By virtue of their 1-0 victory over Brian McDermott’s Reading this evening, Man City have provided the first real body blow to the fixture list following on from this weekend’s FA Cup action.

Roberto Mancini’s side now have a date with bitter rivals Manchester United at Wembley on the weekend of gameweek 33 (April 16/17) which means that their current fixture at home to Tottenham on said weekend is set to fall by the wayside for at least a week…

Fellow qualifiers Bolton, Manchester United and Stoke will also suffer the same fate and see their weekend fixture (vs Fulham, Newcastle and Wolves respectively) knocked off the calendar. In their situation there is a very strong case -but we cannot take it as read until official confirmation comes in- for their postponed matches to take place in the same gameweek and alongside the already scheduled midweek games of Chelsea vs Birmingham and Arsenal vs Tottenham, as has happened in previous seasons.

It is that aforementioned North London derby that also means Manchester City clearly cannot rearrange their game with Spurs for the same time. This means that Mancini’s men will now have a blank fixture in gameweek 33 and Redknapp’s double-header has now been pegged back to just a single game at home to Arsenal.

Rough planners can pencil in gameweek 36 (the only free midweek left this season without any European commitments) as a likely time for the fixture to now take place but, again, must be aware this is our educated guess and when we get official word on a date we will share it post haste.

Season Tickers will be updated shortly to represent this change to the schedule.

Really not happy with Nolan, A Young or Anelka recently, either!

Just tried to do a transfer plan and miserably failed, with the amount of injuries it is probably pointless anyway. Just going to take it one week at a time I think.

I have a lovely masterplan until the end of the season. Hopefully these potential fixture flibbertigibbets won't affect it too much.

I hate Man City, they're boring as hell. Screw them. RE: Koscielny, if Cesc is back then we're still going to have enough of the ball to not give away too many chances against lower table opponents. He's going to play every minute, he's a set-piece threat.

It's definitely best to have some sort of idea about what you plan to do, or else you could end up not being able to afford some player that you really want. But long transfer plans are pretty much pointless with players' fitness and fixtures subject to change... doesn't stop doing them from being really fun though!

I kind of wish that Nani was out for longer (not from a Chelsea perspective or anything!). Made some decent transfer plans assuming that he was going to miss two or so league games, and would return when the fixtures stiffened up - and those plans all included getting rid of him.

I assumed that most people would hold onto him, and that was part of the appeal about getting rid, but far more people (110k+) than I expected have transferred him out, so now the temptation is to keep him.

Now going to have to choose between VDV and Bale. Kind of liked the idea of having both, getting rid of Arteta and Nani for them. 🙁

Seemed to always work for my brother earlier on in the season. Did my head in! Plus, Spurs' fixtures are pretty amazing, although with CL commitments I guess they are both rotation risks for the next few weeks at least.

With so many early transfers, you have to assume that a fair number of the top 100k players are those that have sold him. I'm tempted to captain him vs Bolton now, even if we don't know that he's starting.

Hopefully he remains doubtful (or at least red flagged) right up until the end of the week, then a load more people will transfer him out!

Utd's next three are pretty easy, so his ownership being lower for those games will be nice, assuming he plays, at least in the two after Bolton.

I had them both for about three or four weeks, worked well once. Other than that it was a total pain in the arse. I do not recommend it. My midfield is going to be
      Nani, Lampard, VDV, Young, Nasri
by gameweek 32. Nasri is then getting shunted out for either a Wolves midfielder or probably Charlie Adam.

22.7 to replace Djourou, Arteta and Zigic.

Prob only replace 1 or 2 this week.

                    What difference does english make?

Its all about quality. As you admit he is unproven but we should spend 20mil on him.

And their are loads and loads of better cheaper, nearly as young with more experience around. Banega for one.

If you mean few DMs from Eng then true but nationality should have no baring.

Home grown rule for PL squads, and possible UEFA rules in the future. I would much prefer a Schweinsteiger or someone, but signing Rodweel wouldn't be the worst we could do.

