Arsenal’s stunning victory over Barcelona saw Robin Van Persie continue his unstoppable scoring streak, while Samir Nasri sparkled on his return from injury but was still overshadowed by the emerging Jack Wilshere – if only he could start fetching Fantasy points to match his performances.

Elsewhere, just over 7000 unfortunates witnessed Wigan’s reserves get dumped out of the FA Cup by Bolton’s second string striker on a battlefield of a pitch. The glamour of the FA Cup put nicely into perspective.

Here’s the notes from last night’s football…

While Arsenal’s 2-1 win reaffirmed their current form, in Fantasy terms it carried little significance other than alerting us to the fact that Arsenal will now go into an extremely competitive second-leg in Spain.

That tie follows the Gameweek 29 fixture with Sunderland and we must now be aware of the rotation implications around that match. Wenger has shown to this point that the league has remained a major priority, even over ambitions in Europe but, having gained a foothold against Barcelona, there will surely be the temptation to preserve key individuals for the return leg.

Samir Nasri’s return from a hamstring injury immediately puts him back on our radars as an option in midfield. Nasri lined up on the Gunners left-flank with Andrey Arshavin relegated to the bench. The Frenchman immediately demonstrated flashes of his pre-injury form, providing a smart assist as Arshavin came off the bench to fire the winner. Nasri will be backed to start returning points once league action resumes.

Nasri’s return is timely given the rather muted form of Cesc Fabregas and considering that Arsenal’s assets, including Fabregas, are likely to be sold in big numbers as we approach their blank fixture in Gameweek 28. Nasri could well benefit from heavy investment following this, if the midfield step down from Fabregas to the Frenchman becomes a popular strategy for Gameweek 29 onwards.

Arsenal now go into their second fixture of Gameweek 27 against Stoke next Wednesday, once they have made the trip to Orient in the FA Cup on Sunday. Rotation at the weekend looks inevitable but it will be interesting to see if any of this carries over to Wednesday’s league fixture – it seems unlikely. Sunday’s lineup will give us better indication as to Wenger’s starting XI for the visit of Stoke.

Over in the FA Cup, Ivan Klasnic did his best to offer a reminder of his existence to Owen Coyle by scoring the winner in the fourth round replay at Wigan. The Croatian has slipped further down the pecking order at the Reebok following the arrival of Daniel Sturridge, but may at least have given himself further opportunities for starts by steering Bolton into the fifth round – Bolton now go to Fulham on Sunday.

Klasnic was part of a shuffled Bolton lineup that saw the likes of Adam Bogdan, Fabrice Muamba, Martin Petrov also earn starts. Chung-Yong Lee made a return to the starting lineup having been left on the bench against Everton.

Bolton’s victory was marred by a setback for full-back Sam Ricketts who sustained an Achilles injury and was stretchered from the field. The early prognosis indicates that his season could be over. Owen Coyle certainly sounded pessimistic in his post-match comments…

“Sam’s damaged his Achilles and it doesn’t look great. It could be quite severe and we hope that’s not the scenario but it looks like it will be a lengthy period of time.”

This latest setback for Bolton arrives off the back of Zat Knight’s knee injury which leaves him sidelined for around six weeks. Bolton’s defensive resources now looked stretched then. Nonetheless, David Wheater looked accomplished in the Bolton back four last night and Coyle’s side earned their third clean sheet in the last four matches.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez made no less than nine changes to the lineup that came away with a point from Anfield at the weekend. Wigan is an unreliable source of Fantasy talent at the best of times but, with some many changes on show, there really was little of any significance for Fantasy Managers here.

The DW Stadium surface was perhaps the only factor of note. A major problem on the night, Martinez complained that his side could not put “three or four passes together” as a result of the uneven pitch. Significantly perhaps, Man United are next to visit Wigan on February 26 and the club are due to relay the pitch in time for that match. The playing surface could well be a factor in Gameweek 28 then.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Interesting. it used to be a widely held belief (by me anyway, and I'm quite wide) that the 'lite' options were risky and rarely paid off - for example, you always wanted Lampard over Malouda, Fabregas over Nasri, Rooney over Berbatov - if you could afford it. It's definitely not the case this season and the points hauls have come for those who have managed to pick the correct lite option.

    GW28 Transfers...

Fabs > Cahill (or other Everton player)

Right I need to get my team sorted, whats the most important transfer for me this week?

    Al-Habsi Foster
    Coleman, Hangeland, Gohouri, Elmo, Perch
    Nani, VDV, Adam, Downing, Dempsey
    Berbatov, RVP, Odemwingie

Berbatov>Tevez (if no DGW for United)
    Perch>Walker (if DGW for United)

Guys, a question: In the Champions League 2 leg matches, an away goal counts more than a home goal. But when would this ever be useful?

I think if there are 2 ties and one has more goals in it. Is that right?
For instance, it's a moot point for the second leg of the Arsenal/Barcelona game now, because Arsenal are a goal ahead. Right?

Loved the game last night, not an Arsenal fan but found myself suprisingly cheering them on. I think having Fabs and RVP in your Fantasy team really messes with your head.

Anyway, I can put out 11 this week suprisingly, I thought I was going to have to do some shuffling. My only priority is to get VDV back in for their decent run of games. No Rooney or Berbs for their DGW.

Few quick changes for consideration Robin...

Elmo is not getting 90 minutes so get him out.
Worth doing Downing to either Young for a better Villa option or Cahill as he has a double coming up.
Maybe worth doing the same as me Odem > DJCam but its not a guaranteed winner.

Christian - that's my second name BTW. Pity about Nani on your bench.

I think I need to dump Berba and load my midfield for the run in. I need to get my timing right as my mini league leader is a big ManU supporter and has Berba. I'm afraid i will lose out on another 20pt haul in gw 30-32 when ManU have BOLT/westh/FUL.

