To celebrate the return of gameweek action, I decided to have a little fun with our partnership with Paddy Power and our regular Scout Picks selection and attempt to put our “money where our mouth is”. The hypothesis behind the “Fantasy Flutter” is simple – take a tenner and spread it over some bets influenced by the Scout Picks and see what’s left in the kitty once the dust settles.

Starting at the back, I’ve taken the gamble to include City’s Aleksandar Kolarov despite concerns over his chances of claiming a clean sheet, so let’s at least back his attacking credentials. Paddy has set us up with some “Specials” here and are offering 5/1 (6.00) on the Serb scoring anytime, with 14/1 (15.0) on him notching from a direct from a free-kick. We’ll take some of that action, although let’s not go mad – we’ll put a quid on each.

I’m pretty confident about Fulham’s chances against Blackpool and although Clint Dempsey is set to remain in midfield, he remains a major goal threat and could find some joy against Ian Holloway’s obliging rearguard. He has short odds on anytime goalscorer at 11/10 (2.10), so we’ll take advantage of some more Paddy specials and back him for first goal at 9/2 (5.50). Dempsey has scored first six times this season so we’ll show some confidence on this one and bung £4 Paddy’s way.

With Samir Nasri in our Scout Picks midfield, he gets backed for returns against Blackburn. He’s strongly fancied for anytime scorer at “evens” but we’ll take that given that the Frenchman is also party to Paddy’s Money Back Special. If scores the last goal of this game, Paddy will refund our bet. That seems fair enough, so let’s chuck another £2 on this one. Paddy has some more specials on Nasri right here if you fancy something a little different.

Finally let’s put what’s left of our tenner on some cheeky multiples. We’ve got our usual Clean Sheet Accumulator of course, with Paddy offering 9/1 (10.0) on shutouts for Arsenal (vs BLA), Man City (vs SUN) and Everton (vs AVL) – we’ll put a quid on that just for the hell of it. Our final slice of the pot can go on a double – we will back Frank Lampard and Luis Suarez to both notch away from home at Stoke and West Brom respectively – we’re lay down our last quid on that one, with £6.50 coming our way if that comes in.

We’ll revisit our “Fantasy Flutter” once the gameweek has passed, while Paddy’s very latest odds on the gameweek will arrive tomorrow morning in “Paddy Says”.

If you want to have a couple of punts of your own, a reminder that Paddy Power is still offering £20 of bets for free for those who sign-up and bet a tenner. Click here to get involved.

This offer is only available to those aged 18 and over and is subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Anyone noticed how you can (fairly reliably) work out your rivals' transfer before the deadline?

      yup. work out how much money they have the day before and then the day after. Check who rose and fallen. Then see how many transfers made and then rest is guess work

        Bingo. I just thought of it and felt proud of myself but guess its common knowledge amongst the guys on this forum? Still, nice to know who my rivals bought! Vdv and luiz for my 2 main rivals, I'm pretty sure!

          If they don't know, it freaks them out to name their transfers on mini-league forum before deadline. 🙂

      Squad value,History and Transfer history gives a pretty good clue.More difficult if they make two or more TFs.

        Yeah but for one transfer I can be almost certain especially when I've got a good idea who they transferred out. Doesn't make much difference though because I don't believe in all this differential business. Maybe this knowledge could affect my bench sometime though.

      Yeah.

      Mine has done Tevez to RVP. Shame as he now has Suarez, RVP and Chicarito.

      I have Bent, RVP and Zigic. Not good.

      He also has Arsenal defender and Silva. I sense my 31 point lead gets eaten away this week. As well as inevitably losing to Katie's "mum" in the FPL open.

          She was snooping because her 'mum' has me in the FPL open this weekend.

          I haven't done any changes yet and not sure if I am going to do any this gw. Bent gone down in price though. Bah!

            I've noticed price changes a lot more random and sudden atm.Protection seems less predictable,all coming down to instinct and guessing,which I prefer really. Good luck in the "OPEN"

        6.5 after todays transfers, then

        gw 32: young to lampard
        gw 33: kolarow to luiz

        leaves me with 1.2 in the bank. Probably downgrade to Foster to Mignolet in gw 34, but longterm plans seldom works out and GK transfers ususally is not the highest priority...

      You have two Everton defenders? Interesting. Also quite a reliance on Arsenal midfield, I'd be looking to get some Chelsea coverage soon.

      Zigic has got to go as well, I'd probably start Coleman ahead of him to be honest but it's not ideal.

        Agree with your comments - will probably be doing the following over the coming weeks:

        GW34: Nasri -> Adam

          Is anyone seriously considering getting rid of Rooney? Is this madness??

