Arsenal claim a precious three points at the Emirates, withstanding the bruising Stoke City threat at the cost of injuries to Cesc Fabregas and Theo Walcott. Over in France meanwhile, there was no place for “fantasy” as United claimed a Champions League stalemate with a professional if somewhat uninspiring display.

The final fixture of a prolonged gameweek saw Arsene Wenger make seven changes to the lineup that was held by Orient in the FA Cup. The likes of Samir Nasri, Walcott, Fabregas and Jack Wilshere all returned ot the midfield, while Johan Djourou came into the back four that was without the injured Laurent Koscielny. Nicklas Bendtner was given the nod over Marouane Chamakh up front, as Robin Van Persie missed out with a hamstring. Andrey Arshavin again dropped to the bench, with Nasri taking up his role on the left-flank.

Arsenal’s 1-0 win was completely overshadowed by injuries to both Fabregas and Waclott. The early setback suffered by the Arsenal skipper seemed to derail Arsene Wenger’s men who had started brightly, weaving patterns around a bewildered Stoke City. Arsenal’s fluidity seemed to leave the pitch with Fabregas after 14 minutes; despite the efforts of Samir Nasri and Jack Wilshere (who claimed the 3 Bonus Points), the Gunners seemed to lose their way without their skipper’s influence.

As we’ve stated in earlier articles, we are due to hear more on the Fabregas hamstring injury today. The player himself has expressed his determination to make Sunday’s final, posting the following on his Twitter feed…

“I dont know if I’ll make Sunday or not, but all I know is that from this moment to Sunday I won’t sleep if it’s necessary. I’ve waited too long to captain a final for Arsenal and I won’t give up till the last second.”

As stated last night however, it seems unlikely that Wenger will look to take any risks with his skipper, either in Sunday’s game, or the gameweek 29 league encounter with Sunderland that falls three days before the second leg of the Champions League tie with Barcelona.

As for Walcott, he is already out of Sunday’s game with an ankle sprain. Again the severity and term of absence is unknown – we can expect to hear more on Friday, when both Robin Van Persie and Laurent Koscielny will also be assessed prior to the Wembley final.

With doubts surrounding the likes of Fabregas, Walcott and Van Persie in the coming weeks, we can expect to see Nasri’s stock rising. The Frenchman appears to offer some security in Arsenal’s midfield, particularly while Fabregas is rested or sidelined. Arsenal certainly have the fixtures to offer strong rewards at both ends (SUN wba BLA blp) – the task is to identify players who will be on the field to return them.

Stoke battled manfully in last night’s game and posed Arsenal problems in the second period. Their defensive resolve and threat at set-plays was again in evidence and continues to be the key factors when it comes to Fantasy investment. Robert Huth has proved a popular Fantasy signing thanks to his incredible goalscoring output this season; interest in him is likely to simmer for a good few gameweeks yet. Stoke face West Brom at the Britannia in gameweek 28 and follow that with a trip to West Ham and then a run of three home games in four.

Didier Deschamps claimed in the pre-match build up to his side’s Champions League clash with United that their opponents lacked “fantasy”. However you define that term, it was clear that while United certainly didn’t lack a work ethic or defensive strength, they struggled to find a cutting edge against Marseille.

Deschamp’s focus on United’s lack of creativity will have struck a nerve with Alex Ferguson after last night’s display and United will clearly need to get more from Nani, Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov in the second leg. We can also expect to see Paul Scholes and/or Ryan Giggs involved – last night’s midfield trio of Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick and Darron Gibson showed industry, but lacked the guile required to pick the lock.

Significantly Ferguson deployed Rooney in a wide left role, with Nani occupying the opposite flank and Berbatov operating down the middle in a 4-5-1. This perhaps indicates United’s likely formation for “big game” scenarios, particularly when Giggs is out of the picture. It could well be the strategy used at Stamford Bridge in United’s second fixture of the forthcoming gameweek. Although Rooney is heavily involved regardless of his position, his Fantasy owners won’t enjoy the prospect of starts in a wide role.

Chris Smalling was again outstanding in defence deputising for the injured Rio Ferdinand. He will likely start at Wigan at the weekend, although Ferdinand is expected to return for the potentially vital visit to Stamford Bridge next week.

John O’Shea once again started at right-back, with Rafael left on the United bench. The Brazilian now appears to have lost the initiative when it comes to a starting role having seen red at White Hart Lane and returned from his suspension. It seems that Fantasy Managers can no longer look to Rafael for any kind of security when it comes to acquiring a source of United defensive points – not an ideal scenario going into a double fixture gameweek.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

At least we had all planned not to play Arsenal players this week already. Good thing the Spurs Arsenal match wasn't rescheduled for GW28.

My usual keeper is Sczczeny with Al Habsi as back up.

Now with the gooners sitting out this week. . . and Al Habsi facing ManU, I feel a bit vulnerable.

I was thinking about buying Van de Sar (selling Al Habs). . . but it'll cost me 4 points.

It's tight in my league I'm 2 points behind the guy ahead of me, and about 5 points ahead of the guy behind.

Do you think this is a good move?

It's a dgw for VDS. . . so he'll earn 4 points just for showing up. .. plus he could keep a clean sheet. . . right?!

    Your opinions please. . .