Nationality is important. For a start, there are stipulations that say 8 of the 25 man squad must be homegrown. More importantly a British backbone is important, all the successful teams over the years have had them.

Spending 20mil on Rodwell would be up there with buying Bebe on current going.Home ruling or no home ruling you dont spend that money on players to get an extra english lad in the squad

He has done nothing to be worth that money.

haha! That article is written by Winter - who absolutely loves Rodwell!

I'm not saying that he won't turn out to be an excellent player, I just not understand all the hype when there hasn't been too much evidence of his talents whenever he's played for Everton.

I reckon he should become a centre back, isn't that how he started out?

IF fergie bought him, i doubt he'd move back to CB as he offers too much going forward as he annoyingly proved against Utd last season.

Winter does watch a lot of live football, he's seen a lot more of Rodwell than most of us.
Hs injury record for a young kid isn't great, that would be one reservation.

True, I'm only half joking anyway, but Winter does seem to have an unhealthy obsession with him.

The attraction with Rodwell is clear though, he's physically very good for his age and is comfortable enough on the ball, but he hasn't really showed any evidence of being worth in excess of 20 million, which is always the price he's quoted at.

The reservation i would have is if he cant still get in the Everton team now and when he has he has struggled to produce then there must be question marks over something
                    - be it his mentality , work ethic etc, something.

He hasnt progressed at all given the potential he seemed to have.

Moyes has never been afraid to put a young lad in the past. Yet Rodwell for all the hype is getting very few starts when fit.

He hasnt improved much as a player imo in past 18months but with every year comes another 5mil to this crazy transfer fee based on "potential"

Notice how one kid is now amongst the worlds best and coming off a stellar season and world cup

and the other is on the subs bench behind Osman in the pecking order yet to fulfil his promise shown in fleeting moments yet still talked about as a 25mill talent.

How much better football would be without gutter journos with their petty biased agendas.

                    Yes Winter is gutter.

Ive read him for years now to the point where (ask Jamsiep) I followed him on Twitter for merely 3months and sent about 10 tweets to him correcting mistakes he made over simple run of the mill things your average fan wouldnt say.

He eventually starting replying and trying to defend himself.

So theres the constant mistakes, mixing up facts etc to the ludicrous pro Eng crap (there are plenty of quality english journo's who dont play the lets all hype the english lads to sell newspapers).

His Beckham nonsense. 3 years ago under McClaren he wrote a piece saying Beckham had become a circus and should go.

Then Becks supports the Olympic games, WC, and suddenly Beckham now 2 years older slower should be back in the squad and he critises Capello for not picking him.

The man's views are only based on what will get him more readership.

There are loads (Sunday supplement nonsense about the WC) and i means loads of other stuff. The day Ronaldo retired was a great story where he highlighted his own inadequacy in his job without evening knowing

So yes he is gutter. Not fit to have the same job as Sid lowe, Sean Ingle etc. And whats worse is he gets paid well while being so utterly poor.

These are a few good, realistic signings i would do:

            Utd: Marin, Schweinsteiger
            Liverpool: Barton, N'Zogbia
            Arsenal: Hummels, Hazard

Who is better out of Subotic and Hummels? I've barely seen Dortmund play once all season.

Subotic is the one they always talk about, but he's always quoted at ridiculous prices.

Dortmund are so good to watch. Apart from on saturday afternoon when they were dreadful. Both of those defenders have been excellent when i've watched them play.

I said at the start of the season that I was going to watch a lot more domestic football from other European leagues, but - aside from Barca and Real - I've barely watched any, and it seems too late to start.

Hummels is rated as the best centre back in the Bundesliga, Subotic is decent too but Hummels is better all round. He's quicker and more comfortable on the ball.

              How are they deemed realistic?

Hazard is the only one there within an Ass's roar (feel free to use that 😉 ) of realistic due to Wengers French connections.

