While Jacko’s shrine was unveiled at the Cottage, the Fulham faithful fell at the feet of Bobby Zamora as he returned from a leg break to fire the home side to a convincing win over Blackpool. Up at Eastlands meanwhile, City broke off the shackles and put a statuesque Sunderland to the sword. Here’s the notes on Sunday’s action…

Bobby Zamora
Brought back into the Fulham lineup by Mark Hughes with devastating effect. A strong finish following a 40-yard run and a glancing header from a Damien Duff delivery were enough to remind us all of the qualities of the former Spurs striker. Having brought him to the attention in Saturday morning’s “Differentials”, Fantasy Managers will surely be marking Zamora for consideration for the season run-in. Sadly, fixtures do not fall kindly for Zamora or Fulham in the short-term. It’s a trip to Old Trafford next, followed by a gameweek 33 blank. Things do improve from then on however, (wol/BOL sun LIV bir) with gameweek 34’s double fixture surely a milestone with Zamora hunters will look to.

The Cottage Fortress
Mark Hughes has transformed Fulham into a resolute outfit. Although Sunday’s result was their first clean sheet in four, Fulham have now kept five clean sheets in their last seven league games at the Cottage. The fixture list won’t translate that form into Fantasy investment but, again, gameweek 34 will surely see renewed interest in Brede Hangeland and his back four colleagues.

Charlie Adam
Ian Holloway’s side failed to score for only the seventh time this season. Worryingly however, that’s two of the last three away games that Charlie Adam and company have drawn a blank. Fortunately for Blackpool, they now face an incredible run of four consecutive home matches from gameweek 32 onwards. That run will surely see huge investment in Charlie Adam, despite returning just a point from Sunday’s game. Incredibly, that was the first time that Adam has returned a total blank since gameweek 14. He has fetched either a goal, assist or Bonus in his last 13 league starts.

City On The Attack
Roberto Mancini opted for a fluid 4-4-2, pairing Mario Balotelli with Carlos Tevez in attack and starting with Adam Johnson and David Silva. Johnson, another player tipped in this week’s “Differentials” duly justified his recall to the starting lineup with the opening goal. That signalled the rout as City simply swept Sunderland aside. City had scored just three goals in their previous four league matches prior to Sunday; Mancini hinted post-match that his side may well now go on the attack as they look to compete for a top four finish.

Carlos Tevez
The Argentine Fantasy favourite returned to scoring ways, albeit unconvincingly, with his first-half penalty after he was brought down by Phil Bardsley. That may restore some faith in Tevez, although almost 150,000 Fantasy Premier League managers had sold him on prior to gameweek 31. With a trip to Anfield followed by a gameweek 33 blank to come, that trend looks likely to continue. A double fixture for City and Tevez is on the horizon, but not until gameweek 36 (eve/TOT).

Aleksandar Kolarov
The Serb remains hopelessly fragile in defensive terms but if Mancini is intent on going on the attack for the remainder of the season, Kolarov looks set to be a key figure. His frequent raids down the left were again in evidence, and also played a role at set-pieces. Kolarov was denied an assist for Patrick Vieira’s goal, somewhat harshly, thanks to the merest deflection on his cross by Joleon Lescott. Some sources, including our own OPTA data, still assigned that assist to Kolarov. It remains to be seen if the Press Association revise their assessment for the FPL – it seems unlikely.

Sunderland’s Form
Steve Bruce’s side are suffering having failed to score in four consecutive league games. At the back meanwhile, confidence will have taken a nosedive having kept a superb clean sheet at the Emirates on their previous away trip. The current form will prove a frustration for Fantasy Managers. In terms of fixtures, Sunderland look ripe for investment. Their run of three home matches in the next four looks tempting and should offer them the platform for recovery (WBA bir WIG FUL). Interest in the likes of Danny Welbeck, Asamoah Gyan and even defensive offerings – Simon Mignolet and Phil Bardsley, will pick up as a result of that run. Yesterday’s showing will surely cause concern however, stalling investment for gameweek 32.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Hi lads. Not a bad week for me. Distinctly average in fact. Anyways. On to this week.

    Team is.

    Foster Begovic
    Carr Coleman Kolarov Kelly Clark
    Barton A.Young VDV Nani Lampard
    Rooney RVP Vela

    So my thinking for this week is that I want Adam and another Chelsea player. I.E Luiz.

    Simple thing I can do at the moment.

    Barton -> Adam
    Kolarov -> Luiz. 4 point hit. Leaves 0 in the bank.

