaart replaced by Meireles
    Odemwingie replaced by Tevez

Wait and see what happens before making any decisions.

Personally, in a week when there are going to be many in the same boat, i am not sure that an 8 point hit is the way forward.

Getting in Tevez would be my prioty.

Van Basten gets my vote. The big downside is that it's an unimportant goal but the big upside is how well he hits the ball. My second is Sinclair, for the same reason.

Mark Huges...my 2nd favourite goal of all time! Although not seen it for about 10 years so may not be as good as I remember.

Rivaldo by a country mile for me.

Taking nothing away from Rooney's, but Rivaldo had to set it up himself and then execute. Which he did perfectly. Added to the significance of the goal, it's clear winner in my mind.

After the weekend do people think Kolarov is still nailed on up front in City's new formation, after SWP impressed when he came on for him? Dzeko and Balotelli must be close to starting with Tevez in a 2 up front any game now as well surely? Where would that leave Kolarov - I don't think Mancini trusts him at left back.

    Fabs out, Cahill in.

Smart to get him now? have to get rid of a blank, cahill extremely likely to rise a 2nd time before deadline.

Dumb to get him now? Cahill get injured, wasted transfer. Too much can happen in 11 days.

Dumb move IMO. Yes he will go up but hey as most now its not about the money anymore. With so long anything can happen in training etc...

I will be doing same transfer but waiting till day before next GW.

Huth maybe? I would say Rafael but I think he's at £5.7m. Kolarov is the same and it is always difficult to know whether he will play on wing or in defence.

Of course at the mo R Johnson might be worth it with the other DGW coming up.

Am looking forward to the next round of the Champion's League.
    RMT please:
    Casillas - Guaita
Thiago Silva - Vidić - Arbeloa - Ivanović - Djourou
Pablo Hernández - Schweinsteiger - Stepanenko - Nani - Xavi Hernández
Gomez - Ibrahimović - Cristiano Ronaldo

Am tipping Milan to pip Tottenham this round. Thiago Silva will be playing OOP as a midfielder. Am tipping Valencia to win easily at home over Schalke. Chelsea should easily see of Copenhagen in both rounds. Real should demolish Lyon (with CR9 as the ideal captain on the second-last day). Man U should walk all over Marseille.

Would get Smalling if Man U weren't playing on the last day. Wish I could fit in Messi and CR9. Any golden insights to add to these? Any obvious bargains I've missed?

Djourou as insurance in case Arsenal have a good game. And he's underpriced. Can't find a better option for the price (have 0.1 left in the bank).

there will always be better options than a defender against barca though. I don't think they ever go a game without scoring.

Am tempted by a Roma defender instead, though am a touch short on cash. And you're right that Barcelona have been phenomenal at scoring recently, though I'm also expecting a rough, somewhat dirty game against Arsenal. Maybe even a sending off or two. Djourou is a big gamble; my worst selection, I think.

          my advice/strategy...

go heavy on players playing in the 1st day because at least you can confirm that they are playing before deadline

play lots of cheap defenders...if they don't keep a clean swap them for offensive players playing later...you can play with as little as 2 defenders I think...if you can nick 2 lucky clean sheets that's all you need

have 1 good Capt option for each day so you can cycle through them...one of 4 is bound to get some points

That's great advice. Is essential to play rotating captains with a strong view to fixtures. My captains work out to be Ibrahimović - Xavi - Ronaldo - Nani. Am hoping at least one of them comes good. I'm taking the chance of getting some slightly pricier defenders from good teams that will make it through to the final rounds, in the hope that I get points and gain from price increases without needing to do transfers out. Your strategy may be better -- front loading. Last year was top 1000 and am hoping to better that this year. We'll see!!

yes, the Fantasy CL this year is more like the Fantasy WC this summer...sub out players/Capt each day for big guns waiting on the bench...I'm at 1400 now so it's working pretty well

Yeah, it is like the summer WC game. This year there are more prices rises in the Champion's League game and there's less money to splash around. Could make it very interesting if the fancied teams make it through to the final rounds. Your strategy is obviously working out. I hope it comes good for you tomorrow.

DMCQT- found this in setting up my team, don't remember the source but it's mainstream and current
"while Taras Stepanenko is a doubt because of a knee injury"

I just don't know if Smalling will start or I would take him as my "cheap defender". Cheap defender has to start and get lucky.
