Carlos Tevez lasted less than quarter of an hour before departing the proceedings with a troubling hamstring injury at Anfield. Andy Carroll opens his Liverpool account and Kenny Dalglish displays his continued faith in youth as a sorry Man City were torn apart on a wet Monday night at Anfield. Here’s the notes on last night’s action…

Andy Carroll
The big-money signing looked closer to full fitness and tore into City’s lacklustre defence, grabbing a double and bagging all 3 Fantasy Premier League Bonus Points for his efforts. Priced at just £6.2m in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), Carroll’s partnership with Luis Suarez is still a work in progress but the pair showed glimpses of the force they will undoubtedly become, given time. The deadly duo look like being a real prospect in the Premier League next season and Liverpool fans must be savouring the 2011/12 campaign with relish already. Expect a big leap in his Fantasy price next term.

Up next this weekend is a trip to Arsenal, though Liverpool should have little to fear going into the Emirates trip if they keep up this level of performance. There follows two home matches against Birmingham and Newcastle which offers a great chance to boost that points tally in the fight for sixth place with rivals Everton.

Kenny’s Faith in Youth
Martin Kelly has already had game time until his minutes were curtailed by a hamstring injury, Jay Spearing is deputising (with great effect) for the injured Steven Gerrard, and last night saw Academy graduate John Flanagan become the latest youngster to get a chance under Kenny Dalglish. An injury to Carlos Tevez saw Flanagan line up directly against the Argentine’s replacement Mario Balotelli for the vast majority of this match and it’s a tribute to his assured performance that Balotelli made so little of an impact that he found himself subbed off before the match was through. Dirk Kuyt also deserves a mention for his all-action display in front of Flanagan on the right wing, as he tracked back to help the youngster and charged forward time and again in a performance that culminated in a well-deserved goal.

Carlos Tevez
Less than quarter of an hour into the game and disaster struck for City. Carlos Tevez limped off the pitch with a hamstring injury that will surely keep him out of this weekend’s FA Cup Semi Final with Man United. Post-match, Roberto Mancini certainly seemed dubious of his star forward‘s chances of making the Wembley clash. With City having no league match this weekend, Tevez is currently being transferred out in huge numbers with his availability for gameweek 34 and beyond currently far from certain.

City’s Shape
City started with something akin to a 4-4-1-1 formation, with Adam Johnson and James Milner on the wings and Tevez joined by Edin Dzeko up top. Tevez’s injury saw them revert to the more familiar 4-2-3-1, with Milner moving to the middle and Mario Balotelli coming off the bench to play out left, leaving Dzeko alone up front. Regardless of shape, however, there’s no getting away from the fact that City were abysmal.

Mancini Gets All Apologetic
Perhaps with the FA Cup in mind, Mancini left David Silva and Nigel De Jong on the bench for the Anfield showdown. Silva eventually entering the proceedings just before the hour mark to replace a thoroughly disgusted Milner and De Jong came on for Balotelli with less than ten minutes to go. The pair have been two of City’s most influential players this season and it’s maybe with hindsight that Mancini muttered after the match:

“I made a mistake, it was my fault. I’m very sorry for the fans.”

As mentioned, City miss a gameweek this weekend before taking on (bla, WHM, eve & TOT). With Spurs just three points behind -and with a game in hand- the Italian can ill-afford to make any more mistakes if he realistically expects to look beyond this season as the man in charge at Eastlands.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Would appreciate a bit of advice on my team:

    Foster Al-Habsi
    Vidic Luiz Walker Coleman Kelly
    Fabregas VDV Nani Adam Barton
    RVP Odemwingie Tevez

Was thinking about making the following changes for an 8 point hit after assessing injuries and fitness:
    1) Coleman, Barton & Tevez for Djourou, Lampard & Sturridge
If I was to make this change I would be left with 0.1 in the bank.

