While Jacko’s shrine was unveiled at the Cottage, the Fulham faithful fell at the feet of Bobby Zamora as he returned from a leg break to fire the home side to a convincing win over Blackpool. Up at Eastlands meanwhile, City broke off the shackles and put a statuesque Sunderland to the sword. Here’s the notes on Sunday’s action…

Bobby Zamora
Brought back into the Fulham lineup by Mark Hughes with devastating effect. A strong finish following a 40-yard run and a glancing header from a Damien Duff delivery were enough to remind us all of the qualities of the former Spurs striker. Having brought him to the attention in Saturday morning’s “Differentials”, Fantasy Managers will surely be marking Zamora for consideration for the season run-in. Sadly, fixtures do not fall kindly for Zamora or Fulham in the short-term. It’s a trip to Old Trafford next, followed by a gameweek 33 blank. Things do improve from then on however, (wol/BOL sun LIV bir) with gameweek 34’s double fixture surely a milestone with Zamora hunters will look to.

The Cottage Fortress
Mark Hughes has transformed Fulham into a resolute outfit. Although Sunday’s result was their first clean sheet in four, Fulham have now kept five clean sheets in their last seven league games at the Cottage. The fixture list won’t translate that form into Fantasy investment but, again, gameweek 34 will surely see renewed interest in Brede Hangeland and his back four colleagues.

Charlie Adam
Ian Holloway’s side failed to score for only the seventh time this season. Worryingly however, that’s two of the last three away games that Charlie Adam and company have drawn a blank. Fortunately for Blackpool, they now face an incredible run of four consecutive home matches from gameweek 32 onwards. That run will surely see huge investment in Charlie Adam, despite returning just a point from Sunday’s game. Incredibly, that was the first time that Adam has returned a total blank since gameweek 14. He has fetched either a goal, assist or Bonus in his last 13 league starts.

City On The Attack
Roberto Mancini opted for a fluid 4-4-2, pairing Mario Balotelli with Carlos Tevez in attack and starting with Adam Johnson and David Silva. Johnson, another player tipped in this week’s “Differentials” duly justified his recall to the starting lineup with the opening goal. That signalled the rout as City simply swept Sunderland aside. City had scored just three goals in their previous four league matches prior to Sunday; Mancini hinted post-match that his side may well now go on the attack as they look to compete for a top four finish.

Carlos Tevez
The Argentine Fantasy favourite returned to scoring ways, albeit unconvincingly, with his first-half penalty after he was brought down by Phil Bardsley. That may restore some faith in Tevez, although almost 150,000 Fantasy Premier League managers had sold him on prior to gameweek 31. With a trip to Anfield followed by a gameweek 33 blank to come, that trend looks likely to continue. A double fixture for City and Tevez is on the horizon, but not until gameweek 36 (eve/TOT).

Aleksandar Kolarov
The Serb remains hopelessly fragile in defensive terms but if Mancini is intent on going on the attack for the remainder of the season, Kolarov looks set to be a key figure. His frequent raids down the left were again in evidence, and also played a role at set-pieces. Kolarov was denied an assist for Patrick Vieira’s goal, somewhat harshly, thanks to the merest deflection on his cross by Joleon Lescott. Some sources, including our own OPTA data, still assigned that assist to Kolarov. It remains to be seen if the Press Association revise their assessment for the FPL – it seems unlikely.

Sunderland’s Form
Steve Bruce’s side are suffering having failed to score in four consecutive league games. At the back meanwhile, confidence will have taken a nosedive having kept a superb clean sheet at the Emirates on their previous away trip. The current form will prove a frustration for Fantasy Managers. In terms of fixtures, Sunderland look ripe for investment. Their run of three home matches in the next four looks tempting and should offer them the platform for recovery (WBA bir WIG FUL). Interest in the likes of Danny Welbeck, Asamoah Gyan and even defensive offerings – Simon Mignolet and Phil Bardsley, will pick up as a result of that run. Yesterday’s showing will surely cause concern however, stalling investment for gameweek 32.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Kind of related to my last reply, I have concerns with:

Barton. He returned an assist, but does anyone know how he looked on the pitch? Is he still on penalties?

