Arsenalโ€™s stunning victory over Barcelona saw Robin Van Persie continue his unstoppable scoring streak, while Samir Nasri sparkled on his return from injury but was still overshadowed by the emerging Jack Wilshere โ€“ if only he could start fetching Fantasy points to match his performances.

Elsewhere, just over 7000 unfortunates witnessed Wiganโ€™s reserves get dumped out of the FA Cup by Boltonโ€™s second string striker on a battlefield of a pitch. The glamour of the FA Cup put nicely into perspective.

Hereโ€™s the notes from last nightโ€™s footballโ€ฆ

While Arsenalโ€™s 2-1 win reaffirmed their current form, in Fantasy terms it carried little significance other than alerting us to the fact that Arsenal will now go into an extremely competitive second-leg in Spain.

That tie follows the Gameweek 29 fixture with Sunderland and we must now be aware of the rotation implications around that match. Wenger has shown to this point that the league has remained a major priority, even over ambitions in Europe but, having gained a foothold against Barcelona, there will surely be the temptation to preserve key individuals for the return leg.

Samir Nasriโ€™s return from a hamstring injury immediately puts him back on our radars as an option in midfield. Nasri lined up on the Gunners left-flank with Andrey Arshavin relegated to the bench. The Frenchman immediately demonstrated flashes of his pre-injury form, providing a smart assist as Arshavin came off the bench to fire the winner. Nasri will be backed to start returning points once league action resumes.

Nasriโ€™s return is timely given the rather muted form of Cesc Fabregas and considering that Arsenalโ€™s assets, including Fabregas, are likely to be sold in big numbers as we approach their blank fixture in Gameweek 28. Nasri could well benefit from heavy investment following this, if the midfield step down from Fabregas to the Frenchman becomes a popular strategy for Gameweek 29 onwards.

Arsenal now go into their second fixture of Gameweek 27 against Stoke next Wednesday, once they have made the trip to Orient in the FA Cup on Sunday. Rotation at the weekend looks inevitable but it will be interesting to see if any of this carries over to Wednesday’s league fixture – it seems unlikely. Sunday’s lineup will give us better indication as to Wenger’s starting XI for the visit of Stoke.

Over in the FA Cup, Ivan Klasnic did his best to offer a reminder of his existence to Owen Coyle by scoring the winner in the fourth round replay at Wigan. The Croatian has slipped further down the pecking order at the Reebok following the arrival of Daniel Sturridge, but may at least have given himself further opportunities for starts by steering Bolton into the fifth round โ€“ Bolton now go to Fulham on Sunday.

Klasnic was part of a shuffled Bolton lineup that saw the likes of Adam Bogdan, Fabrice Muamba, Martin Petrov also earn starts. Chung-Yong Lee made a return to the starting lineup having been left on the bench against Everton.

Boltonโ€™s victory was marred by a setback for full-back Sam Ricketts who sustained an Achilles injury and was stretchered from the field. The early prognosis indicates that his season could be over. Owen Coyle certainly sounded pessimistic in his post-match commentsโ€ฆ

“Sam’s damaged his Achilles and it doesn’t look great. It could be quite severe and we hope that’s not the scenario but it looks like it will be a lengthy period of time.”

This latest setback for Bolton arrives off the back of Zat Knightโ€™s knee injury which leaves him sidelined for around six weeks. Boltonโ€™s defensive resources now looked stretched then. Nonetheless, David Wheater looked accomplished in the Bolton back four last night and Coyleโ€™s side earned their third clean sheet in the last four matches.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez made no less than nine changes to the lineup that came away with a point from Anfield at the weekend. Wigan is an unreliable source of Fantasy talent at the best of times but, with some many changes on show, there really was little of any significance for Fantasy Managers here.