    However. I need a fourth defender. I was going to play Begovic this week anyways. Yes, I know, away at Spurs, who have failed to score Vs West Ham and Wigan. So thats my theory. That way I do not have to double up on brum defenders, but Coleman is still in there. Midfielder I suppose, but may not play/start. Perhaps If I just take an 8 point hit and bring in a Wolves defender for Clark. BOOM! Just remembered that Clark is out of suspension. Still got a red flag in my team. Will he play though? Thanks for reading, any advice appreciated.

      Why do you need a 4th defender? Surely you will play 7 mids/forwards, and so only need 3 defenders?

      Coleman, Luiz, Carr, Begovic?

      I have Foster and Begovic, together with Huth (who I have to play cos I still have Kelly and Djourou - I know, I know). So Ill start Foster. But if Huth was Carr, I'd just play Begovic...

        I need a 4th defender who plays, so I can have a little choice, but as it goes, I have that anyways in Clark, hes out of suspension now. Just a defence of...

        Begovic (tot)
        Kolarov (liv) Coleman (wol, Rotation threat) Carr (bla)

        But now out of no where I will have

        Begovic (tot)
        Luiz (WIG) Coleman/Carr Clark (NEW)

          There might be some rotation between the 2 of them, but I think Nani will comfortably outscore Valencia til the end of the season. Nani can also play on the left, Valencia can't.

        If the other driver made perfect contact with Fabregas's car, then it couldn't have been either Bendtner or Chamakh. And despite standing on the pavement two feet away, Wenger claimed not to have seen the incident.

            haha very true. It's a bit harsh on every other club in the division who isn't Manchester United if you call Arsenal's season a car crash though.

            Most Liverpool fans, for example, look back very fondly on the season they finished second in the league.

                Im a Liverpool fan and that season was epic haha.

                Didnt mean any disrespect to any other teams more a reaction to how everything looked so good for Arsenal until that couple of weeks when they crashed out of the cups, lost half their team to injury and now seem to be out of the title race after that horrible Blackburn game. I feel sorry for them as they were so close!

          Mate if I captained Adam more often I wouldn't have 3 captaincy fail in a row. Adam will get u 6-7 points sometimes double figures. One of the lads in the top 20 overall has captained him several times. N Zog even several times. He wants 5 pts from his captain at least. Wise strategy if I am asked.

            I am concerned about my second goalkeeper, Zigic (should I hold till the double) and my defense. On paper is good but I didn't have CS's for ages. 1 CS per GW is the most.

              I fully expect not to get clean sheets these days, just the way its gone... Man U are a good source when at OT. And City can be alright... But no other teams are really 'reliable' for clean sheets.

              Mind you. I got....

              Foster (7)
              Carr (6) Coleman (1) Kolarov (5)

              This week, all be it a little lucky with the brummies.

            Yes. Gone this week from my team.

            Waste of a shirt now Fabs and Walcott back. Gave him the benefit of the doubt this weekend and he did exactly what I suspected he would do.

            I don't care if he has a dgw. Liverpool and Spurs hardly scream points fest for a guy who did jack against West Brom, Sunderland and Blackburn.

          Maybe Drogba if he starts firing. But if he starts firing that means Lamps is not worth the cash. I prefer Torres to play its better for Lamps owners. I am not tempted by Torres, will see how he'll play in CL, but on the other hand offloading Roonster in this kind of form looks like a bad decision. I would prefer downgrading Nani instead.

              I was looking at him last for the last GW but wasn't sure on starts. He's a good price, has a double approaching and gets into a lot of goal scoring positions. Look at his score in the games he's played. Plus, hes up against a Liverpool team with defensive injuries, Wilson might have to play left back.

    Opinions... Do people focus too much on good/ bad form? Every player and team goes in and out of form except the very best and worst... So if you pick a player based on 6 good games or sell one based on 6 bad games, isn't it very likely you're too late, and that the price has already deviated from what it should be due to everyone's sheepish transfers

      price doesnt matter anymore, you shouldnt be factoring it into decisions, bar seeing if you can afford who you want.

      personally i just do fixtures, and whther theyre getting in forward positions, geting shots in. For defenders, i look at how much chance they have of getting forward too, with clean sheets slightly second. Looking a the whole defence too.

      Its not just form. Form can mean a few things though. GOod form to many FFootball players is simply scoring in FPL terms. TO me, it's if someone is playing and fit and getting strikes/into advanced positions, getting good reviews.