Coleman. He seems a doubt, and though I haven't checked Baines, his price is probably prohibitive. But Baines seems to be on penalties now?!

Barton looked pretty good and perhaps would have picked up bonii were it not for the scoreline. I would have thought he'll retain pens particularly with Nolan out for two.

Coleman is definitely a worry, but I think Bained is only on pens in the absence of Arteta and possibly Cahill and Saha.

My gut feeling is that he may well have been on them anyway, and now that he's scored one he'll stay there until Arteta's return.

The Executioner's Bong is the guy to ask though I guess, that is one clued up Toffee.

64 pints ahead in my mini-league. But the making and breaking of the season is in the DGW's.

    DGW 33: Chelsea, Arsenal, Birmingham
DGW 34: Stoke, Wolves, Fulham, Bolton
    DGW 36: Spurs, Man City

    Have I got that right??

GW 34 doesnt excite me, huth, dempsey, zamora, and sturrudge are the only real standout considerations for me?

GW 36 has the potential to be massive though, I dont have Tevez and VDV but think il be needing them come then.

The double for Chelsea is key i think 3 players from them is essential, Birmingham Foster will do for me and i'll be looking at RVP and maybe one other from Arsenal.

34 could actually be really interesting and a real chance to make up points, obviously the problem is none of those players having games in 33. I think i'll maybe have one Wolves a fulham (who i'll bring in after 33) and just the one Stokie.

Problem with the gameweek 34 doubles for me is that all my players will have good fixtures anyway. Someone like O'Hara, whose a good get for that gameweek and for all the subsequent fixtures as well, would be the sort of person I'll be looking at.

    Foster (Beg)
Luiz, Coleman (if fit), RJ (Huth, Kolarov)
    Adam, VdV, Young, Nani, Nasri,
    RVP, Rooney (Zigic)

Nani, Young ---> Lamps, Jarvis? Or O'Hara?

1.6 in the bank at the mo. Debating getting Lamps in, but would take a fair bit of re-shuffling. I could do something like this:

Not a great deal wrong with it.

Lamps is the man you'd want if possible - for 33 at the latest. Probably for Downing but you'd have to move some cash around to do so. Kolarov can probably go, Walker isn't a bad shout for the next few weeks.

Not comfortable without Adam (Arsenal are crap at set peices) and perhaps Bale. Christ knows about Berbs. I got him in the week he got his last hat-trick, but he's doing my head in now.

Probably not a popular opinion on here but I still think DJ Campbell is a good option for third striker. Four home games in a row against favourable oposition (apart from Arsenal this gameweek). Currently sitting at 4.4M I think.

Sturridge is cup tied so cant play in FA cup so if anyone is distracted by FA CUP then not him.

If you are bored, read this and make an opinnion.

I suppose we agree that to fund Lampard move, it's better to get rid of torres rather than rooney?
    In comes prob welbeck.

Gw 33 is where the problem is, all help/opinnions appreciated.
    Play
    a) coleman/walker, ferguson and rooney + save transfer
    b) terry, ferguson and rooney (allready have luiz)
    c) coleman/walker, wallcot and rooney
    d) coleman/walker, ferguson and drogman

    Annoying factors;
a)ferguson never gets double figures, even on double gw
b doubling in che defence - one goal conceded and there's not that much to get (prob will have to take a point hit later..)
    c) again, have to get 4 points more than ferguson to make it right
    d) changing torres to drog, takes two transfers and still might get in rotation mess..

    cheers

Im leaning towards Nani and VDV. Young has great fixtures and is guaranteed 90 minutes. I'll be bringing in Lampard & A.Jonhnson. Losing Nani also gives me a bit more money to play arond with and i already have Rooney.

Yeah I agree with all that. I don't really like Young over VDV and Nani, but you just can't ignore his great fixtures, something which the other 2 don't have. VDV has a double GW coming up, but I'm not confident of him playing many minutes over the remainder of the season, whether they are still in the Champs league or not. He hasn't got the best injury record.

I remember when Valencia first got injured and everyone brought in Nani. It was agreed by the majority that Nani would only be a good option until Valencia came back. People seem to have forgotten this. I'm sticking with what was said all that while back and probably getting rid of him.
