Arsenal claim a precious three points at the Emirates, withstanding the bruising Stoke City threat at the cost of injuries to Cesc Fabregas and Theo Walcott. Over in France meanwhile, there was no place for “fantasy†as United claimed a Champions League stalemate with a professional if somewhat uninspiring display.

The final fixture of a prolonged gameweek saw Arsene Wenger make seven changes to the lineup that was held by Orient in the FA Cup. The likes of Samir Nasri, Walcott, Fabregas and Jack Wilshere all returned ot the midfield, while Johan Djourou came into the back four that was without the injured Laurent Koscielny. Nicklas Bendtner was given the nod over Marouane Chamakh up front, as Robin Van Persie missed out with a hamstring. Andrey Arshavin again dropped to the bench, with Nasri taking up his role on the left-flank.

Arsenal’s 1-0 win was completely overshadowed by injuries to both Fabregas and Waclott. The early setback suffered by the Arsenal skipper seemed to derail Arsene Wenger’s men who had started brightly, weaving patterns around a bewildered Stoke City. Arsenal’s fluidity seemed to leave the pitch with Fabregas after 14 minutes; despite the efforts of Samir Nasri and Jack Wilshere (who claimed the 3 Bonus Points), the Gunners seemed to lose their way without their skipper’s influence.

As we’ve stated in earlier articles, we are due to hear more on the Fabregas hamstring injury today. The player himself has expressed his determination to make Sunday’s final, posting the following on his Twitter feed…

“I dont know if I’ll make Sunday or not, but all I know is that from this moment to Sunday I won’t sleep if it’s necessary. I’ve waited too long to captain a final for Arsenal and I won’t give up till the last second.”

As stated last night however, it seems unlikely that Wenger will look to take any risks with his skipper, either in Sunday’s game, or the gameweek 29 league encounter with Sunderland that falls three days before the second leg of the Champions League tie with Barcelona.

As for Walcott, he is already out of Sunday’s game with an ankle sprain. Again the severity and term of absence is unknown – we can expect to hear more on Friday, when both Robin Van Persie and Laurent Koscielny will also be assessed prior to the Wembley final.

With doubts surrounding the likes of Fabregas, Walcott and Van Persie in the coming weeks, we can expect to see Nasri’s stock rising. The Frenchman appears to offer some security in Arsenal’s midfield, particularly while Fabregas is rested or sidelined. Arsenal certainly have the fixtures to offer strong rewards at both ends (SUN wba BLA blp) – the task is to identify players who will be on the field to return them.

Stoke battled manfully in last night’s game and posed Arsenal problems in the second period. Their defensive resolve and threat at set-plays was again in evidence and continues to be the key factors when it comes to Fantasy investment. Robert Huth has proved a popular Fantasy signing thanks to his incredible goalscoring output this season; interest in him is likely to simmer for a good few gameweeks yet. Stoke face West Brom at the Britannia in gameweek 28 and follow that with a trip to West Ham and then a run of three home games in four.

Didier Deschamps claimed in the pre-match build up to his side’s Champions League clash with United that their opponents lacked “fantasyâ€. However you define that term, it was clear that while United certainly didn’t lack a work ethic or defensive strength, they struggled to find a cutting edge against Marseille.

Deschamp’s focus on United’s lack of creativity will have struck a nerve with Alex Ferguson after last night’s display and United will clearly need to get more from Nani, Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov in the second leg. We can also expect to see Paul Scholes and/or Ryan Giggs involved – last night’s midfield trio of Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick and Darron Gibson showed industry, but lacked the guile required to pick the lock.

Significantly Ferguson deployed Rooney in a wide left role, with Nani occupying the opposite flank and Berbatov operating down the middle in a 4-5-1. This perhaps indicates United’s likely formation for “big game†scenarios, particularly when Giggs is out of the picture. It could well be the strategy used at Stamford Bridge in United’s second fixture of the forthcoming gameweek. Although Rooney is heavily involved regardless of his position, his Fantasy owners won’t enjoy the prospect of starts in a wide role.

Chris Smalling was again outstanding in defence deputising for the injured Rio Ferdinand. He will likely start at Wigan at the weekend, although Ferdinand is expected to return for the potentially vital visit to Stamford Bridge next week.

