[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

Wayne Rooney is facing a two-match ban having been charged with “the use of offensive, insulting and / or abusive language” by the FA.

The United striker was caught using “colourful” terms following his penalty conversion which gave his side a 3-2 lead at Upton Park on Saturday. Rooney later submitted an apology for the incident but it became clear early on that the FA were to investigate the matter further.

The FA issued their verdict at 5pm today, with a two-match ban for Rooney now looming. He would miss Saturday’s gameweek 32 fixture with Fulham and the FA Cup semi-final with Man City on April 16 – a massive blow to United’s ambitions this season.

This is also hugely significant news for Fantasy Managers of course – Rooney put himself to the forefront of our plans with Saturday’s hat-trick and almost 20,000 Fantasy Premier League managers have already made the move for the 12.0 capture of the striker.

United and Rooney have until 6pm on Wednesday to deny the FA’s charge. If it’s accepted then the suspension will come into effect. Given the evidence captured by Sky’s cameras and Rooney’s apology, it’s going to be difficult for United to find a case to contest the matter; their official site has confirmed the charge but no comment from the club has been made as yet.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Foster, Begovic
    Luiz, Kolarov, Coleman, Huth, Johnson R
    T.Cahill, Adam, Walcott, Young A, Nani
    RVP, Tevez, Welbeck

    make 2 transfer and 4 pts hit

    T.Cahill -> Lampard
    Tevez -> Bent

      Yes, I'm thinking of doing something similar albeit Rooney -> Bent. This frees up cash for Lampard and the chance to get rid of that cheap and nasty midfielder you've been itchin' for ditchin'. In my case, Nolan.

      My only concern would be Walcott. Seems liable to rotation.

      Bit surprised Bent hasn't had more of a mention from those looking for a way to get Lampard in via the Rooney route.

          I have had Gyan for two weeks, and I am not sure he had a single shoot on target. Will probably get rid next week or two for a DGW player (big Z, SEB...)

        Yeah, barring any injuries I think that's what i'll do. What you think is best for GW33:

        a) Fabs & Kolarov -> Lampard & Carr
        b) Fabs, Nani & Coleman -> Lampard, Adam & Terry (4 points)
        c) Fabs & A Young -> Lampard & Walcott

          Wait & see what form they are in during GW32. 😉
          I have a similar team to you but I'll probably use my 2 frees & might even take a hit this week.
          b) gives the best balance as you will be wanting Adam anyway.

      Yes, good thinking Jin. Save your transfers for the next gwk as you have all the heavy hitters on board anyway save Lampard. At least you don't have to worry about Rooney now. Possibly you could look at Adam and Lampard for VDV and Fabs?

          Cheers TM - another close one!

          Looking forward to playing my two freebies this gwk-just as well I waited with this Rooney news.

          Thinking Lamps in for Nolan; Bent in for Roonpig.

          Might have to do the unholiest of holies next week and take a hit as I've got no gk, no Luiz. Bleak times 🙁

              I'm thinking 3 transfers too to make use of Luiz's fix. There isn't any point bringing him in next week when you think about it with this WIG fix.

              That opponent has the same team as me bar the back unit.

                True about Luiz. If he only scores 6 then whoever I dont sell needs to score 2 to come out even. Rooney being out make getting a good team for GW32-33 alot easier. I could have at least 7 DGW players if I made 3 trades this week. Of course you would have to spend your free trade next week on Luiz & might have other injury worries.

                Sorry.

                Had to do school run and go to doctor surgery to make an early appointment for my daughter.

                Didn't realize I'd won my cup game, I thought Katie's team would beat me soundly.

                I'd rather have her world ranking though, if that's any consolation.

      By my reckoning lampard is only worth about 10 million this season and so I thought I wouldn't bring him in... I hate buying over priced players... But if he plays 4 games in 3 game weeks I guess I can justify it as 10x4 is more than 13x3!

      Plus he'll be captain and has good games and I've got an excuse to ship rooney now...

      So I've changed my stance.

          No bent for me... I'm actually going to bring in Zamora to free up funds,, thinking ahead to gw34. I might even start him at the old trafford game, they're defending badly and fulham are playing really well.

