Aston Villa arrived at Eastlands with match winning talent on the bench, granting Cityโ€™s star-studded lineup an easy passage to an FA Cup Quarter-Final. Down at the Emirates meanwhile, Leyton Orient are left dreaming of Vegas as Arsenalโ€™s Nicklas Bentdner hits the jackpot with a hat-trick to cement his place in Van Persieโ€™s non-pink boots and maybe even the minds of Fantasy Managersโ€ฆ

Inexplicably Gerard Houllier chose to make no less than eight changes to the lineup that destroyed Blackburn at the weekend. Significantly both Ashley Young and Stewart Downing were rested to the bench โ€“ good news for their Fantasy owners, but surely baffling for the Villa fans who made a hopeful trip to Eastlands.

Houlier handed a first start to new signing Michael Bradley in midfield. He lined up alongside Barry Bannan, with Fabian Delph also given a midfield role and Stiiyan Petrov recalled. Nathan Delfouneso started in attack, with Gabby Agbonlahor and Emile Heskey up with him. There was little to take from the Villa performance here โ€“ very few involved boosted their first team credentials and Houllier will surely recall the likes of Young, Downing and Albrighton for the trip to Bolton this weekend.

City, in contrast, fielded a strong starting XI, although it must be said that Roberto Mancini did take the opportunity to rest Carlos Tevez. He emerged from the bench on 60 minutes but it was Mario Balotelli who was handed the start up front in a 4-5-1. Micah Richards made a return from injury at the back, with Jerome Boateng and Joleon Lescott in central defensive roles and Pablo Zabaleta at left-back.

Aleksandar Kolarov was in the left midfield role once again then. As usual he fired in a few ambitious efforts on goal, but it was his corners that were the real feature of his game. His deadball delivery continues to offer City a threat and could yet bring him assists this season.

Yaya Toure was back in an attacking midfield role and offered a reminder as to his Fantasy potential, scoring the opening goal and then providing the assist for Balotelliโ€™s strike and Cityโ€™s second.

David Silva sparkled throughout and his 20-yard effort for the third goal announced his return to the City lineup after missing the 1-1 with Fulham with an ankle knock. He will surely lineup against Wigan at the weekend and offer a decent midfield prospect as a result.

Baltotelli has now scored 10 goals in 18 appearances for City, gathering 9 bookings in the process. He also added to that tally last night, picking up a yellow from Mark Clatternburg for a stray elbow sent in the direction of Villaโ€™s Chris Herd. He could well find himself on the bench for the Wigan clash this weekend with Tevez certain to be recalled. Edin Dzeko could also earn a chance to impress. Mancini gave us this brief insight into his thinking going into the weekendโ€ฆ

โ€œI hope to have Vincent Kompany and Nigel de Jong back for the weekend and it was good that Edin Dzeko had a rest and Carlos only played for 30 minutes. It was a good night for us.โ€

Arsenalโ€™s routine 5-0 win over Orient was notable for one thing โ€“ Nicklas Bendtnerโ€™s hat-trick โ€“ a feat that surely puts him in the box seat for the striker role in a 4-2-3-1 against Barcelona and, at the same time, offers a reminder to Fantasy Managers as to his frustrating talent.

With Robin Van Persie sidelined, Arsene Wenger โ€œauditionedโ€ both his understudies for the role. Marouane Chamakh started up front last night, Bendtner began life out on the right flank. Elsewhere Tomas Rosicky was the only survivor from Sundayโ€™s Carling Cup misery as Wenger blooded several youngsters and handed recalls to the likes of Abou Diaby, Denilson and Emmanuel Eboue.

Chamakhโ€™s opening goal (his first since November 27) from a Rosicky assist got the ball rolling and duly sparked Bendtner into goalscoring action. The Dane looped a header from a Kieran Gibbs cross for his opener, before blasting a fine cross-shot home for the Gunners third. His hat-trick was claimed from the spot after the lively Gibbs was hauled down.

While Bendtner presented his credentials as Van Persieโ€™s stand-in, the Arsenal boss took the opportunity to enlighten us further on the injury status of the Dutch striker in his post-match analysis. The verdict is that Van Persie will be out for four weeks โ€“ and that is Wengerโ€™s optimistic viewโ€ฆ

โ€œIt is a ligament at the back of the knee, a tear in the ligament. It is three to four weeks, I take the short delay because I am an optimist but it could be four. As well it is the international break during that period so is it three or four, for us it is the same.โ€

That would appear to pencil in a return for the league fixture with Blackpool on April 10, although Wenger admitted that, with such an injury, a setback is always a possibility.

โ€œLet’s hope he can play after the international break. I listen to what the medical people say to me and you never know, he can have a setback. You can never guarantee.โ€

Fantasy Managers certainly seem unlikely to hold on to Van Persie as an asset given his history of injuries and complications. There are numerous alternatives available, our current poll on the frontpage is currently canvassing opinion on the most likely. It will be interesting to see if Bendtner fares better in that particular vote after last nightโ€™s events. He currently has just 2% of your vote.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Is Cahill & VDV -> Nasri & Lamps for an 8 point hit worth it? Nasri has good fixtures and scores well without Fabs/RVP and I expect Chelsea to batter B'pool this w/e (Lampard should get some). On that note, are any of Chelsea's strikers better to have instead of Lamps?

id wait on VDV fitness confirmation. if declared fit, keep him and just do cahill->nasri IMO. I dont feel good about chelsea strikers ATM, but am looking to gradually bring in Luiz and lamps by GW32

Agree, I'd probably keep VdV even if not fit this week as I don't think he'll play the full 90 with AC next week anyway - but the next 3 look great for VdV

I know, I had an awful time trying to explain and justify my decision to SuperDunny on here last night, which is fair enough, I did a u-turn.