          With utd's schedule and options up front its surely only a matter of time before he starts getting subbed early/rested & Gyan/Wellbeck/Suarez/Carroll will all get more minutes & free up a lot of funds for Laamps...

            People are doing it, mainly for RVP or to free up funds for Lamps.

            Personally, if I had Rooney I'd keep him though, but I understand why people are doing it.

            I am pretty much sold on getting Gyan next week which is the only thing stopping me getting shot of Bent now. With Lamps in my team Rooney is pretty much out of my price range.

          RVP is the logical choice for captain this GW, but st tells me that he'll hobble off after 10 minutes. I'm taking a punt with Dempsey.

          Foster (Begovic)
          R. Johnson Baines Huth Vidic (Coleman)
          Nani Downing VDV (Gutierrez Ferguson)
          RVP Rooney Bent

          Soft in the middle, two free transfers:
          GW31 Bent to Beckford
          GW32 Vidic to Luiz and Downing to Lampard
          GW33 Gutierrez to ADAM

          A: Do all four for an 8 point hit.. This is quite unlike my past.
          B: Do Gutierrez to Adam now, then all three next week for a four point hit.
          C: Space it out like above with NO hits.
          D: Just do Vidic to Luiz (have to do at least one or it's wasted, like me) Thanks guys.

            I would not play Simpson over Huth, close call but I think Wolves score with Ohara and Ebanks. BTW could you look at my problem tfour posts up. thanks.

            Don't really want a points hit, but my midfield is pretty weak.

          My team at the moment:
          Foster (Al Hasbi)
          Walker, Baird, Coleman
          Nani, A.Young->Lampard, Nasri, Adam, VdV
          RvP, Tevez->Carroll/Gyan
          (Al Hasbi, Odemwingie, R. Johnson, Huth)

          1: Do the transfers seem sensible? (I need the funds of the Tevez transfer to get Lampard)
          Huth->Luiz next GW

          2: Bench players look right? Foster & Johnson on seem to be too much of a risk.

          Any comments appreciated!

            Perthite-- that looks great, I do love the DGW players so I would think about Carroll/Gyan though they are excellent choices, Gyan especially after this week.

            I would play Johnson over Walker-- but it's all a guess.

              Thanks - Johnson on the field is doubling up on Birmingham - it makes me a bit uneasy though!

              I think I will do these fo the 4 point hit
              Young->Lampard
              Tevez->Gyan

              and Huth->Luiz next GW.

              That should set me up fairly well for the doubles/blanks of GW 33/34.

          Morning,

          Team for today

          Foster
          Walker, Johnson, Baines
          Adam, Nasri, Nani, Young, Nolan
          Tevez, Van Persie

          Zigic, Coleman, Kelly

          Really want Lamps and Luiz in, but can't work out best way to do it.....
          Thinking of keeping sorry lot above this week to leave 2 changes for next week). I know defence is pretty week but can't see any obvious changes without taking big hit.

          Any advice, as Daddy Pig would say, "would be most welcome".

            Seems like you are in a similar bind to me - where Tevez looks to be the main method out to fund the Young->Lampard and defender->Luiz.

              Tevez to Gyan and the upgrade Young to Lampard if there is enough spare. Johnson to Luiz and then Kelly to a SUnderland defender next week with the extra cash from Johnson downgrading to Luiz.

                    Personally I'd go with Gyan. Like their run of fixtures after this week, sure Carroll would free up some more cash but I'd rather be starting Gyan at the moment.

                    I had Carroll in mind, but again think he could score and assist today so his price is only going one way....so wondering if i should just make transfers today and take the hit......but then again......ahhhhhhh

                  Only problem is i brought Young in for the long haul, given his run of fixtures and hate to go against what made sense a few weeks ago, when nothing has changed really. I was thinking of Nasri as the one who might go to get Lamps in......thoughts?

                      That's true but could you do Nolan to Downing to keep their exposure? Lampard and a consistent Villa midfielder would be a good option.

                            About 7.4 I think...I mil less that Young and much more consistent over the last 8 weeks. I should probably have him over Young also.

                    What a defensive dialemma....Any thoughts? Can't decide to bring Huth into the action for Coleman OR make a sub and get rid of Huth for someone else. Thinking that even if Huth concedes he could be in amongst the scoring/assisting action.

                    Currently lining up like this.

                    ---------Foster------------

                    ----Smalling, Luiz, Coleman---

                    Adam, Nani, Nasri, A Young, Lampard

                    -------Rooney, RVP----------