Talking of Wenger. I heard a great comment about his transfer policy today.
If a certain Tony Adams, say aged 24 was at say Villa, do you think he would be in the market for him? Most probably not.

He's obviously a proven international player granny but he was absolutely embarrassed by dortmund last month. That ruined it slightly for me! Also, Bayern certainly aren't a selling club (remember it took about 5 years to get hargreaves and even then they must have known he was crocked). I think he just signed a new contract with Bayern too.

                😀

So I had a long look at Alexi Sanchez earlier, admittedly on YouTube.

I know we all agreed that he was all flair no end product in the World Cup but he's on 12 goals and 6 assists from 26 games for Udinese this season and their all absolute stormers where he usually picks up the ball in his own half and dribbles the entire opposing team and the keeper himself. He could be something!

I really rate Götze and Pastore too though, although I think Pastore might need to add muscles to cope with playing centrally in England.

We don't need Sanchez imo, also I watched him closely for 90 minutes in a game he scored in this season and he was dirt, constantly moaning at his team mates and losing the ball.

Not any sort, got to be a strong box to box man. As much as I like Modric, he would never fit into our 4-4-2. BTW what did you think of Valencia yesterday? I think his contribution last year was underrated just because he wasn't Ronaldo.

I thought he looked very sharp, had a lot of confidence for a man just coming back from injury, crossing was rusty but I was happy with his performance, linked up with hernandez very well as well I thought. I agree with you there tbh.

Agree with the Modric point - I think it's a good observation.

I really rate Modric and I think he's one of the best players in the league, but SAF has always opted for strength (combined with skills - not goons) in the middle and creativity and pace in wide positions. Modric would require the whole system to be remade for United imo.

Took a completely unnecessary drunken 12 pointer last night! Have ended up with the following...

Apart from the appearance of Defoe and the loss of 12 points, I am relatively happy with the result

    Foster (Begovic)

    Walker Huth Coleman Coralov Johnson

    VDV Nasri Lampard Young Barton

    Defoe Saha Rooney

Enough to upgrade Kolarov to Luiz at some point. Probably going to save next weeks transfer and unless Saha is on fire, dump him for Welbeck. This will allow me to bring in RVP and (possibly) Torres for the DGW.

That Gul bet looks very decent.. Not sure about the Seelaar one though. The Bangladeshis are naturally good players of spin, and won't be throwing their wickets away like the Indian batsmen did against Seelaar. Some rutter like ten Doeschate will probably be their best bowler just by bowling at the death and taking cheap wickets there.

amazingly rao seems to be a big game player. his worst performance all world cup (the game i had him) was the one he was tipped to be the main man in. against the top sides he's done pretty well. he ran a single today that was so slow he almost got run out from despite the throw coming from the boundary. hero

Sounds stupid but I'm actually thinking of getting Torres this week, it is a big gamble but I'm bored of playing safe all the time.

His first goal will come soon, he has the double coming up and have a feeling Chelsea against Man City at the weekend is going to be a high scoring one, two teams that have nothing to lose imo.

Why don't you just get Lampard instead? He has a 6.9% ownership, so it's actually a safe differential with the knowledge that he could play rubbish and still get a penalty and bonus points

Would probably be more logical to do that, I do want a Chelsea player though as soon as possible, think they're going to go on a hot streak soon.

Could do Tevez, Zigic & Brunt > Van Persie, Zamora/Carroll & Lampard. 8 point hit though!

Initially I was just going to do the same old boring transfers, Zigic > Van Persie & Brunt > Bale.

Probably but don't really want to spend more than 4 points this week, been taking too many point hits lately!

I could simply just do Brunt > Lampard and Tevez > Van Persie but would have to play one of either Barton or Zigic if Nani doesn't make it.

I hear ya. The thing is my defence has got me toss-all pts this season anyway, and thats with more expensive players... so wouldn't be too worried with playing 2 cheapies alongside Foster & Walker every week.

I think that is pretty close to a dream team front 7 which would more than make up for any lack of cleansheets.
