By virtue of their 1-0 victory over Brian McDermott’s Reading this evening, Man City have provided the first real body blow to the fixture list following on from this weekend’s FA Cup action.

Roberto Mancini’s side now have a date with bitter rivals Manchester United at Wembley on the weekend of gameweek 33 (April 16/17) which means that their current fixture at home to Tottenham on said weekend is set to fall by the wayside for at least a week…

Fellow qualifiers Bolton, Manchester United and Stoke will also suffer the same fate and see their weekend fixture (vs Fulham, Newcastle and Wolves respectively) knocked off the calendar. In their situation there is a very strong case -but we cannot take it as read until official confirmation comes in- for their postponed matches to take place in the same gameweek and alongside the already scheduled midweek games of Chelsea vs Birmingham and Arsenal vs Tottenham, as has happened in previous seasons.

It is that aforementioned North London derby that also means Manchester City clearly cannot rearrange their game with Spurs for the same time. This means that Mancini’s men will now have a blank fixture in gameweek 33 and Redknapp’s double-header has now been pegged back to just a single game at home to Arsenal.

Rough planners can pencil in gameweek 36 (the only free midweek left this season without any European commitments) as a likely time for the fixture to now take place but, again, must be aware this is our educated guess and when we get official word on a date we will share it post haste.

Season Tickers will be updated shortly to represent this change to the schedule.

    Apologies if this has been asked before, but since one of Stoke/Bolton will be in the Fa Cup final, does that mean that the sixth placed side in the PL no longer gets into the Europa league?

          Exactly. Pretty funny if you ask me. And probably good for them too, why travel all over Europe to play a competition nobody cares about before the final.

          Europa League is just Carling Cup but with long flights to the games.

      Pretty much. Chin up Liverpool! Although if they win the Europa League (and finish below 5th) does that mean that the 5th placed team also misses out on the Europa League?

          Cause I guess if they win it they qualify, and Brum and Stoke/Bolton are already through, and only 3 English clubs qualify.

              The winner of the Bolton/Stoke FA semi-final will qualify since the other side in the FA Cup final will be Utd/City who presumably will have qualified for the UCL.

                i thought only the winner would qualify

                and if the winner is already in the cl then it would revert to the league placings

                  I think if the winner is in CL then they check the other finalist, but if that one is in CL too, then they go to league placings..

                    They didn't apply for a UEFA club license for 2010-11. Without the licence a club is not permitted to play in European competition.

                    Not sure how accurate wiki is on this..

                    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premier_League#Qualification_for_European_competitions

                    "If one of the cup winners qualifies for Europe through their league position, the sixth-placed team in the Premier League will qualify for the Europa League. If both of the cup winners qualify for the Champions League through their league position, the sixth and seventh-placed teams in the Premier League will qualify for the Europa League."

                    So should man u/man c win, the 6th place team gets it. Right?

      6th place still makes it into the Europa league, unless Stoke or Bolton actually win the FA cup. The 3 guaranteed Europa league places by default go to: (1) the 5th place team, (2) the FA cup winner, and (3) the Carling Cup winner. Brum's cup win has made making it to the FA cup semis irrelevant as far as the Europa league is concerned.

    Desperate to try and find some cash to fund a Cahill->Lampard move for my team. I need to find 2.9 from this lot. I'm looking at downgrading Kolarov to Dawson but I need to trim more fat off the team. Any suggestions?

    Foster (Begovic)
    Coleman Vidic Walker Kolarov Simpson
    Nani (Is he fit for Bolton or not?) Nasri Adam (Cahill and Barton)
    Rooney Tevez (Odemwingie)

        I may just bench him. I'll need too to play VDV and Nani. If Nani doesn't featue he's always there just incase he starts and pops up with a goal. On the otherhand I don't think he'll be risked against Wigan with him struggling to be fit, Birmingham should have enough to grab a win.

            Not so quite damn dan. Its not on total fpl. Andy has discovered the secret rule about protections and told around here, I think it was this late several weeks ago. Jamsiep was here and somebody else. After that Andy deleted the comments, so we don't know about that bloody protection rule. It is not fair if I am asked but so be it.

            P.S. That silly rule owes me 0.3 on RVP BTW.

                Andy knows. He discovered around 1 year ago. I have read that article that u r sending around 3 years ago. Fiso and Total FPL aren't certain but one fellow scout is. And they (Andy and Jamsiep) are certain that, apparently is quite simple and its not to much connected with numbers. SO we can try all together to work it out, if everybody starts to think loud.