          I've got enough room on my bench in gw33 blank

              I had him at the start of the season too. He was consistent for the few games before he got injured, and at least vs blackpoll he showed pace, which would be the worry after his injury

              And anyway for me at this stage of the season it's silly to bring in anyone other than double game week players, considering Chelsea, birmingham, arsenal, fulham, stoke, wolves, Bolton, tottenham and man city will all have doubles, there are plenty to choose from.

              And even if they have blanks it's easy enough to sub for one week unless You have too many. My other thought was sturridge

                I think those marooned with Zigic will warn you against the follies of chasing dgws.

                It's a bit of a chess game at present thinking the transfers through.

                I would only consider:

                CHS - Luiz, Lamps

                BIR - Foster and RJ

                ARS - RVP and Nasri

                STK - Bergovic, Huth

                WLV - O Hara

                MAN C - Tevez

                TOT - Dawson, Gomez.

                Hard to look beyond these.

                  wise words Jafa but I'm behind in my mini-league so drastic action needed...selling Rooney is my way of freeing-up funds because my opponents have him...which cheap striker would you suggest?

                    in hindsight bringning in Zigic was a poor decision (so far) but going back to the GW in question I still believe it was a logical move.

                  Let's not forget that the main reason Zigic was such a flop in that gameweek (and afterwards) is that he ended up being injured. Nobody can predict injuries happening like that.

        Strikes me as really silly, all prem games have cameras and microphones everywhere and footballers swear all the time - doesn't this set an awkward precedent? The FA could find themselves having to ban an awful lot of people.

          They will appeal the lenght (trying to reduce it to 1 game) - bad news for ff, as he will still miss next GW and face the risk of another GW out (very likely, as there is no reason to appeal imo)

            I don't mean that it's silly to appeal, I mean that it's silly to ban him. If I was Man Utd's lawyers I would be paying very close attention to all broadcasts in the near future and drawing the FA's attention to every instance of a footballer swearing on camera and demanding they be banned.

          A lot of players do swear, but most of them don't stare straight at a camera and deliberatly say the f word. This was very similar to Drogba's f*ing disgrace.

            I guess, but any subsequent incidents along these lines will force the FA to define precisely what is and isn't acceptable swearing. They could even be forced into a position where they're saying "it's fine to swear on camera as long as you're not looking straight at it" - which would make them look pretty silly and make a mockery of this whole "respect" thing they're trotting out.

            Personally what I think the situation really is, and what they can't admit, is that they're taking action because the sponsors don't like it - not because of any moralistic principle.

              I see it in the same way as the old cliche, 'luck evens out over the season'. He should never have got away with the elbow incident but he's been harshly treated now. The FA have made a ballsup by implying that swearing is worse than deliberately elbowing someone in the face, but I don't think there's much of a precedent being set because it's unlikely to happen again. I don't know of any other player who's celebrated a goal like that.

                Maybe it can be looked as the correct or fair decision in those terms, but I think the FA need to be careful about making up rules as they go along. They will now be expected to enforce the same punishment on other players, and although this may seem obviously worse than other swearing incidents they will now be forced to define what is and isn't punishable and it could open up a real can of worms.

                  Were I counsel for Man Utd I would go into that appeal hearing with a library of incidents of other players swearing audibly during broadcasts and demand that the FA define precisely why these incidents were not punished.

              Ah - Turbodog! Will the sainted Hennessey be safe in goal, do you think?

                Hello mate. Ye,s I think so Michael. He had a bad game - but so did many of his team mates. He's earned his start for the rest of the season barring injury IMHO.
                You never know with Mad Mick though 😉

                DAMN rules always getting in my way. Thank for pointing that one out. I would have happily clicked away and found myself screwed there. Cheers.

                    Looking at your team, you have no Terry as yet - so I would go Drogba instead of him - unless that's the transfer you've already done?

                Really? Each to their own. I think blackpool will score alot more than sunderland until the end of the season. with blackpool struggling and sland safe they have nothing to pay for execpt a couple 100,000 for the league position. I think players in the lower teams will out perform sunderland. but thats just my opinion. Zamoras good for this double, but i cabn see past DJs 4 homes on the bounce.

                  +1, i was saying that yesterday. yu need teams that have a bit of hunger. Lets face it most footballers are spoilt, pampered kids. Sunderland are on their holidays already.

                    Sunderland are only six points off a relegation spot and are in one hell of a tailspin.