John O’Shea once again started at right-back, with Rafael left on the United bench. The Brazilian now appears to have lost the initiative when it comes to a starting role having seen red at White Hart Lane and returned from his suspension. It seems that Fantasy Managers can no longer look to Rafael for any kind of security when it comes to acquiring a source of United defensive points – not an ideal scenario going into a double fixture gameweek.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    cricket - but football related!

of 35000 tickets just 7000 are available for fans. pretty shocking, the ICC is gobbling them up in 'the football family' fashion. given how manic they are about cricket in india and sri lanka it's even worse. rushes for the few tickets that do exist for fans caused crushes

staff admins etc. they tend to sell it to others for higher prices since the 'normal' tickets are sold out. something they just give the tickets to their family/relatives to go n watch the game, but this is very rare.

and P.S. the staff, admins etc get these tickets for absolutely free. so if the tickets remain unsold, they put them up for sale at normal sale at the stadium, on matchday. this entire thing is called 'black tickets'

oops. turns out the match was initially scheduled for a 90,000 seater stadium but that wasn't ready in time so had to be switched to a 38,000 stadium. that would explain the crazily low proportion of tickets for fans.

And then if that doesn't work, I tweak it again and that's another hour.

Is there a quick way of seeing if your rival has used BOTH their wildcards already other than wading through their transfer history and seeing if there are a host of transfers for a particular GW?

Even then a load of transfers for a GW could be points hits?

This is my first season playing this game, so any help would be appreicated.

Just go the botton of their Transfer History and it'll state when the wildcards were played. "Wildcard played making transfers for gameweek 3, gameweek 25" or something similar. If only one GW is mentioned, he still has one up his sleeve.

Its weird theres literally noone im interested in at the moment other than him and maybe zigic in place of odemwingie but that transfer has to wait for obvious reasons. What would you say about doubling up on baines and coleman for the double? Ive already got coleman. I wouldnt get him in solely for it if im honest.

If I'm getting rid of Fabregas and Adam, two of my most reliable players, I'd like to replace them with two players also in some semblance of form, rather than two who aren't, and one of whom is possibly injured...

Thoughts? Who are the safest bets in midfield this week?

I agree to some extent. But I like Fellaini & Arteta a lot less than Cahill. And there's always the risk the double doesn't happen.

3-4-2. possibly 4-4-2 if i want to spend 4 more points to get 11 players. thing is if i play with 10 the 11th player has 4 points already

hmmm... Ok I think one of my transfers could well be Adam out for Joseph Barton. That one seems entirely sensible.

    Then I'm considering

Garrghhh!!! I know I should wait for confirmation, but I have nothing much to do right now. I need to first work out rough times of return for all my injured/suspended players (ironically everyone who wasn't going to play this gameweek anyway and Adam).

    Physio Room http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/epl_injury_table.php says:

Van Der Vaart: back for 6th (against Wolves)
    Fabregas: No return date
    Walcott: No return date
    Van Persie: No return date
    Adam: back for the 19th.

So it looks like I'm keeping hold of VdV. Then it depends who is the worse injured of the rest of them. I might swap out all my Arsenal guys for Cahill, Rooney and Barton.

        True, true.

It might be better to try and lose as little as possible, maybe transfer VdV out the next week.

while I'm still in the ffl fantasy cup I'm sure you wont mind me relating the crazy cup tie I just had:
after last saturdays games i was about 30 pts up with 8 players to play to her 6, easy win i thought with some matching players to come (Djourou, Campbell & Adam (her Captain)
    1. she gets 17 pts (instead of 4) after cech saves pen last min for her and also ivanovic in defence
    2. Foster & brunt get pretty much zilch for me
    3. VDV doesnt play for me - Tevez comes in for 2 pts woohoo
    4. Van Persie doesnt play
    5. my captain Fabs plays about 15 mins
If Blackpool hadnt let the last minute goal in I would have lost the tie by 1 point as she had Evatt in defence
I reckon my names on this cup !

Everybody considering loosing money regarding RVP(and keeping him). My selling price 10.0 He is gonna fall before GW start so 10.3 it means 0.3 loss. I see another possible fall that means 0.2 loss. In mean time jump on the Roonster 4 pt hit but he plays twice so no problem, he rises 0.2 it means 0.1 profit so I don't see why someone should do it unless he has starting 11 what I doubt a lot.

So no points loss and 0.1 m 10GW before the end. No brainier lads, no brainier!!!

    Hi guys

Could really do with your advice

Before the Adam disaster I had already made a transfer but I'm still potentially a few guys short. Do you think below is worth a 8point hit?

    Stockdale > Van Der Sar
    Fabs > Silva

interesting tosey.Definately feeling lampard but not torres.Im going to keep clear of Arteta and Cahill in the end. Lumping for baines so baines and coleman at back. Then its a toss up between bent for odem, or rooney for van p.

just think torres has to start scoring soon, class is permanent and all that

im pretty much certain of 2nd in my minileague so taking a punt to try and catch the leader
if it backfires and i start to get reeled in ill start playin safe again