My reasons were simple though, RVP out for possibly 4 weeks, free transfer, Zigic is in good form, he has 2 games, 4 points at least, AND it allows me to do Giggs OUT Lampard IN if I am still feeling the urge on Saturday morning.

I guess you had Rooney already which narrowed down the options a bit. I'd have liked to do Odem to Zigic but I've got too many players out and RVP to Rooney seems like the most sensible transfer for me.

so Obafemi Martins is in no way on your map huh? McLeish can be squirmy, he started the 4-5-1 against Arsenal, but does go with the 4-4-2, and of course Zigic will exploit the WBA set piece frailty...

Don't think Spurs will have a double in GW33 - if Man City beat Reading in the cup the Man C/Spurs game will be postponed. This will also mean Man City will miss a week and have a double later on.

    Nasri AYoung VDV Nani (Brunt)
    Zigic Berbatov (Odemwingie)

Nice, you are going to have to start looking at Chelsea players though, could start to hurt not having them soon, Coleman OUT Luiz IN after City game I would say.

Nice looking team, I have a hunch for Berbatov this weekend, I think United will score 2-3, and if he starts, he will have an assist or goal or something to show for it in my view. If VDV plays, sweet, if not, Brunt is a waste of space at the moment, he should be a priority transfer out for you next week.

I would wait and see on Barton... Bendtner could be a punt, but I don't think it's fair to say that he is "nailed on" yet. Chamakh has always played in the lone striker role, when Bendtner has been present too. I could see some rotation.

Well I'm doing RVP out for someone and I'd rather get a differential.
I'll wait and see on Barton too. It's just me tinkering around with transfers at the moment.

I wouldn't say so, he hasn't fulfilled his attacking potential yet and he is one of the first players Mancini substitutes, so he could be off before 60 missing clean sheet bonus...having said that I have him and I'm playing him

That whole "off before 60" stuff ain't happening. Besides he's been playing in more of a midfield role for the expressed reason of NOT expecting anything ambitious defensively out of him. Beside mancini is getting Kompany, and DeJong back...he's good.

I'm looking to get some Chelsea coverage for the week ahead, I'm thinking that after beating Man Utd, they will be brimming with confidence against a weak Blackpool.

Who is the best prospect to get for Chelsea? I'm thinking Torres or Lampard...What do you guys think?

I think I'm going to have to take an 8 point hit this week to get lamps in. My closest rival has him, and I really think that he could do some damage against Blackpool this weekend, if Malouda was certain to play I play him for a differential.

No point if he is out for half the season, if his injury problems stopped I'd obviously love to keep him, but he can't be relied upon, and it's only going to get worse as he enters his late twenties. Controversial statement I know. At the very least an adequate replacement is required...Chamakh and Bendtner aren't good enough.

If the back-up strikers are Chamakh and Bendtner are going to be the back-up strikers Arsene needs to get out his cheque book and get a healthier first choice striker. Ideally, I'd like to see a higher quality back up...Chamakh and Bendtner are not good enough.

A team is going to struggle to win anything when their best striker gets injuries as much as he does with 2 jokers for back ups.

            Its not the simple.

Bar Messi there is no forward in world football able to play that well and more importantly suit the system Arsenal use. So its not a case of merely throwing money at something.

And the 2 "joke" back ups have very decent international records.

Many a hole in that idea.

I would say Arsenal's system is a lot easier to play in *and be active & successful, than say a chuckers like Stoke or Birm. And yes the reason why they are who they are is because there aren't many of them out there...given. A team like aresenal would be better suited to put an advance mid in the striker position as they typically try an walk the ball in.

Mines on Tevez but if I'm feeling brace (which I won't be), I may put it on any double GWers I get in

Does this team look reasonable this week without a hit?

      Foster
      Coleman Huth Djourou R Johnson
      Nani Young Arteta
      Rooney Tevez Zigic

      Bench: Begovic, Fabregas, Barton, Kelly

I would probably bench Huth if either Barton or Fabregas were passed fit.

Might as well start barton and put huth as first sub if that's the case. Barton either gonna start or not be in squad.

      Definite transfers:

      Cahill--> Nasri
      RVP --> Zigic

I’m tempted to also do Berbatov --> Rooney because I don’t think Berbs will play.

It’ll be an 8pt hit again though (2nd week on the trot) leaving me with:

      Foster
      Kolarov Coleman RJohnson (Huth, Kelly)
      Nasri Young Nani Barton (Walcott)
      Zigic Tevez(c) Rooney

Worth taking the hit?? If both RJohnson and Barton don't end up playing I'll be back down to 10 men...

I dont get why people say Bendtner is shit. When has he ever disappointed?

I would say people like Torres/Defoe/Berbatov are far more frustrating, and for a lot more cash.

REPOST BECAUSE NONE OF YOU LOVED ME ๐Ÿ™

I’ve already made a 4 point hit to field this team:

      Foster – Al Habsi
      Hangeland – Coleman – Walker – Gohouri – Perch
Nani – Van der Vaart – Downing – Arteta – Barton
      Tevez – Berbatov – Zigic

If we hear of VDV being out this weekend would a straight swap of-

VDV>(Fat, ugly, dirty, lameeee, ASSHOLE) Frank Lampard, be a good shout for another hit?