Does anyone think this is wise, i’m pretty much try to fend off a rival who seems to have already taken an 8 point hit himself but I reckon he’s just added some Chelsea cover to his team but I’m pretty sure he’s done Tevez to Carroll.

I would obviously be keeping Sturridge on the bench this weekend, but does anyone think I should be downgrading Vidic instead to raise for funds for a striker?

or Second option for a 4 point hit:

    2) Barton and Vidic to Lampard and Djourou

This would leave me some money spare and some time to decide which forward to bring in.

or Third Option for a 4 point hit:

    3) VDV & Tevez for Lampard & Carroll

I could them just keep Barton as a sub and play Carroll. But I feel hesitant to get rid of VDV, but it does mean I could upgrade Odemwingie to Zamora or Sturridge easily for G34.

    or Fourth option

    4) Tevez & Barton for Lampard & Hoilett

I reckon I want to bring in Lampard because i’m sure my rival wont have brought him in this week, so he and Fabregas would be my main differentials

    Sorry for the long post!

thoughts please...i put £100 on utd to qualify at evens last week, do i

    a) let it run and either be 100 up or 100 down

    b) put 40 on chelsea to win in 90mins at 5/2 meaning if utd qualify im 60up, if chelsea qualify im evens, but theres a slight chance if chelsea win 1-0 in 90mins and utd qualify i make 200 profit

Afternoon. I was thinking about saving a transfer this week and then transferring out 2 of my 3 Evertonians next week for DGW players but looking ahead to next week I'm not sure who I'd be dropping to accomodate these DGW players.

I'm coming to the conclusion that I may as well use the free transfer to ship out Coleman this gameweek to get in a Birmingham defender who will essentially be bench fodder for GW34. What do you think?

    GW33
    Foster(h,a)
    Luiz(a,h) Baines(h) Walker(a)
    Lampard(a,h) Nani(a) VDV(h) Young(a) Adam(h)
    RVP(h,a) Beckford(h)
    Subs: Begovic(none), Welbeck(a), Coleman(h) Huth(none)

    GW34
    Begovic(a,h)
    Luiz(h) Huth(a,h) Walker(h)
    Lampard (h), Nani(h), VDV(h), Adam(h) Young(h)
    RVP(a) Welbeck(h)
    Subs: Foster(a), Baines(a), Coleman(a), Beckford(a)

Pretty much the same conclusion I came to when thinking about players for week 34. I don't want to bench any of my big hitters, so there's no room for the doublers (mostly cheap players).

I dont make ferguson to walcott, I rather save my transfer and play ferguson.
Then I have 2 freebies for gw34 and can make coleman to huth + possibly torres => rooney or torres/wellbeck => bobby Z or ferguson => dempsey...

So I am making a long post hoping someone to say it's wiser to play ferguson and get your options open for gw34, rather than make a one week punt for walcott.

Vidic admits to crying during soppy films

The big tart. Mind you I was nearly bawling tears of boredom during the Notebook - load of arse that film.

A man after my own heart... I cry in literally every film with even a hint of sadness in it. Ice Age, Shrek and Monsters Inc. being just a few.

Should have seen me after watching The Green Mile for the first time a few weeks back. Was in an absolute state.

My defense is weak: Cech, Begovic, Coleman, Smalling, Luiz, Simpson, Kolarov.

Who should replace Coleman (May do Smalling to Hangeland next week)? I've considered RJ but there must be someone better?

i think id replace kolarov first as no fixture, i know coleman isnt playing that much but potentially a back 3 of coleman-smalling-luiz isnt bad for this week) - then the following week could bring in either/both fulham/stoke defender for the double, or walker

Argh, i'm still stuck for who to bring in this week for Nolan to give me a full starting XI. (under 7.2m) Currently looking at, in order of favouritism:

    Cleverley
    Walcott
    Osman
    Modric
    Bale

Someone get me out of this hole!!!

Also, I too am now following the Maynard train following posts on here.