          On the form thing - I think you should only bring people in who you're happy to stick with for say 4 GWs (earlier in the season I'd say 6). It's like fishing - you need to sit and wait, if you keep moving around looking for the best spot you'll be lucky to catch anything at all. My 2p.

            I like that analogy about fishing. I agree you need to tnk transfers ahead, Or unless you're willing to take hits you'll always be left with players you don't want in the long run. For me it's more like 6 games I think about when I sign someone

          I think about it all the time. In my opinion maximizing value without leaving cash in the bank or on your bench will result in the highest returns.

    Pfft, would have been an alright week for me had Mr Rooney not stepped up as captain of my minileague rivals team and halved the gap between us.

    Anyway, looking ahead to this week, any advice on these transfers?

    Team is

    Hart/Robinson

    Coleman, Baines, Hangeland, Huth, Foley

    DVD, Lumpard, Nolan, Adam, Nasri

    V.Persie, Welbeck, Defoe

    I currently have 0.0 in bank, thinking (after midweek obvs)

    Hangeland --> Luiz
    Hart --> Foster

    or

    Hart ---> Mignolet
    Defoe ---> Bent

    or for a bigger hit.

    Hart ----> Mignolet
    Defoe---->Bent
    Hangeland----> Luiz

    I've had Defoe as a differential for a while, with Spurs having seemingly easy fixtures and 'Arrys preference for Crouch in Europe, but he's been a complete let down again. One last chance against Stoke or get rid now?

He is generally a confidence player who goes crazy when he starts to score, which is why I also thought it worth the punt wehn he banged in his first of the season, but all he has done since is squander good chances. Harry blamed it on his Gran dieing last week (god rest her soul) so I am going to give him one last chance to snap out of mourning and hit his streak.

    I'm sure a lot of people without Lampard are in this situation.

    Foster (Al-Habsi)

    Coleman, Huth, Luiz (Simpson, Djourou)

    Nasri, Nani, Adam, VDV, Young

    Rooney, RVP (Berbatov)

    I already used my free to get in Luiz for Lolarov.

    I was planning on taking an 8 point hit just to get Lampard in.
    Berbatov > Welbeck

    Should i wait till next week to get Lampard in? I'm pretty happy with my team as it is for this week.

      you have some value locked up in your forward line!! get rid of Berbatov along with VDV

      and do lampard and welbeck/gyan/sturridge.

      Either way your third striker is likely to be on your bench, but I fancy sturridge for his double coming up later.

        Yeah, that's when I got him. Then he did well the next game, and then everyone else bought him based on the returns of those 2 games. I don't know if I'd still have him if it wasn't for the double.

          I'm keeping for the season now, i would only want to spend all the funds on other players when i'm happy with my team asit is other than doing 1/2 transfers a week to suit

    Lampard or Van Persie captain this week?

    Van Persie's away record since returning from injury has been brilliant and surely they'll put at least three past Blackpool? He's the safer option imo, Lampard could quite easily get 2 points.

      Think it'll be VP for me, Blackpool leaky defence + Wigan not conceding alot. VP'll have had a week off too. All that can go to bollocks tho. And usually does 😉

        Has to be really.

        Blackpool are the new Burnley imo, done well and all that so far but going to fall away at the end and get smashed in a few games. Arsenal need a big performance too!

          Think Holloway won't change his philosophy now either, will still attack & leave big gaps for the opposition. Conceded 13 in last 6 homes, Arsenal should help maintain that hopeless record.

              I transferred him out for Carroll, who I wouldn't of got had I known Zamora would start. I also considered Odemwingie who got 10 points.

              My worst week all season.

    During the period between the end of this season and the start of next season, can you see player's full stats for this season?

    Can't remember, thanks!

    Still trying to resolve my Silva or VDV issue.
    Anybody care to offer advice as to who to dump.
    Silva - many consider not to be a good FPL player but he's started to get goals, assists and BPs. Has nothing else to play in, plays in a team who may start playing more attacking football for the next few weeks.
    Cons: Not a great fixture this week but then again Liv defence quite deplted. Blank GW but I'll play Zigic anyway got no coverage of any other teams with blanks.
    VDV - is (or certainely was) a good FPL player, is on penos and free-kicks doesn't have a blank. Good fixtures surrounded by bad fixtures - could go mental in WBA/BLP.
    Cons: Looks knackered and has CL to play for. Also injury prone and looks jaded.

          Face the same problem. Due to fixtures I'm pretty sure to get rid of Silva. I will bring him back for GW36.
