While Jacko’s shrine was unveiled at the Cottage, the Fulham faithful fell at the feet of Bobby Zamora as he returned from a leg break to fire the home side to a convincing win over Blackpool. Up at Eastlands meanwhile, City broke off the shackles and put a statuesque Sunderland to the sword. Here’s the notes on Sunday’s action…

Bobby Zamora
Brought back into the Fulham lineup by Mark Hughes with devastating effect. A strong finish following a 40-yard run and a glancing header from a Damien Duff delivery were enough to remind us all of the qualities of the former Spurs striker. Having brought him to the attention in Saturday morning’s “Differentials”, Fantasy Managers will surely be marking Zamora for consideration for the season run-in. Sadly, fixtures do not fall kindly for Zamora or Fulham in the short-term. It’s a trip to Old Trafford next, followed by a gameweek 33 blank. Things do improve from then on however, (wol/BOL sun LIV bir) with gameweek 34’s double fixture surely a milestone with Zamora hunters will look to.

The Cottage Fortress
Mark Hughes has transformed Fulham into a resolute outfit. Although Sunday’s result was their first clean sheet in four, Fulham have now kept five clean sheets in their last seven league games at the Cottage. The fixture list won’t translate that form into Fantasy investment but, again, gameweek 34 will surely see renewed interest in Brede Hangeland and his back four colleagues.

Charlie Adam
Ian Holloway’s side failed to score for only the seventh time this season. Worryingly however, that’s two of the last three away games that Charlie Adam and company have drawn a blank. Fortunately for Blackpool, they now face an incredible run of four consecutive home matches from gameweek 32 onwards. That run will surely see huge investment in Charlie Adam, despite returning just a point from Sunday’s game. Incredibly, that was the first time that Adam has returned a total blank since gameweek 14. He has fetched either a goal, assist or Bonus in his last 13 league starts.

City On The Attack
Roberto Mancini opted for a fluid 4-4-2, pairing Mario Balotelli with Carlos Tevez in attack and starting with Adam Johnson and David Silva. Johnson, another player tipped in this week’s “Differentials” duly justified his recall to the starting lineup with the opening goal. That signalled the rout as City simply swept Sunderland aside. City had scored just three goals in their previous four league matches prior to Sunday; Mancini hinted post-match that his side may well now go on the attack as they look to compete for a top four finish.

Carlos Tevez
The Argentine Fantasy favourite returned to scoring ways, albeit unconvincingly, with his first-half penalty after he was brought down by Phil Bardsley. That may restore some faith in Tevez, although almost 150,000 Fantasy Premier League managers had sold him on prior to gameweek 31. With a trip to Anfield followed by a gameweek 33 blank to come, that trend looks likely to continue. A double fixture for City and Tevez is on the horizon, but not until gameweek 36 (eve/TOT).

Aleksandar Kolarov
The Serb remains hopelessly fragile in defensive terms but if Mancini is intent on going on the attack for the remainder of the season, Kolarov looks set to be a key figure. His frequent raids down the left were again in evidence, and also played a role at set-pieces. Kolarov was denied an assist for Patrick Vieira’s goal, somewhat harshly, thanks to the merest deflection on his cross by Joleon Lescott. Some sources, including our own OPTA data, still assigned that assist to Kolarov. It remains to be seen if the Press Association revise their assessment for the FPL – it seems unlikely.

Sunderland’s Form
Steve Bruce’s side are suffering having failed to score in four consecutive league games. At the back meanwhile, confidence will have taken a nosedive having kept a superb clean sheet at the Emirates on their previous away trip. The current form will prove a frustration for Fantasy Managers. In terms of fixtures, Sunderland look ripe for investment. Their run of three home matches in the next four looks tempting and should offer them the platform for recovery (WBA bir WIG FUL). Interest in the likes of Danny Welbeck, Asamoah Gyan and even defensive offerings – Simon Mignolet and Phil Bardsley, will pick up as a result of that run. Yesterday’s showing will surely cause concern however, stalling investment for gameweek 32.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Wouldn't be taking out Tevez this week if I were you people. Pool are without Kelly, Agger, GJ and Arbeloa has some problems as well. So they will put out some makeshift LB mixed in with class like Kyrgiakos. Plus the fact that I don't think Man City will come there for a 0-0, but rather go for the win with a similar setup as yesterday.

A, but don't do the Downing->Walcott one for a hit. I could see a Villa rout here. Newcastle are without Tiote, Nolan and possibly Enrique. They're also fairly safe from relegation now with that win over Wolves the other night. Whereas Villa have everything to play for and they want some revenge for that 6-0 loss earlier in the season.

PS. Sorry Retro.. couldn't help myself.

Cheers. Yeah I am a bit worried about Sunderlands defence now but can't see a better GK option (esp at that price).

