As promised, we’re squeezing in a second free-to-enter cup competition before end the season ends… The Fantasy Football Scout Cup IV.

This upcoming gameweek (GW29) will be the qualifying round, with the top scorers (minus point hits) progressing to the first round of 512 in GW30. Entry is now open, and will remain so up until a few days before the GW30 deadline (a reminder with be posted). To be clear, you can submit your entry for the competition after the GW29 deadline, but it will be your score from GW29 that will count for qualifying.

Here is all the info you need to know…

What is the Fantasy Football Scout Cup?

The Fantasy Football Scout Cup is our version of the Fantasy Premier Leagueโ€™s Fantasy Cup game. Entrants who qualify for the first round will be randomly drawn against each other and the winner of the tie is whoever has the highest score from that gameweek, minus points spent on transfers (like in the original game and in head-to-head scores). In the event of a tie, the Manager with the highest in the overall standing will progress.

Each gameweek the number of teams will halve, and when the competition reaches the latter stages, Mark and Granville will make live draws on the podcast as we reach our exciting conclusion.

How do I enter?

As with the Members Paddy Power Cup, entry for the competition is simple, just follow this link [ENTRY CLOSED] and fill out the form. A confirmation email will be sent shortly after you’ve submitted your details to acknowledge your entry has been received. Just like the FPL, multiple entries to the Cup are not permitted.

When does it start?

All entries go into the qualifying round, which uses GW29 scores. the deadline to enter will be announced in due course. The first round proper of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup will be Gameweek 30.

When will I find out if I’ve qualified?

Results from the qualifying round will be published a couple of days before the GW30 deadline.

When are the fixtures released?

The fixture list for each round will be published a day or two before each deadline.

Is there a prize?

Fantasy Football Scout is providing the following prizes:

  • Winner – ยฃ150 Amazon Voucher
  • Runner-up – ยฃ75 Amazon Voucher

The Winner will also gain passage to the Fantasy Football Scout Hall of Fame and seal qualification for all free Cup Competitions in forthcoming seasons.

      Team for this week:

      Foster
      Coleman,Kolarov,Huth,RJ
      Nani,Meireles,Nasri
      Tevez,Rooney,Zigic

      Begovic,Barton,Adam,Kelly

Already made an 4 point hit, is it worth making a 8 point hit to get rid of Kelly?
Or just field this team and hope Meireles plays, or maybe play Barton ahead of Meireles?

I would just play the odds that one of the two (Meirs/Barton) will start-- if you lose both to injuries... (20%) chance- then it's only 60-40 that you would have gained the full 4 points back anyway. That's how I look at it, but I would re-look injuries on Friday night (especially RJ who I hope is OK).

Balls! Fecked up the entry form for the cup. For the I.D I put in my team name (duh!) instead of the link. Now I can't resubmit with the same e-mail. Any solution? (I don't own a time machine. . . or a DeLorean).

I'm really finding it difficult to fathom the Nasri love for this gameweek.

To me he is nothing more than a short term option, and that too a term of only one week!

Arsenal play their next game on 19th March. Fabs will be back in that game and back on both free kicks and penalties. Nasri will again be shunted to the right/left wing and he will again struggle to score points.

Also, once Walcott returns Nasri will be a rotation risk too considering Arsenal's run of fixtures.

Hmm yeah I agree with Fabs probably taking some of the limelight - but it didn't harm him too badly before.
Can't see Nasri being rotated at all. Maybe subbed early for Arshavin when big games are coming up but not dropped.

A common fallacy. Nasri has 'always' (this season) played out wide - hasn't done him much harm as of yet. He's also managed to keep a substantial share of set-pieces whether Cesc is on the pitch or not.

He is fit, having his best season to date and Arsenal have [wba, BLA, bpl, LIV/tot] to follow.

Does it guarantee points? God no. But it's a good sign.

I haven't really seen many Arsenal games tbh, but from what I have seen he did tend to be more influential in the games that Fabs didn't play in.

Anyways, I do remember being frustrated with his low returns at some point earlier in the season, while Fabs was racking up the points.

Still, I concede that at 8.1 you might not find a better option.

With no Van Persie for a while, and who would be surprised if it was a long while, somebody has to score the goals. Fabregas's return takes him off penalties but will also provide opportunities for him to score.

Well I haven't the foggiest what to do this GW transfer-wise. Zigic + Lampard / Torres + Bentley, Nasri, Arteta, Saha... RVP, Cahill and Kelly injuries to cope with also.

Breaking it down, a 4 or 8 point hit is likely so Birmingham or Everton players make the most sense with their DGW. I'll add Chelsea to that list given their win against United and an Adam-less Blackpool up next.

I'm ruling out Nasri and Arsenal for now, as I don't think Sunderland will be a walkover without Cesc and Van Persie. Same goes for VDV at Spurs as Wolves are on a great run at home, and there's the AC Milan game next week.

          Zigic or Bentley

          Zigic
+ on a high from the Cup win and in form
+ goal threat from set pieces
+ likely to assist with knock downs
          - Birmingham don't create many chances

          Bentley
+ plenty of crosses and assist potential
+ possibly on penalties if Gardner is absent
          - could assist the assister (Zigic)

          Torres or Lampard

          Torres
+ Blackpool games average 3+ goals a game
+ World class on his day
          - Terrible form

          Lampard
          + Penalties and set pieces
          + viable captain option
          - deep lying role in a likely 442

          Saha or Arteta

          Saha
          + in form striker
          - FRAGILE handle with care
          - partnership with Beckford?

          Arteta
+ penalties and some set pieces
          - deep lying playmaker role
          - lack of assist potential with Cahill and Fellaini out

I'm swaying towards Zigic and Lampard, with a possible further hit on Roger Johnson given the West Brom fixture.

zigic, lampard, saha are the better options there imo. Who would RJ replace in your starting XI if you took an extra hit to get him?

Kelly, although I've been trying to ship out Evra for a while. His fixtures soften after Liverpool however.

so kelly to rj -4 and would mean benching evra? If so I'd take a punt on that if we know rj is fit.
Not sure you'd want zigic after this week, would probably prefer the rj trade to that one tbh.

Cheers Champ. Zigic (or Saha) has to be one of the transfers for RVP to free up funds for Lamps.

That tweet about evans starting training it pretty worrying. If Carroll got the better of Vidic in the air at OT, imagine what he'll do to Evans at Anfield. Blurrrrrrrrghhh.

Should I play one of Walker/Meireles instead of doubling up on Everton defenders. My team is:

          Foster
          Baines, Coleman, Kolarov, R Johnson
          A Young, Nani, Nasri
          Tevez (C), Berbatov, Zigic

          Subs: Begovic, Meireles, Walker, Adam

Alright these are the transfers i am thinking of doing.

          Only 1 free transfer.

          1) RVP to Saha
          2) Kelly to Luiz
          3) Walcott to Downing
          4) Berbatov to Sturridge
...in order of importance. Where should i stop? at 1? Any other suggestions?

Got Vidic,Kelly,Walcott,RVP out and Barton doubtful.

My theory has been you should play 11- so if it takes two to make your 11 (depends on Barton) and answer the bell this week and make the new player count for next week, go with 1 and 3, despite Luiz being in a terrific position for a CS. I'd even go for Arteta/ Bentley or another DGW over Downing to increase my odds of matching a four point output from that slot.

Maybe Berbs will start and cure all ills. I don't have him.
