We now have confirmation of dates for the last two remaining fixtures rescheduled in light of the FA Cup semi-finals. This time the chips didn’t fall exactly where we predicted, but it’s added a nice little twist to the run-in.

Fulham will now play host to Bolton on Wednesday April 27, while the night before we will see Stoke face Wolves at the Britannia…

What this means for Fantasy Managers is a full quarter of our Premier League stable (Man City, Fulham, Bolton, Stoke & Wolves) now face a confirmed gameweek 33 blank fixture, but to make up for that, all will have a double-gameweek to follow shortly after. As already confirmed, City will get their double-header in gameweek 36, while the remaining four clubs will now contest their matches in gameweek 34.

Looking at the fixtures around this new double gameweek, it raises a few question marks on the potential of heavy investment in the teams involved.

With their next three gameweeks looking decidedly nasty [CHE, tot, —], Stoke look a very questionable proposition, with Robert Huth owners set to consider their options. The allure of the double fixture does then lead into a reasonable run of opponents [avl/WLV, bpl, ARS, mcy, WIG], but clean sheets still look hard to come by in that run.

Wolves appear to offer more promise, and their closing season run [FUL/stk, bir, WBA, sun, BLA] could encourage Fantasy investment, particularly in midfield areas where Jamie O’Hara and Matt Jarvis are beginning to earn attention. Right now, they look set to be the likely key targets for gameweek 34.

Fulham may have a nice home tie with Blackpool this week, but everything around their newly appointed double fixture looks tough. Their schedule from gameweek 32 onwards is what nightmares are made of [mun, —, wlv/BOL, sun, LIV, bir, ARS]. Bolton’s double meanwhile, isn’t a hugely attractive one, but with kind opponents to follow ARS/ful, bla, SUN, bpl, MCY] they may yet earn some Fantasy suitors; the problem here is isolating a potential target with Daniel Sturridge perhaps the leading candidate.

Fantasy Managers must now analyse their squads to decipher how exactly they can navigate the tricky no-fixture zone of gameweek 33, whilst still coming out on top in the double gameweek that follows. You can of course look forward to our regular “Scouting the Doubles” articles leading up to all these fixtures to help you assess your options, and this situation is just crying out for the “Masterplan” treatment – expect that very soon.

Season tickers will be updated shortly the represent these new (and quite possibly last of the season) changes to the Fantasy calendar.

Apparently Parker started with Wilshere in training and likewise Dawson with Terry so:

      Hart
      Johnson Dawson Terry Cole
      Lennon Wilshere Parker Milner
      Rooney
      Bent

With big lump Carroll on at half time. I'm more tempted to watch Germany tbh.

It's going to be so Ugly. If he does start Parker why not give Lampard the free role with Wilshere in a 433. Get Welbeck or Cleverley involved on the left!

          Hart
          Walker Dawson Terry Cole
          Wilshere Parker FatFrank
          Lennon Rooney Welbeck/Tc

Lampard is the best fit English central midfielder so it would make sense to fit him in.

The anti lampard bias is pathetic really. Is Parker/Barry better than him? No. even if Lampard has to curb his attacking instinct for the sake of the team.

I'm not anti lampard atall. However, if he plays his beloved 442 with wilshere and lampard he'll prob put wilshere in the holding role. Something which he has alluded to before. This would be like travelling back in time to the old gerrard lampard days of old

yeah except Wilshere has a bit more positional discipline than Gerrard. I agree Lampard is better in a 3 but he has been playing in a 4-4-2 recently and has the experience.

Gerrard and Lampard could have played together if they were played in a 3. It is the incompetence of the managers we have had since Venables who have wanted to play in their system rather than looking at the players we have. With the current players we have a 4-3-3 is a far better system as it becomes a 4-5-1 agains the better sides when we lose the ball so we dont get over run.

and Lamps has demonstrated that he's *just* good enough to get England through qualifiers. Meh.

The shifting of one player shouldn't destroy the entire team ... and Lamps has had his spot uncontested for far too long. Frankly, I don't rate him on the int'l team.

And - no disrespect for Wales, here - if Englan fail to beat Wales, with whatever lineup, then not qualifying is doing all England a massive favor.

check out his stats for the last 6 or 7 years.

Clearly good enough, the champions league is of a far higher standard than international football and he has excelled in that competition.

I don't rate him 'on the int'l team'

I'm not interested in his performance four years ago against Andorra or the Faroe Islands ... I simply don't think that he fits with the team, nor does the team fit well around him.