Could be a good shout on saving the 4 points, but Lampard could score big vs Wigan, and VDV/Nani must be huge rotation risks with the CL games either side. Seems like the right week to get them out, and the right week to get Lamps and Adam in.

the chances of lampard and adam scoring big this week are just the same as the chances of vdv and nani scoring big imo.
i dont remember harry ever rotating vdv. and nani has already been rotated so he should play versus fulham imo.
i'd probably just do the adam transfer :-/

Surely Nani was rotated for the CHE game in midweek, and could well be again this week?

I am tempted to just do the Adam and GK transfer, but I do think Lampard vs WIG could outscore Nani by 4 at least.

That said, really don't like the idea of ditching VDV and Nani, feels so wrong.

Cheers for your help, think this will be one to ponder on all week!

My great start is what has really helped me this season.

      I had:

      Hanhnemann (Gomes)
      Hughes, Shawcross, Cashley (Figeuroa Crainey)
      Malouda(c) Bale Ethrington Valencia (Adam)
      Bent Hernandez Drogba

That was my first week team was ranked 12,000th, and my first week sub did Caroll (before he'd scored may I add I picked him before the bandwagon) for Hernandez. Also got Nani very soon when Valencia was injured. Was in the top 1000 by week 5.

Same here. I'm telling myself that Everton's fixtures get trickier after GW33 - Man Utd (a), Wigan (a), Man CIty (h), West Brom (a), Che (h)

Baines also took a terrible penalty on Saturday, so lucky that the keeper dived past it, and he'll be off them once Arteta is back.

its partly the fear of missing out on a big lamps score through the rose tinted specs of last season, partly him being the best option for Chelsea in the double. I'm getting him in....not too much hardship for me getting him in and at least i'll be safe in the knowledge that most on here will have him as well. We can cry/celebrate together.

BTW - I note that the top guy in the world also has DJ Campbell..

I'm considering my cheap striker options to fund Lampard, if Dudley's good enough for him then he's good enough for me.

It is probably cos he usually has a massive game once a season. Both last season and the season before, he finished strong,a nd scored 4 goals in a game (I had him captain for both).

So I guess its the risk of missing out; everyone knows he and Chelsea are well capable of mauling smaller teams (they absolutely thrashed Wigan last season, although admittedly final day of the season meant little to Wigan)

It's not a struggle for anyone, they're just too greedy. I think what they're realizing is that to get him in requires a sacrifice they don't want to make (probably because it's not worth it)

Everyone thinks lampard will score well in gw33, and he probably will, but not to the extent that it's worth hits, downgrades, and being stuck with an overpriced player who's mind is primarily on the champions league and hasn't reached last seasons heights, which is what caused his high valuation

Silvio Berlusconi is a piece of work.

Just read this "AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi believes Mario Balotelli's off-the-field "behaviour" will prevent him from pulling on the Rossoneri shirt in the future."

This from the same Silvio Berlusconi currently facing 12 charges of corruption and sex with underage prostitutes.

I think whe. You're bringing I players for a double game week it's important they're not rotation risks or you're not getting the value which the dgw brings. Do you think drogba will play 180 mins? I think almost definitely not. This is why I'm sticking to defenders and also why lampard is the only name everyone is seriously considering as an attacking option.

True but are you then going to transfer him out?

Even if you do, as a free transfer, it's at the sacrifice of a different free transfer.

If you take a hit it's 4 points

If you don't trasnfer him out you're with a transfer risk all seson, and an extremely expensive one

As always the masterplan one makes up going forward get's shattered with every gameweek.

My "obvious" move for Gyan this week now does not seem so tempting anymore. The problem is I don't really fancy any other striker under 8.0 million more than him for the upcoming weeks.
My budget is limited to this price since I need funds to afford RVP, Fabs and Lamps for the double.

What is the general oppinion on Sunderland, surely will score sooner rather than later? If not, who to transer instead (max 8.0 million)?

Tough one. I rate the guy, but a lot of talented players haven't been able to make the step up.

Think he'd look good in the Newcastle side.

      He better not!

Although I think he'll do a Charlie Adam on it, i.e impress in his first Premier League season with QPR, then get snapped up by a bigger club the following summer.

      Chelsea - maybe.

He will not be successful, he was at Spurs for a long time. Given time and space and poor defending he is good - he won't get much of that in the Prem.

He's still only 21, though, must have been 17/18 when he was getting games at Spurs.

Hmmm... he may be the new Jerome Thomas of the Premiership. Looks good on the ball but achieves f*ck all.

I like the guy - did some good stuff at the Valley. But he is one of those players that dazzles with the ball at his feet, but as you're leaving the stadium, you're thinking "what did Thomas actually do that was any good?"

i think he'll be a relative flop in the premier league, can't see him having anyway near the success adam has had this season. i think he gets away with his kid in the park style in the championship but against better opposition and with qpr not enjoying the territorial advantage they are used to he will struggle. also with the extra pressure on his manager in the premier league i think it will be harder to justify giving luxury players like taraabt the freedom to do his thing.
so yeah more dorrans than adam imo

Nah, good side. A lot of good sides had rubbish weekends - it was that kind of week.

Nani, Adam, RVP and Lamps all drew blanks and they're the backbone of most teams. In any other week, they could get 40-50 pts between them.