      Gamble

      Play Al habsi

VDS has 2 away games and is likely to concede in one of those, possibly both

Use the transfer elsewhere imo - do you want that much money tied up in a goalkeeper going foward?

BP's aren't everything and he won't be on pens or free kicks etc. In fact have you ever seen Wilshere shoot? Don't think he has enough strength in those little legs to reach the goal from further out than about 6 yards.

Nasri or even Arshavin would be better options if Walcott is out as well.

hey, know what the standard arguement is to this question, but the situation is slightly different:-

im 20 points off top of private league, but my team is in pieces with all arsenal players out, charlie adams, bimingham not playing etc

Im thinking of big gamble - TWELVE point hit with 10 gameweeks left to catch leader, id be 32 points behind but team would be infintely stronger

Is there a gambler out there that would agree with that "chancer" type attitude? cheers

Sure, 12 points can be made up pretty quick between a weak and poor team. You can reclaim your points taken in hits in a single week. However, you are going to have to be sure about your team and take hits that strengthens your team for the long run, not just for this upcoming week.

In a "decent" DGW i think - 12point hits can work:

for example: prior to GW27 i was 50pts off my mini league leader and he took a -12pt hit. I am now 40pts off (he scored 101 inc hits and i scored 99) Therefore, if he had not of taken the hits his lead would be down to about 29pts

In this case he actually gained an extra 11pts by taking a 12 point hit, but has indirectly caused problems going into GW28 especially due to injuries and suspensions - hits must have long term worth. Additionally, this GW doesnt cry out with any great fixtures as others have e.g. Arsenal VS Stoke and Wolves

Anyone thinking not to take a hit to field 11. Im thinking of just doing Stockdale to VDS and playing 10. Dont really want to lose Adam cos i dont see any good replacements this week (was looking at Barton but already have Nolan) and il prob keep my 3 Arsenal aswell as I dont want to lose Djourou and RVP and dont see any players I want for Fabs.
Plus Arsenal players and Adam are ones il want back which means il save transfers around the time Chelsea have a double rather than trying to fix things with hits again.

I think my squad is strong enough to bench him if i want or play him where he will prob pick up some steady bonus points. I dont its wise to lose someone with that many bonus points if you can make a decent team while keeping him.

Unlikely to take a hit as i am fortunate to be able to field 10 as it is and have 2 freebies.

Adam will probably leave my team due to him missing the next 2 and then have 2 away fixtures followed by a home fixture to Arsenal - Adam will be back in GW33

Agree, Djourou and RVP have to stay, Fabs on the otherhand will probably go to be replaced by Nasri next GW. Fabs hasnt quite lived up to last seasons form and his hefty price tag. If its another hamstring injury he could be out for 2-4weeks and used sparingly in the league, for now, anyway.

Having Cahill and Nolan does appear to limit available options

Ya i agree like the idea of holding fabs and seeing will he play and if he doesnt a switch to Nasri longterm looks the best option.

I've had him for a while though. If it's just for this week I would chose Rooney. Berba gets most of his points at Old Trafford.

I agree, but am still tempted, he scores with his head, not to hard to find that form with Baines' pin point accuracy.

That being said, where he is a doubt for the weekend, it is surely highly unlikely that he will feature in both Everton DGW games, which is the main reason why people are going for him.

Young for fixtures and penalty duties, Cahill next if fit, Silva a close third, I am looking at Cahill or Silva as I have Young, if Cahill is deemed fit I may go for him,but with so much doubt over him who knows if he will play in the two DGW games anyway, so it is a tricky one.

And then you mean compare one of them vs Kolarov? I would play Kolarov over Young this week if you mean a decision between the two,but I am playing both

WC could be handy for whenever chelseas DGW happens, either use it to get em in, or gradually transfer them in and WC to get em out for the home stretch. of course if they find form you may want to keep anyway.

FA cup semi-finals sheduled for GW34 weekend so i'd keep it until then and see what happens about rescheduling those games. Unless they can just be slotted in the same GW in the midweek after (someone else might know this!)?

101 on the week but at 80 odd before all the rest of the DGW games last week I thought I was on for 120 plus at least, West Brom/Brummies and Arsenal/Stoke all failed to boost my score.

Look like taking a 4-12 point hit this week to clean up team (despite wildcarding last week), but want to get rid of Adam and Odemwingie, and Cesc and RVP are surplus to requirements maybe with injury doubts and rotation with big games, might take the gamble.

I have been lucky with my decisions this season, shipped Malouda when he appeared to be done, did the same with VDV which has since looked to have paid off, for the the time being anyway, and won't lose an awful lot on Cesc or RVP, we'll see, in a week where hits are more common, it could be a good week to make changes you might need to make in a few weeks anyway!

I am seriously considering Berbatov where Fergie played a 4-3-3, with Rooney and Nani left, he can't keep putting Berb on the bench for the big games surely, or he will lose him in the summer?

Am going to sleep on it again, but I am actually now leaning towards Berbatov, I had Rooney for too long as he was played in every other position than the one he is most dangerous in, and if he is going to be played wide left, Berbatov is the better option and is bound to recapture form.

Very true. However Rooney is on pens and I dont know if berba will play both gasmes as they are away from home. Rooney is more likely to be used. With hernandez in the wings I'm pretty sure neither will complete 180 mins
