Wayne Rooney is facing a two-match ban having been charged with “the use of offensive, insulting and / or abusive language” by the FA.

The United striker was caught using “colourful” terms following his penalty conversion which gave his side a 3-2 lead at Upton Park on Saturday. Rooney later submitted an apology for the incident but it became clear early on that the FA were to investigate the matter further.

The FA issued their verdict at 5pm today, with a two-match ban for Rooney now looming. He would miss Saturday’s gameweek 32 fixture with Fulham and the FA Cup semi-final with Man City on April 16 – a massive blow to United’s ambitions this season.

This is also hugely significant news for Fantasy Managers of course – Rooney put himself to the forefront of our plans with Saturday’s hat-trick and almost 20,000 Fantasy Premier League managers have already made the move for the 12.0 capture of the striker.

United and Rooney have until 6pm on Wednesday to deny the FA’s charge. If it’s accepted then the suspension will come into effect. Given the evidence captured by Sky’s cameras and Rooney’s apology, it’s going to be difficult for United to find a case to contest the matter; their official site has confirmed the charge but no comment from the club has been made as yet.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If you were Rooney, you would.

Hundreds of footballers get that every Saturday, and only Rooney and Diouf respond like that. The rest suck it up and think of how many supermodels they're going to shag in the following week.

Don't be daft. Loads of footballers react to the crowd after they've received stick.

What he did was wrong, but an apology should have been enough and a warning should have been made.

If it was me and thousands of people were treating me the way Rooney was treated, then I'd go f'ing mental if I'd scored a hattrick. I'd probably be screaming at them for the remainder of the game.. "WHAT? F***ING WHAAAAAAAT??!!!!!??!!?!!??!!!!!!!!

The FA can also point to Drogba getting a 4 game ban from UEFA for the same thing.

Surely you are intelligent enough to tell the difference between swearing on the pitch in a game to swearing down the camera with the intention of offending those that pay his over inflated wages.

It's not that difficult to grasp.

Drogba and Rooney's cases are different. They both swore and that's the only similarity. Drogba was questioning the integrity of the referee, dis-respecting him. Rooney did not question anyone's integrity.

This is all about the timing. Rooney acts like a kunt in the FIRST game of the new Respect campaign. You can't give a bigger middle finger to the FA.

They were never going to let him away with it.

They're different, but not that different. In both cases it was still largely about them saying something out of order into a camera - if Drogba had made his "it's a f***ing disgrace" comment to a journalist after the game it might not have been as severe a punishment.

For example, Roger Johnson explicitly said "the referee is a disgrace" in an interview after the Villa match last season and although he was charged, he didn't get a ban.

Using it is one thing, but doing it the way Rooney done it is another. It's similar to Drogba saying "it's fu*king a disgrace" down the camera and he got a ban.

Name the last person before Rooney to do what he did and go after the camera and deliberately swear into it.Actionally take time out so the he knew he would be heard.

Yes loads of people are caught swearing into the camera unintentionally - Rooney was deliberate however.

No it doesnt set a difficult precedent. Dont seek out cameras and swear into to them deliberately.

If you you're up for losing Nani I'd say that's okay. Fabregas has burnt us far too many times though.

If you want to keep your three Ars players, you can do Fab--> Walcott and Nasri --> Lamps. Walcott tends to score well when he gets the minutes. That's just my opinion tho!

Right, assists email sent to FPL, bit too late i suppose but after reading the rules...

These are awarded to the player from the goal scoring team who makes the last pass before a goal is scored.

If during this pass, an opposing player significantly alters the speed or direction of the ball, then no assist is given except if this intervention directly results in an own goal.

Lescott did not " make a pass"!!

But if he had actually touched it as he wanted it would have gone the other way, he was lucky not to ruin a goal.

Anyway they wont chance it as the "experts/BPs judges" obiously have him as he got the three BP's too!!

+1. it's frustrating as a kolarov owner but those are the rules. all the other assists given that were touched on route to the goalscorer were touched by an opposition player.

Too right. The scouse person* should be banned for his comments. Yes, it is common in terraces and stuff, as is racist abuse (West Ham especially, unfortunately, and this week as it goes, one of the players relatives heard the abuse (Piquionne/Obinna)) But it doesn't make it acceptable, if you get caught shouting "Ref you cnut" at work, you could get sacked, unless you have a good boss of course.

Its astonishing what people get away with in football grounds, where otherwise they may get arrested/a warning/fine, if caught. It is just impossible to enforce in football grounds. So Rooney, rightfully should be banned, you just don't say that, I don't remember what Drogba got for his "Its a disgrace etc etc etc. But that was a night game, this game was the early game, which also must be a contributing factor ?

Rooney bought it on himself, and I was already hating at Wayne Rooney at that point, and actually felt the urge to punch my screen when he said that, I bet some West Ham fan, somwhere, actually did. I will now except, also, that he meant 'That elbow'.

Or to put it simply. Rooney is a cock.

        Great minds think alike?

If this was a player from a 'lesser' team, then the FA wouldn't be giving the incident a second thought.

Because the media go mental about it, the FA feel as if they have to respond.

zlatan...because you're chasing you have to gamble...this is your chance to get loads of players that he doesn't have...the extra fixture pays for the hit so long as you are getting good players who won't be rotated...it's a gamble because you might get a player for a hit who then gets injured or rested but I think you should at least consider even more transfers than this...(off the top of my head I don't like Fulham or Birmingham for this but Chelsea, Arsenal, Bolton, Wolves, Stoke are all possibilities to consider)