The DW Stadium surface was perhaps the only factor of note. A major problem on the night, Martinez complained that his side could not put โ€œthree or four passes togetherโ€ as a result of the uneven pitch. Significantly perhaps, Man United are next to visit Wigan on February 26 and the club are due to relay the pitch in time for that match. The playing surface could well be a factor in Gameweek 28 then.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

ZZzzzz. We all know there is still a long way to go, but we have a right to be happy about the performance last night. Not many gave us a chance of beating them, especially at Half Time. Jealousy is not a good trait!

I'll bite because it was clearly a tasty fishing line in my direction. "A paltry 5 goals in 17 appearances is not good enough for a player of his calibre." How about 5 goals and 10 assists?

Fabregas has 3 goals and 10 assists and considering they are playing basically the same position (as Rooney is so deep this year) is he not underachieving too? Or does the fact he isn't playing anything like last years position as the target man in a front 3 mean zero diddly squat? Just curious to the rules here.

You are judging him on last years goals correct? He isn't playing last years position? It's funny when i produce some stats or some rational thinking behind why there is this massive change in his performances (assists not goals) i'm accused of being deranged. OK.

Good to see Tiote riding high in the overrated votes too. If loads of people on a blog say so, It must be true eh?

You really are go so far down this rooney road its incredible.

Literally every single unbiased reporter in every paper , blog, twitter , agrees Rooney isnt playing at this best. Now where near it.

And you think its to do with positions.

I wonder how come Rooney did so well last year so in all the games he and Berbatov played together in the same bloody position as this year when they were paired.

And as he was in 2007 - 08 with Ron and Tevez.

The Tiote thing is just silly, and people voting there are equivalent to voting for the Monster Raving Loony Party.

I haven't seen any stats or any rationality at all that makes me think that this is not the poorest season I have ever seen Rooney play. Is he a bad player? No. Is he playing poorly this season? Yes.

So 5 goals and 10 assists in 17 games is playing poorly, ok. It's interesting to see what the water mark is. Tiote is fast becoming overrated, although i haven't seen him play at any high level competition apart from the WC where he tried to break Elano's leg.

One bad challenge does not make for a bad player. Don't be a nance it's a debate not a witch hunt. I think you are somehow ignoring that it is a look at good players who aren't living up to their own capabilities.

Its not so much just the goals as overall performance. I don't think Rooney has been particularly up to his usual standard thus I believe Rooney has underachieved and deserves his place in the XI

AP do you not see how that stat debunks everything you are saying.

United got more points when Rooney started in 07 -08. He played that year mostly in wide position flanking Ronaldo and Tevez.

The same position you say is the reason he hasnt got as much this year.

Do you not realise we are not saying he is crap, but having a bad season. And was far too overhyped last year.

Utd 442 - isn't a 442. Rooney drops extremely deep into midfield to pick up the ball. Fabregas is the attacking pivot of the midfield 3 isn't he? I'd say roughly the position is roughly the same.

Fabregas plays facing the opposition. When Rooney comes short he has his back to goal and is 30 yards further advanced than Cesc.

If they play the "roughly the same" position its only when Arsenal attack and have a team pinned back. Like every team do then the midfielder attacks into the box.

Rooney is playing the same position so as Ashley roughly so. Ive seen him in the box a number of times too.

                "playing basically the same position"

This is where I started to think you really dont actually know much about football.

Rooney has been the most advanced player for United in a number of games. Fabregas has equally been the most defensive of the Midfield 3 numerous times for Arsenal who and he has been injured on and off.

Are you still trying to justify Rooney's form because he is not playing as he was last year in ALL of the games.

Here explain this so. Rooney played left wing alot in 2007- 08 and didnt struggle this much. Cant you just accept his form has gone for the most part.

Apple was right its like your set to a robotic pro United in every commment.