Morning all, Si and the Stock have been kind enough to post another of my witless ramblings on their blog.

Not expecting to be flavour of the month with Chelsea fans or Man Utd supporters. They are quite a reactionary set, but as I try and convey at the start if I didn't think they were good players they wouldn't be in that list.
Apart from Glen Johnson, I still can't decide if he is a good player playing badly or a bad player playing at the right level.

I cannot believe that Glen Johnson has not been played on the right wing. He is actually a decent attacking player but just a very naive defender. And Liverpool are crying out for some pace on the flanks.

He has been ok on the left, but I agree he is better going forward.
Portsmouth were sort of like Wimbledon of the 90's, their players look great there but once you pay millions for them you realise you've been sold a lemon. See Warren Barton for example.

              Even Defoe started looking good.

Annoys me how 'arry gets no stick for nearly ruining Bent because of his love for defoe.

Rooney is the correct call imo, just bad timing as he now seems to be warming up.

Suprised he's in the OPTA team of the year. I would have thought the only stat that mattered was the number 5 under goals scored. Nah I jest, I know he offers a lot more than just goals i.e. his 10 assists but I think if anyone said that Rooney would have only scored 5 up to this point in the season you'd say he was having a bad one.

                Thanks mate!

I hope so...I compromised my team somewhat when playing my wildcard last gameweek so I'd have 11 starters i.e. dumping Adam, VDV etc. So I think I'm as best prepared as possible for the upcoming gameweek when I envisage a lot taking hits.

Just need to stop making calls like benching Nani, doh!

Yeah you gotta take the rough with the smooth! Nice call benching Tevez too. Everytime I look at my team all I see is a big fat 2 staring at me when I look at Tevez sat there.

There's a lot of highly ranked players using the forums, not necessarily all of them post though. The highest who consistantly posts is probably Katie. She was 12th last time I checked her rank. Impressive stuff.

Plan is to bring in Cahill this week for Walcott. Got exactly the right cash. Not prepared to make the move before the Chelsea game though incase of injuries etc, so hoping he stays at 8.9m until then.

VDV...erm...I guess if he's fully fit come gameweek 29 I'll have to consider getting him back in. Most likely for A Young but not sure I could drop Young ahead of Wolves at home. Might just have to grin and bear it until GW30 before I get him back in though!

No not at all most people have only mild attacks which they can prevent by avoiding red wine or beer in large quantities, many switch to cider for this reason If the attacks are more severe you just need to take a daily tablet to prevent them. Were you drinking last night?

Not really. Last time I ate crisps was... either monday or last week. I don't tend to eat crisps very much. If possible I prefer protein like yohurt, but I eat more crisps moer often than yoghurt. about twice a week. I drink an average of 1-2 cups of tea a day.

Nah red meat aint "bad" per say. You need some to improve your iron count for one. Its just alot of recent research into "blue zones" media term for places who's populations live longest, have less cancer rates and lower heart disease tend to eat very little red meat.

Heres a short, free recent meta analysis.

Not to get bogged down in boring lingo i know not many want to hear but Gillian Mckeith and all (made up figure - lets say a large proportion) who call themselves "nutritionists" are on the whole charlatans. There isn t a proper regulatory federation governing it (the term nutritionist) so anybody, me, you, your cat etc is a nutritionist.

Recently Dietitians (Health care professionals regulated by BDA govermentin nutrition the true professionals have tried to bring to this to nations attention , also the Nutrion society have set about accrediting courses for study of nutrition so people can actual check if so called "nutritionists" actualy have any knowledge.

Loads and I mean loads of ppl are taking advantage of this who have no nutritional grounding. I have yet to find one "nutritional expert" in media, tv, writing in papers, chats shows, or publishing books who actually completed an accredited course. The ones who do are pretty much never on tv/ health food shows as they for the most part arent in it for the money.

But yes to get back to your point it can be interesting, Just be aware of the "nutritionists" who clam to be experts. They really do muddy the water.

Current midfield: Fabregas, Nani, Van der Vaart, Adam, Barton.

    Am thinking of going:

    Week 28: Fabregas -> ???

    Week 29: Barton -> Walcott

That way I avoid the blank gameweek, retain Arsenal coverage in midfield for week 29 onwards, and save some money by getting Walcott instead of Fabregas.

QUESTION: who should the ??? be? I should have around 9m to spend. Meireles? Cahill? Someone else?

3 game risk when others only have 1 game isnt much of a risk really .

If i downgrade Fabs this week I need a midfielder for 2 weeks who will eventually become VDV week 30.

I can have Arteta for 3 games in weeks then boot him. Walcott would replace Nolan week after next for Arsenals next fixture.

Thats what im leaning towards at the minute.

City dont tend to score much from midfield. Arteta with his 3 games id back to outscore.

Yep it is a concern. But then again fabs has only been getting 3- 7 points even when Arsenal have been scoring loads.

RVP is the main player to have. I might just risk Walcotts 0, 10, 1, 12 outlay over fabs 3,6.6.7

Going back to a possible cheap striker in the next 5 weeks or so, surely Leon Best might be worth a punt? Can't argue with their fixtures and then a simple change to Welbeck?

Am I crazy in thinking this is good?

your team currently has RVp, VDV, and R Johnson, those 3 would be your bench if you sell fabs, so if adam gets booked against spurs, youd be a man short, so i would plan for it.

Me too. My friend (who claims not to care so much about football after last year) was looking really pissed off last night, especially at the guy in the (David) Villa shirt in front of him.

Then I saw (and heard) the RVP goal, and saw the FT score when I got home. So I Facebooked him, and he was much, much happier.

Still, the 3rd time they've been beaten this season?