And CL? Higher standard played with better players. Will Lampy have Essien and Drogs today vs. Wales? No? "Meet Mr. Bench"

I'm not trying a WUM here ... I know Lamps is a quality player - I'm just suggesting that perhaps looking elsewhere may provide new answers for the team.

shows how pointless stats can be really. I dont like Parker but he is a more effective player than Barry. Neither of them should be in the England Squad. I agree with Atilla that Barton should be in there on this seasons form.

Why just assume that Parker is more effective than Barry, despite the stats clearly not supporting that idea? West Ham are 17th in the league for f*cks sake!

I think Scott Parker's stats are more impressive than Barry's.

Scott Parker is playing in a terrible West Ham team and is MUCH more adventurous going forward than Barry.

We'll ignore the passing and tackling stats because there is only a measly 2% in them.

They've both played about 30 league games, with Parker mustering far more successful dribbles and shots than Barry. Lol, Barry's phenomenal 40% Shot Accuracy is courtesy of a miserable 4 shots on target. So we'll ignore those stats as well.

So you're down to saying Barry is better in the air than Parker. Ok.

But their roles in their respective sides are completely different though, and you'd expect Barry to have attempted significantly fewer shots and dribbles.

When they've both attempted so many tackles/passes, I don't think you can just immediate dismiss the stats because there is 'only a measly 2% in it'.

Point taken though, and I'm not using these stats to say for definite that Barry is a superior player to Parker, I'm just making the point that the difference in the public opinion of the two players is completely unsupported by the stats.

Using these stats to prove anything doesn't really work, but I'd say Parker comes out on top using them.

Barry's role at City IS different to Parker, so you'd expect him to have superior passing and tackling stats, and I think the fact there's only 2% reflects badly on Barry rather than Parker. Parker has to pass further up the pitch and tackle everyone, whereas Barry sits and 'puts out fires'.

Since when has the public not liking/acknowledging a good defensive midfielder been a surprise?

Agreed that that bunch seem to like the ball played to feet, so narrow-ness might not be fatal on offense.

Just seems the narrow game is much easier to defend against, thus playing into Wales' gameplan.

At least, that was my thesis for my final international managing badges 😉

The players at Villa seem to think the same. Villa will just about survive this season then the board should admit defeat and sack houllier. I pity the club he goes to next!

I think Sri Lanka i'd be supporting Sri Lanka to win the WC if they go through today, they've always been an incredible ODI side and very entertaining style of play in both batting and bowling. It would be good for the country to win a WC, which Australia have been hogging since '99! Murali deserves a medal too.

I care despite this current generation of England players letting everyone down so often. I think a new manager, and a focus on a new younger side would work well. We should follow the German's lead with that.
Capello is a massive let down though, I was really excited when he took over but his tactics and selection policy is poor.

Problem is, we don't have the players to follow Germany's lead. Im not being biased, but Wilshere is the only talented youngster i have seen. Kelly looks promising. I can't comment on mceachran because i haven't seen enough of him. Rodwell looks over-rated.

Everytime he played for Chelsea it looked like he wasn't trying particularly hard. But at Bolton he has shown some very promising signs and his finishing is very good.

exactly. i remember being so excited about tournaments in 90, 96, 98, and 2002 but as i have got older it doesnt have the same excitement around it.

The last world Cup would put anyone off. It isnt much of an exaggeration to say that the 3 England group games were 3 of the worst matches in the tournament.

            * i have also not forgiven ITV for missing the gerrard goal after 3 mins of USA game. probably the only highlight of the english performance out there.

Make the Euros and World Cup top 16 teams (top 10 in rankings plus 6 qualifiers) only with a qualifying tournament for the others. Get each tournament over in 2 weeks and lets concentrate on domestic football.

Thing is, if England qualified automatically each time (as they probably would under that rule) then you'd just have two years of friendlies. They'd still need to play the games to pay off Wemberly.

they would be in the same position as the other top 10 sides so no disadvantage there.

might make "meaninless" friendlies a little bit more meaningful.

I think there are little things that could make us more interested in it...

As laughable as this sounds, I'd have all the players singing their hearts out for the national anthem. I'd also instruct them to go mental when they score. These two little things seem to matter to the general public, so just make the players do it ffs!

The French now make everyone sing and it hasn't hindered them.

Was reading yesterday about how Kallis doesn't sing the South African national anthem, some story about one (maybe even both) of his parents dying.. I didn't fully understand why it means he doesn't sing it, but apparent there is a decent reason for it...

He used to get loads of stick for it apparently.

How much effort is it really?

I honestly think if they just sang it with some enthusiasm rather than just moving the lips or not bothering, the public's attitude would change considerably.

i couldnt care less abiout the national anthem, i would just like to see them play with the intensity they do for their clubs.

otherwise what is the point? we are not going to win anything becasue of our superior technique but we can with intensity, power and pace.