Sooooo I gots me two free transfers this week but the following 5 are shooting blanks in GW28:
    Foster - Bought for 5.2, Selling Price = 5.2m
    Djourou - Bought for 4.2, Selling Price = 4.3m
    Fabs - Bought for 11.8, Selling Price = 11.9m
    VDV - Bought for 8.2, Selling Price = 8.6m
    RVP - Bought for 9.6, Selling Price = 10m

Foster is not really a concern as I have Mr. Begovic as cover. My team is therefore:
    Begovic
    Huth Coleman Rafael Kelly
    Nani Adam Brunt
    Tevez Odemwingie

I got value locked up in RVP and VDV so I'm reluctant to let them go. Also if I were to take out Djourou that would mean playing 5 defenders… UGLY!. I'm therefore thinking:

    Fabs out for ??????

    and

With my other free 'C hrisbr UNT' out for ???????? <<< Or Adam out for ?????? if he gets that inevitable booking.

I'm in the same situation and am doing Fabs+Djourou -> Cahill+Kolarov.
If Adam gets the yellow, then it would be Fabs+Adam -> Cahill+Silva or i'd take a 4p. hit for three transfrets to field 11.

RvP has to stay, vdV probably as well.

Donna is great. I had a chicken salad again, but I've eaten it already :/

I'm trying to work out a meal plan. I've already figured out a neat trick of getting a big carton of Innocent smoothie, and then re-filling a smaller bottle to save £1 a day (75p a smoothie!)

Then home made flapjacks which are practically free (that was breakfast), yoghurt with granola and compote, and a chicken salad or a sandwich. Sounds pretty good, but I'm looking for like a guide to tell you what you need to include

Good stuff and I've suffered much the same (though not with Arshavin), but this is more about real performances than fantasy football. Foster has been pretty good this year, and Arshavin, well, he is consistently inconsistent if that makes sense.

Haha. Just wanted to give you a warning in a friendly way.

Those two are tough masters I suppose. I think you should write articles about your favourite XIs, those are always good to read. Or least favourite XIs. We've all seen best/worst XIs too much, I like knowing which players people like and why.

Here is an XI of players I like

          Reina
          Sagna, Pique, Mellberg, Jose Enrique
          CY Lee, Ramires, Tomas Brolin
          N'Zogbia, Rodallega, Pedro

I may or may not be the only person on here to have met Piers Morgan. I interviewed him once for a magazine I worked for. I found him very friendly, funny and great banter over our 45 minute interview. He really is a mad arsenal fan, his walls were covered in Arsnal focused Mirror back pages. He also used to watch Brighton as a lad, which impressed me. Nice guy and apparantly a good boss to work for so says journo colleagues of mine at the Mirror. thought I'd even up the Morgan bashing a little. Although the Milan thing is still a blunder.

From what I've seen of him on TV and read in his columns, to me he comes across as a right arrogant C-un(i)t, and bursting to the seams with pure and utter hatred for United and wants everyone to know about it. Wonder if anyone could give me a steer - I'm able to access this site from work no problem, and up until about a month ago I could get on it at home no problem aswell. Lately though, when I try to get on FFS at home the site just will not load, and I get a blank white screen.

Anyone any idea what it could be? I'm fairly sure I don't have any particularly strict internet security options enabled at home, but I'm not all that computer-savvy!

      Not for me.

Every team he had for that record had huge budgets and distinct advantages over their opponents. Great record mind. But alot of it was luck and circumstance.

Porto always go through phases of dominance. Took over Chelsea when Arsenal and United were fading and had huge financial backing.

Took over Inter after Juve and Milan were destroyed under the match fixing claims and Inter hoovered up all the talent in the league

Then Real again same as Porto , again huge money invested .

Agreed. To say Porto go through phases of dominance is fair on a domestic scale, but Mourinho led them to UEFA Cup and Champions League victories in successive seasons.

He deserved any opportunity he got after that and he took it with both hands.

He can replace Wenger tomorrow as far as I'm concerned because he is a winner and I'll happily say that even after last night's success.

These 5 years with no trophies because of his stubborn approach and failure to sign midfielders, defenders and goalkeepers at varying times in that period are the main reason we haven't been successful and any success we now enjoy is long overdue and still not guaranteed.

