Wayne Rooney is facing a two-match ban having been charged with βthe use of offensive, insulting and / or abusive languageβ by the FA.
The United striker was caught using βcolourfulβ terms following his penalty conversion which gave his side a 3-2 lead at Upton Park on Saturday. Rooney later submitted an apology for the incident but it became clear early on that the FA were to investigate the matter further.
The FA issued their verdict at 5pm today, with a two-match ban for Rooney now looming. He would miss Saturdayβs gameweek 32 fixture with Fulham and the FA Cup semi-final with Man City on April 16 β a massive blow to Unitedβs ambitions this season.
This is also hugely significant news for Fantasy Managers of course β Rooney put himself to the forefront of our plans with Saturdayβs hat-trick and almost 20,000 Fantasy Premier League managers have already made the move for the 12.0 capture of the striker.
United and Rooney have until 6pm on Wednesday to deny the FAβs charge. If itβs accepted then the suspension will come into effect. Given the evidence captured by Skyβs cameras and Rooney’s apology, itβs going to be difficult for United to find a case to contest the matter; their official site has confirmed the charge but no comment from the club has been made as yet.
