The international break has brought our Fantasy dealings to an uncomfortable halt – a most untimely distraction that can furrow brows with further injury concerns.

To this point, the majority of Fantasy Managers will have come out of the weekend unscathed, but with Tuesday’s round of qualifiers and friendlies to come, here’s a few scribbles on some notable events of the last 48-hours…

Kevin Doyle is, so far, the only major casualty of the weekend. That will provide little compensation for Wolves who are now facing up to their season run-in without their influential strike. Doyle suffered a knee injury in Saturday’s 2-1 win for the Republic of Ireland over Macedonia after just 15 minutes. Republic boss Giovanni Trapattoni was not optimistic in his post-match analysis…

“It’s his medial knee ligament. I think he may be out for one or two months, so it’s a very serious injury.”

There is no official reaction from the Wolves camp just yet but Mick McCarthy will no doubt be devastated by the news. Sylvan Ebanks-Blake now looks set to lead the attack for the remaining fixtures. Blake is a 4.9 prospect in the Fantasy Premier League game and may earn some interest if Wolves continue their strong form over what is a favourable schedule of fixtures. Nenad Milijas could also have his stock improved as a result of gaining spot-kick duties from Doyle, although Stephen Hunt is another candidate here having recently declared himself fit for a return.

Man City remain hopeful that Micah Richards will recover from a hamstring injury to be in contention for their FA Cup semi-final with United on April 16. Richards sustained the injury whilst on duty with England’s U21’s – forced off after just 4 minutes of Thursday’s 4-0 win. Richards is certain to miss league fixtures against Sunderland and Liverpool, with either Jereome Boateng or Pablo Zabaleta set for the right-back role. The latter would seem very doubtful having been granted indefinite compassionate leave to be at the bedside of his seriously ill father in Argentina. It means that Boateng looks set for the shirt, which would seem to assure Aleksandar Kolarov’s place at left-back for gameweek 31 at least.

The Gareth Bale situation going into gameweek 31 looks precarious for his Fantasy owners. Bale was forced out of Wales’ clash with England with a hamstring injury which may or may not have occurred whilst in training with his national side. Regardless, Bale will now be a doubt for the trip to Wigan next weekend. Harry Redknapp has recently confirmed that Bale has not suffered a serious setback, however, it’s clear that he will take no risks with his star asset…

“The first I heard of it was at 10 o’clock on Wednesday night when our physio called
me. I feared the worst but he’s seen our physio and it’s only tightness…There’s no tear but if he plays and it pings, he’s had it.”

Saturday’s Wigan clash immediately precedes the first leg of the Champions League tie with Real Madrid on Tuesday. If there is any doubt over Bale’s hamstring, he will surely sit out of the DW Stadium trip.

On that note, Both Luka Modric and Rafael Van der Vaart started their respective friendlies this weekend. Modric played 90 minutes in Croatia’s 1-0 defeat in Greece, while Van der Vaart was withdrawn on 81 minutes having scored in Holland’s 4-0 over Hungary.

Nikola Zigic was kept out of Serbia’s 2-1 win over Northern Ireland on Friday with his groin injury still troubling him. Birmingham have been sweating on the big striker’s fitness ahead of the international break and are hopeful that, although Zigic has joined up with the Serbian squad, he will be kept out of the action. Serbia face Estonia in a second qualifier on Tuesday – it will be interesting to see if Zigic makes an appearance in that one. The lumbering centre-forward could well be a target for Fantasy Managers once fit given Birmingham’s forthcoming schedule (BOL bla SUN/che liv WOL new).

Javier Hernandez scored twice in Mexico’s 3-1 friendly win over Paraguay – a timely reminder, if Alex Ferguson really needed one, of the “Little Pea’s” current run of form.

West Ham fans will have admired Scott Parker’s showing for England in the 2-0 win over Wales but he wasn’t their only player to come out of the weekend with plaudits. Demba Ba continued his run of outstanding displays by grabbing a late winner for Senegal in the 1-0 African Nations Cup qualifier in Cameroon. The form of such key player bodes well for Avram Grant ahead of what is quite simply a tortuous run of forthcoming fixtures (MUN bol AVL che mcy).

Finally, Luis Suarez has been recalling his first month of action in the Premier League, predictably emphasising that he’s never experienced such a frantic pace. Significantly however, Suarez also came out with this…

“In other leagues defences play very tight but here you get space. I’m enjoying it.”

Suarez may have been referring to his recent goal at Sunderland in that respect – perhaps not the best example of Premier league defending right now. Even so, it’s food for thought given the goalscoring record of the Uruguayan before arriving in England. Suarez has so far notched 2 goals and 3 assists in his four Premier League starts and Fantasy Managers are beginning to take notice. Suarez has so far attracted over 27,000 new owners this gameweek, bettered only by Robin Van Persie, Charlie Adam and David Luiz.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Arteta -> Adam or Dempsey this week?

    Tough call that one, but i'd go for Dempsey as Fulham have been pretty good defensively at home.
    Of course Adam tends to get Bonus points tho...luckily i have both tho!

    Anyone have any thoughts on:
    a)
    A.Young->Lampard
    Tevez->Carroll

    or

    b)
    A.Young->VDV
    Tevez->Rooney?

      What's the rest of your squad? Don't fancy Carroll until GW34. Perhaps A Young -> Lampard and Tevez -> Gyan/Defoe?

    Foster, Stockdale
    Baines, Coleman, Kolarov, Kelly, Djourou
    Nani, VDV, Nasri, A Young, Arteta
    RVP, Berbatov, Zigic
    Bank 1.2m

    Initial plan this week was Arteta -> Adam, but then the problem of who to drop for Lamps in GW32 is causing me grief. Tough. So now considering the below - leaves me very light up front (i.e. I would be rotating Welbeck & Zigic for the next few GWs) but solid everywhere else. Any opinions greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    GW31: Arteta & Berba -> Lampard & Welbeck (4 points)
    GW32: Kolarov -> Luiz
    GW33: Djourou & A Young -> Terry & Adam (4 points)

      the transfers you've suggested are pretty similar to what I recommended about 3 pages ago for you.