                P.S. Adam didn't rose BTW, as Jamsiep predicted.

                    Never mind Dan I don't want to change your opinion. U don't have to trust me. I had those comments bookmarked but earlier comments are deleted after a while.

    Lads is there a possibility if City don't go throw in the Europa League to have double earlier that GW 33, I mean for them to bring the game proposed for GW 33 earlier?

    It means Tot having double earlier also. Which made me think Tot are throw in the CL 😉 so no chance I guess? Or? If Tot loose in quarter final then? Possibly earlier double or?

        They go hand in hand imo. The guy leading the Millionaire Club is 31st overall. Outside one new team created for the Millionaire Club & another team, 21 of the top 23 in the updated table are inside 13K overall. You just had a bad week to get knocked out. The FPL Open is another matter as it's H2H & you won't be focusing on your opponent unlike others.

      Just saw that my opponent in the FPL Open have basically the same team as I have.
      Differentials:
      Friedel vs Begovic
      RJohnson vs Djourou (probably not applicable)
      Barton vs Jarvis
      Berbatov vs Odemwingie

      Looks about even with an edge to him as he has 8.4 in the bank.

            Kelly should be back for the West Brom game. Djourou won't be back until next season...

      Nice team. If you see my transfer plan below I want to get in 3 of your players.

      I am thinking of (C) Either A.Young, VDV or Valencia.

        i think vdv might be a good punt, but a young and valencia seem a little risky. and i heard nani might even be back for the bolton game, so i wouldn't jump the gun and trade him. and i would keep evra for this week. so maybe just do barton to nasri and clark to luiz for this week.

          Captains poll suggests VDV and RVP as the second and third most likely captain choices this week respectively. Bit weird considering both aren't 100% certain to play.

    12 point hit to do.

    Evra -> Huth
    Barton -> Nasri
    Nani -> Valencia
    Clark -> Luiz

      Never do a 12 point hit. Even 8 point hits should be done with extreme caution.

        I know! I haven't took an 8 pointer all season (Max has been 4), I love your name btw, will change mine to similar when I get in. Big game tonight, with nearly everyone else dropping points. I could just do the midfield switches, or leave out one of the defence switches.

          Grant Holt is the one player I'd turn gay for. Absolute idol in my eyes. I'm getting up early to go to the gym and then make sure I'm home in time to watch the game. I can only catch the first half before school so that's not great.

          I thought you'd know better than an 8 point hit mate! Are you thinking of getting any Spurs coverage? Because getting Defoe might really work out if you want him. But do the midfield trades first.

    Right I've got a two week transfer plan. Anyone got time to rate it?

    This week: Tevez->Defoe
    Next week: Cahill->Lampard + Vidic->Ivanovic (4 point hit)

    I know a lot of people will suggest Luiz, but my rival has him and I'll be kissing his arse if I get him in. Here's what my preferred XI will look like after the trades. Any more suggested trades?

    Foster (Begovic)
    Kolarov Coleman Ivanovic Walker (Simpson)
    Nani Adam Lampard Nasri (Barton)
    Rooney Tevez (Odemwingie)

        I did like the idea of Defoe, but now the fixtures are up in the air, I'm going to be more cautious. I have already got Lampard. The comment I would make is that you don't have enough Everton, imo - and I wouldn't have Barton as well as Adam ...

      Absolutely... if anything to guard against everyone else having him (which I'm sure they do). It'd be like going into Man U vs West Brom with Nani, you'd be watching from the behind the sofa.

          Yep, the majority do have him. I will bring him in and captain him as soon as I have confirmation of him playing. Would love Umar Akmal to play and be given the gloves too.

      Pretty much, yeah. He's been pretty ruthless - at least with the ball - against the lesser sides so far.

      Tamim getting a duck was much appreciated, I bet there are a fair few out there who had him captain.

    Well this is a little annoying for GW 33 but i was thinking only Bale for it anyhow

    Other thoughts is City look utter tosh right now and i'm thinking its time to chuck Carlos for RVP right now..

      I'd still get Bale, Tottenham's fixtures are still excellent without the double.

      Agreed on Tevez, I was initially thinking of waiting a couple of weeks to make that move, but in all likelihood I'll now be making it this week.

    A little lightbulb went ping! when I thought I just thought about Everton. Now that Arteta is out, who else is going to take the FKs and corners? Baines has next to no competition for them now. I have to get him.
