Admittedly, investment in Gerard Houllier’s defence feels more than a little uncomfortable. Villa teeter just 2 points above the relegation zone, having faltered all season, despite a wealth of talent throughout the squad.

Given that talent, relegation is a threat but something that still seems an unlikely outcome. With a healthy run of games on the horizon (NEW whm STK wba WIG), Villa’s players should be considered decent Fantasy Premier League prospects entering the end of season slog – despite what the formbook tells us.

Kyle Walker is one player who particularly stands out from the Villa Park crowd, thanks to his 4.0 price tag in the Fantasy Premier League game and his relentless attacking raids down the right-flank.

Since completing his loan switch from Tottenham during the January transfer window, Walker has put in a shift of notable appearances which have seen him score twice; make no mistake, Walker is an attacking full-back of some quality and in a season where clean sheets have been notoriously hard to pin down, that could yet be a priceless commodity.

At this point it should be noted that Villa have not kept a clean sheet in 8 Premier League games but, given Walker’s attacking potential and the club’s supposedly easy run of games, one would still expect the full-back to deliver. Our members need only turn to their OPTA statistics to view the role that Walker has played since his arrival and how he stacks up against other full-backs in the league, particulary when it comes to successful dribbles and key passes.

Such statistics have seen Walker earn FPL bonus points – he’s fetched 3 in his 6 Premier League appearances for Villa. As a rule, full-backs struggle to attract such attention.

With a limited ownership of 1.4%, Walker has the differential factor in his favour but it’s that price tag that really helps to convince. At a time when Fantasy Managers are looking to secure big price assets in midfield and attack, Walker appears to offer the potential for points at the back for a pittance.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

I don't think so. I've got Stearman this week (don't know why I chose him over Elokobi tbh) to fund Lampard. Got him in the starting 11 this week too.

Not at all, Wolves are capable of getting cleanies and they have a decent run of fixtures. I'd actually rather have Elokobi over Walker tbh.

Well I am assuming you need 2 trades to get Lamps in whether you do it this week or next. And I assume you will probably have another trade in mind next week anyway, apart from the aforementioned 2.

So getting Lamps in will cost you 8 points, regardless of when you do it. And you may as well do it this week to take advantage of the WIG fixture.

          I know, a lot of assumptions 🙂

I hope I have a fit starting 11 though I'm tempted to bring in either a DJ or Hoillet for Zigic or try and find another defender to replace either Kelly or Coleman... Will Nani play??? that's my biggest concern.

    Team so far

    Bego

    Luiz, Walker, RJ

    Nani, Lamps, Adam, Bale, Young

    RVP, Tevez

Crock bench of Scezza, Kelly, Zigic & Coleman. 🙁

I've had it with the usual dilemna of who to bench, usually adam or hernandez. To solve my problem , I'm thinking
    Adam -> Fabregas
    Tevez -> any striker < 4.5

This leaves an attacking force of
    Lampard,Nani,VDV,Young,Fabrega
    RVP,Hernandez

    Yay or Nay ?

Bet365 is a good one. Don't use Paddy Power, I'm getting wound up just thinking about them.

If you're opening an account primarily for the National use Victor Chandler. They're paying 1/4 odds on SIX places and their sign-up bonus is a free bet to the value of your 1st bet (i.e. includes both win and place parts of an each way - most other online firms just use the win part)

No worries. I think it's best to have as many accounts as possible so you can cherry pick the best prices but Bet365 is probably the best all-rounder for number of markets and bonus offers. I like the tools provided by Ladbrokes (free access to Turftrax is very handy) but you don't have to sign up with them to use it.

So, my friends and potential enemies. Got any suggestions for me? I'm a bit stuck on what to do with my team. I have two free transfers and 0.7 in the bank. I'd like to get some Chelsea coverage in there for the double but I am prepared to be without Chelsea players for this week if necessary.

The big problem is that all players I'd have to sell to get Chelsea coverage are good for this gameweek. Here goes. Oh, I don't want to sell Rooney unless I really have to.

    Foster, Robinson
Kolarov, Coleman, R Johnson, Jiranek, Simpson
    Nani, VDV, Arshavin, Adam, Barton
    RVP, Rooney, Berbatov

    Thanks.

ideally wait a week for the berbatov one imo. let the transfer carry over to next week. problem is your defence for this week if you do that is looking a bit ropey but probably worth it. you may be one of the only people to benefit from kolarov this wek which is always a nice feeling, can't see kuyt and the over lapping carragher exposing him for pace 😆

            😆

Letting the transfer roll over is something I really think might be a good idea too. I don't think Lampard or Chelsea striker against Wigan is significantly better than Arshavin, Nani, VDV or Berbatov this week.

My 0.7 in the bank does allow me to just do Kolarov---> Luiz, which can be a very good transfer. Getting +2 games by that fot next gameweek too.

No, finding reasons to play him over those is hard. Don't have any crap midfielder you can drop?

One last suggestion before I stop harassing you, Kolarov+Jiranek ---------> Luiz+Walker? Would improve my defence a lot for the gameweek and Jiranek is a walking injury anyway and I don't trust him to do me any good in the double for next week anyway.

i have doubts over walker's starting place right now so not sure. he should play, justifying the jiranek -> walker transfer but for the first time since he broke into the team he has luke young and clark fit and available

it will be nice to know someone will benefit from a kolarov screamer. i'm keeping him for the season regardless of whether it makes sense or not, he's been too much fun and too much emotion has been invested in him

Not a bad choice. Would mean I'd struggle immensely to get Lampard for next week. Are you going without him?

Also bit worried about the "Alex might play 30 or 35 minutes" quote. I don't want to buy Luiz and see him subbed at 55 mins.

yeah look above, i'd save the transfer for next week in your situation, you'll have a better idea of which chelsea options are looking good by then. if drogba or torres explode you'll have a much easier and cheaper route into getting them than most

No and no. Spurs have hit the buffers, imo - and they have a small history of stuttering the weeks after CL. Fulham are very well organised now, and I think Berbatov may provide, but will not score. Wigan, on the other hand, are just crap. Downing is having his best FPL season ...

Downing has very much went under the radar despite being the sixth highest scoring midfielder this season. AV also have excellent fixtures.

I think I'll have to think about what you've said for a while, this is groundbreaking stuff 😉

Garg mate, I think those are very decent trades. Van der Vaart is looking dreadfully lacklustre recently and Fulham are extremely tight at the back so I don't see Berbatov scoring more than 6.

The only "fly in the ointment" is whether Drogs will play - I think he will, looks hungry again and I fancy Chelsea to give Wigan a pasting.

Downing has been consistent this year and Villa's fixtures are amongst the best around. Overall, I reckon the trades will pay off both short and long term.

The latest news is that I'm 0.6 short of being able to do those trades. Don't know how I counted the first time...

I can't even afford Torres instead of Drogba 🙄

I kind of like the idea. If I took a 4 pointer and dropped Robinson for Mignolet I could do it. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Doesn't really want to line up vidic walker and simpson as my defence why luiz is a good option but I think the chelsea forward who starts will get a lot of points.

Currently leading my mini league and the biggest threat has silva as his captain and he is spending this week on cyprus, which means that he won't change his team. I would love to have lamps but still, if silva scores good, i will kill myself!

Sorry man Daddy duties, I didn't really type what I meant. I just think that there's enough options there warrant it not a liability. 4-4-2 is the best option and I kinda forgot about Wilson but if he did take it up (the formation) I think it would be more a case of packing the midfield to see out a bore draw at the least.
