Wayne Rooney is facing a two-match ban having been charged with β€œthe use of offensive, insulting and / or abusive language” by the FA.

The United striker was caught using β€œcolourful” terms following his penalty conversion which gave his side a 3-2 lead at Upton Park on Saturday. Rooney later submitted an apology for the incident but it became clear early on that the FA were to investigate the matter further.

The FA issued their verdict at 5pm today, with a two-match ban for Rooney now looming. He would miss Saturday’s gameweek 32 fixture with Fulham and the FA Cup semi-final with Man City on April 16 – a massive blow to United’s ambitions this season.

This is also hugely significant news for Fantasy Managers of course – Rooney put himself to the forefront of our plans with Saturday’s hat-trick and almost 20,000 Fantasy Premier League managers have already made the move for the 12.0 capture of the striker.

United and Rooney have until 6pm on Wednesday to deny the FA’s charge. If it’s accepted then the suspension will come into effect. Given the evidence captured by Sky’s cameras and Rooney’s apology, it’s going to be difficult for United to find a case to contest the matter; their official site has confirmed the charge but no comment from the club has been made as yet.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'd set up to have Rooney rvp already with lampard and luiz coming in this week. Now I'm kinda screwed as I got zamora in banking on no injuries or bans

In a way good news, as everyone will take a hit then, and then not be able to get him back.

I would have to disagree, if you watched this past weekend, he is more than capable enough to control the mid-field, and I'm not just talking about tired WH players. He is rarely dispossessed, always plays at his own speed...he's like those Monsters in horror films that can always keep up with the victims just by walking...even though they victims are running their ass off.

all in all I'm sure SAF will play Giggs more centrally with valencia and Nani. I rode the Berbs train hard earlier this season, I'm about to ride the hell out of Chicharito.

Or I've moved from my phone to a PC??

You could probably go through hundreds of goal celebrations and find players mouthing the f word. If Rooney and Fergie took this comparison into the FA they'd be laughed out of the room.

You would be in a mightily small minority to say what Pearce done was comparable to Rooney.
There's passion and there's being a chavvy little c**t who thinks they can say what they want, when they want.

I'd bet my house that if Rooney had been charged for the elbow a few weeks ago, what happened on Saturday wouldn't have happened.

I think the elbow is coming back to haunt him, I really do.
Rio's tried to come out and defend him by asking if terraces are "swear free zones"
The irony is that depending if you're stood next to the wrong copper or steward they probably are. I've seen people warned with ejection for using bad language in the stands and people slung out for giving hand signals to opposing fans.

Same here. I'm hoping for an absolute blinder with the double fixtures.

                Arsenal: Fabregas, Wilshere, RVP
                Chelsea: Lampard, Luiz
                Birmingham: Foster, Johnson

The other muppets aren't too bad either. Adam (WIG), Rooney (new ;)), VDV (ARS), Coleman (BLA).

Thinking I've got to do Lampard IN Nani OUT and Gyan IN Rooney OUT. Though it's going to cost me this week, I've got to have Lampard the week after, so it makes sense.

Anyone else thinking of getting Drog in for Rooney?..

    Case for:
Over next 3 gameweeks could play four games to Rooney's two, three of them at home and all of them against teams near the drop.
Also looked lively against Stoke - goal and hit woodwork twice.

    Case against:
What are his chances of playing all four games?
Rooney just pulled in 17 points and will only miss one game.

    just finished work.

I'm not sure what to make off this Rooney sweargate.

I agree with the punishment as you can't go out of your way to deliberately seek out a camera and boom mic on live International telly at 2pm GMT and repeatedly use the F word.

However, how is this somehow worse than deliberately elbowing someone in the face. Also on live International tv, IIRC?

Both acts were deserving of match bans imo.

pretty sure that this ban has come about because the FA know they made a massive error with the elbow incident.

    Coleman, hughes, Vidic, Luiz, Huth
    Pedersen, Nani, Young, Adam, Barton
    Berba, Suarez, RVP

Berba out for Bent? or gyan or keep? Prob will keep him now. Or oust pedersen. I need to decide tonight or 2moro as I am in away from thursday till sunday. Thanks

I was going to wait till after fa cup semi finals and get Jarvis/O Hara for pedersen as wolves DGW cover. But now I am uncertain about making a change. If i wanted rooney I would have had to downgrade one of hart/vidic/young to fund it and take a hit. I guess saving the transfer makes more sense cos i cant see any other better replacements for pedersen around 6 mill mark?

Pasquale-esque, maybe Hale and Pace-ish if you deliver it right. 5/10 πŸ™‚

Looking to bring in a Chelsea defender. I am beginning to think it is worth paying the premium for Terry to avoid the possibility of rotation. What say ye?

Great tricks in there. Most videos of this kind are fake but I don't think this one is. He probably filmed each attempt 500 times though.

Flag removed at friday the 1st, RVP was protected 8 days so I would guess Adam's protected until saturday.

I've been stating it on here a few times over the weekend i was thinking Tevez out for Torres this week but now its just got to be Rooney for Torres.

Torres to come good in next three games..

    CRICKET

Anyone hear the news that ireland won't be allowed to participate in the next world cup. Ridiculous that, especially after they beat England and gave India a run for their money

Essentially because they've cut the number of teams down from 14 to 10, to avoid the situation (as happened in 2007) where big nations (India and Pakistan in this case) to be knocked out early, and thereby missing out on a lot of revenue.

        It's an absolute disgrace.

          +1
Will ruin the world cup, I was really pleased that cricket was beginning to get more interest in Ireland - this decision will kybosh that though.

Flabbergasted and appalled. Worst sporting decision made since the football World Cup draw.

It's too long for a tournament.
Middle of Feb to the end of March? Crazy!
In the end the teams that made the last 8 emphasised what a waste of time the group stages were.

IMO get the smaller nations playing in a qualifying tournament where the top two progress to the WC proper.

Why can't Ireland play next time?

Have posted this before, got mixture of responses. Which combo would you go for:

    A: Lamps & Welbeck

    B Drogs & Adam

Same two players will make way in either case