Many have tried with Inter and failed but he built on their previous domestic triumphs and won the Champions League too.

I doubt there are many Chelsea fans who wouldn't have him back tomorrow. Once he finishes his Real Madrid stint, he'll be in Manchester, although timing will dictate who he manages.

Just realistic and not getting carried away.

He needs to deliver the Premiership for me to be happy to have him as Manager.

He built a team of 'Invicibles' and allowed them to break up within two years.

For all of those comments, I believe we now look stronger than at any stage in the past 3 or 4 seasons, but it's decisions like not buying that top class centre half which can still find us out.

I thought having enjoyed Chelsea under Mourinho, you would understand the attributes needed to win the title. I'm not interested in entertaining everyone that watches on TV, I just want that Premiership Title to be lifted come May. That should be every managers and every fans goal alike.

And yet you have addressed none of the points I made.

The fact that Inter domestically hoovered up all the talent when Milan and Juve were caught up in the match fixing

                or

The money he spent and the squad he had a Chelsea while there was no competition in England.

                Then he left.

Hughes has spent, Mancini has spent and Man City will not be winning the title. Give Mourinho that job in the summer and I believe he would deliver them the title. It's not just what you spend but how you spend it and the impression you have on the players throughout the season, motivating them and giving them that winning mentality.

Mancini won titles in Italy. The squad Jose won with when he first came to Italy was Mancinis.

Again its pretty simple. Jose had no competition on an equal footing with him when he took over

Hughes and Mancini still doesnt have as good a squad as their rivals do. There is competition now with United and Arsenal and Chelsea

When Jose was at Chelsea, United were had there worst team for 2 decades. Arsenal were also breaking up. Its incomparable to now under City.

Arsenal had just gone unbeaten and he then won the Premiership. Our break-up started the following season when we sold Vieira (a major part of our successful side).

City's spending must be similar to Chelsea's now and although they are getting closer, someone like Mourinho would finish the job.

          Theres alot more too.

Some journos in italy remarked how his short stints at clubs are also used to maximise players fitness.

Alot (people who know their italian football not me) have said that the reason Inter are messed up this year is he ran them into the ground last year and that even if he was in charge they would be no where near as good this year. He basically over trained them physically and the club is paying the cost now.

Cant remember who but he quoted some of the inter players as saying they were exhausted and he talked about the above.

Just watch him leave Real again shortly before he knows they will tank.

There was no competition in Portugal, He took over Chelsea when they were at their peak and Inter were the same as Porto.
I have no doubts if he were at Inter this year they would have lost.

He also was fortunate to get a number of last minute goals, then their is the big Elephant in the room with the advantage over poor opponents he has had.

This year v Barcelona is the first real rival he has had domestically who is on an equal footing talent wise and financially.

One thing that cannot be disputed with regards to Rooney since the Bayern Munich game last march is that his first touch, long range passing and general vision/decision making is all well down on what it was beforehand, regardless of whatever stats he may may prior to last season in comparison with the current season.

I'm a Man Utd 1st and a supporter of football 2nd, I didn't even think last season was his best season. Sure, he scored a load, but his contribution with his vast array of talents was greater in previous seasons. This season he's had his worst season since his first full season where he was raw.

I for one would prefer Rooney to continue his left forward/free role and never go back to being central striker.

Hey, that's enough of the balanced views and honesty towards your own club. Not welcome here.

decent trailer. it's good that the world has gone zombie-mad. zombies are awesome!

speaking of which, there's a glitch where you can get outside the map on Black Ops Zombies Ascention, right here:

So since N0lan severely disappointed me this GW, it is worth hanging on to him for the upcoming fixtures?

imo nolan's type of goals (poacher's goals) mean he can score against anyone so it's much harder than usual to predict when he'll do well (i.e getting him for an easy run of fixtures). Seems like the kind of players it's worth just hanging onto for the season and stomaching all the 2s in order to benefit from the double figure scores