      I would downgrade Coleman to Walker or Smalling and do Arteta to Adam this week.

      Nasri can go for Lamps next week, and if you have enough left over you can do Kolarov to Luiz.

      I'd keep Young too as he's more vital to his team than Nasri.

        Nasri is a tricky one - if it wasn't for Arsenal's next 3 weeks, including a double then he'd be off. I'm thinking about doing the above and then Nasri -> Dempsey in GW34 for the Fulham double.

        I don't think Adam is essential until GW33, likewise Lampard isn't essential until GW32. I think it all boils down to not wanting to ditch a DGWer the week before his double. Also, A Young's fixtures from GW33-35 include 2 away games which Villa have really struggled with this season.

          Its up to you as it's your team.

          But do you really believe that, as soon as Walcott and Fabs come back, Nasri is going to do anything? Also, don't be binded by dgw fever which makes us keep or bring in players just because they have a double.

          I'm willing to risk losing Nasri from my team this week on the basis that I think Adam in 2 games will outscore Nasri's 3 with ease.

          I have also repeatedly said that Arsenal's double isn't a very good one. Liverpool and Spurs does not scream goalfest at me.

          If you aren't interested in keeping Young then why not take out him and Arteta and get Lamps and O'Hara? You could save your transfers and do them next week for no hit.

    Thanks Jinswick.

    My team at present is:

    Hart
    Baines Smalling Luiz
    Dempsey Adam A.Young Nasri Nani
    Tevez RVP

    Subs: Foster, Zigic, Coleman, Evatt

    Was tempted by VDV against Wigan but unsure if he'll get good game time with Real Madrid the week after.

    Thanks for the advice, i like the Lampard/Defoe combination.

    All the best.

      Your team is pretty solid this week before transfers, so unless you have 2 free I definitely wouldn't take a hit. If it were me I'd probably save the transfer and then, depending on funds, do Dempsey & Tevez -> Lampard & one of Defoe/Gyan/Welbeck in GW32. You can get Dempsey back in GW34 for Nasri if needed.

    Mulling over my options for gwk 32 and 33 but there's so many options out there

    i only have 0.3m in bank . Either save a transfer or do both in 33. Need some inspiration

            I've suggested to him several times to get rid of Arteta for Adam this week and downgrade Coleman. He has Baines already so no need for both Everton defs.

            Those transfers should leave him able to get Lamps in in gw32. If not, then he can do Berbs to Gyan which I think is a much better move than Berbs to Welbeck.

            That should leave enough cash for Luiz in gw33.

              I don't think it's as nailed on as the impression you give. I'm pretty confident Lampard will outscore Adam over the next 2 GWs. Also, I can't afford Lampard with your route so it would mean losing Berba at home to Fulham (probably not too clever) and it also leaves Kolarov in my team which isn't ideal. The 2 routes look like being:

              A)
              GW31: Arteta & Berba -> Lampard & Welbeck (4 points)
              GW32: Kolarov -> Luiz
              GW33: Djourou & A Young -> Terry & Adam (4 points)

              B)
              GW31: Arteta -> Adam
              GW32: Coleman, Nasri & Berba -> Luiz, Lampard & Gyan (8 points)
              GW33: Kolarov -> x?

              Tricky....any other thoughts?

                Ok, only trying to help.

                Have you considered some Wolves mf cover? Cheap as chips and as productive as Young.

                With the money already in your bank could you keep Nasri and Berbs doing it that way?

                  Yeah i know - I appreciate your feedback as it gets me thinking! 🙂

                  Hmmm, I'd be keen on O'hara but I think I want Adam and Lampard more...also I should probably get some more Chelsea cover in before their good run.

                  Agree with you on not needing both Coleman and Baines - any value in ditching Baines to create extra funds elsewhere?

                    Dont ditch Baines.

                    I have Coleman and Baines, and Coleman is being sold to make funds for Luiz (in two weeks time).

                    This week (if you're interested), Ill be getting Hoillet and Adam (for Barton+Zigic), next week will be Coleman-> someone cheap, thereafter Huth->Luiz (I have Begovic for Stokes double).

    Currently have Tevez and bit reluctant to get rid (lose 0.8m), but hoping i'll be able to get him back by GW35.

          I have resisted investing in defense all season but I think now is the right time to do it, because the more expensive options further up the pitch are not inspiring much confidence.

          I'm planning Terry Luiz Baines for GW 33.

      Of course your team. Lampard, VDV, RVP, Baines - all fantastic. Consider: Zigic->Hoillet + Huth->Luiz, since Stoke's fixtures toughen and you have Begovic for their double, and Zigic is perpetually doubtful and its too painful.

        Yup that's roughly what I'm thinking for the next 3 GWs (1 hit):

        Djourou > Luiz, Huth > Terry, Coleman > Walker, Zigic > Welbeck/Hoillet

        I dunno how the guy on top has been doing it because his team always looks sh*t! But ya, quietly confident 😛

    Advice please: Front 3 reads Rooney, Tevez, Saha

    I was going to shift Saha anyways, but is Tevez a doubt and what should I be considering? Team Reads (try not to laugh too much!)

    Foster
    Johnson Coleman Huth Clark Elmo
    Barton Bale Nasro Lamps Fergie

    Oh, and 0.00 in the bank since Fat Frank came in!

    Cheers

      You're not actually set up too bad for this GW. But it looks like your team has suffered for Frank's sake. Low team value?
