Over 460 Fantasy Managers put their name in the hat for the Members’ Paddy Power Cup and now, eight rounds later, we are down to our final two. Before previewing the Grand Final, let’s take a look at how both finalists negotiated their way through the Semis…

Zophar 61 – 75 Kippax Kloggers

Roostars 66 – 71 The Hunt

In our first Semi-Final, big favourite Zophar suffered a hefty 14-point defeat at the hands of Kippax Kloggers. In a very similar fashion to his Quarter-Final dismissal of Cup legend Gooner dave, Kippax Kloggers’ win came courtesy of a strong defensive showing. With most of the outfield ‘cancelled out’, it was left to a double of Everton clean sheets and a bargain Manchester United one to ultimately prove the difference between the two sides. If Zophar -currently ranked 14th in the world in Fantasy Premier League (FPL)- can recover from this trauma, then he could possibly go win the whole thing, and we certainly wish him the best of luck in doing so.

The second Semi was a much tighter affair, with the key differentials being David Luiz in a 4-5-1 for Roostars, to Peter Odemwingie in a 3-4-3 for The Hunt. Roostars is also left bemoaning his failed four-point hit; removing Rafael van der Vaart and the suspended Wayne Rooney wasn’t costly, but replacing the pair with Frank Lampard and Javier Hernandez hardly turned out to be a fruitful move.

So, to the Final…

Kippax Kloggers Vs. The Hunt

Ranked 2,772nd in the world, Kippax Kloggers takes an early lead (effectively half a point) against 9,996th overall The Hunt. As it stands, he also goes into the double Gameweek an Arsenal player up (Samir Nasri) which could prove vital should The Hunt not level that particular balance. An interesting potential differential is Kippax Kloggers’ Fernando Torres to The Hunt’s David Luiz. Having said that I imagine Luiz will, like with many others, be high on Kippax Kloggers’ wish list.

The winner, of course, grabs all the glory which comes with a fantastic prize of £75 worth of free bets, as the runner-up takes the very healthy consolation of £100 worth of free bets.

Don’t forget that it’s also Zophar Vs. Roostars for third place, with the victor pocketing a cool £50 worth of free bets.

I’ll bring results of both matches next week when we crown the first ever winner of the Members-only Paddy Power Cup.

If you’re not with Paddy Power yet, then you can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register and bet £10. (All offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions.)

Giggs was 'top player' according to the horrible designed, impossible to navigate UEFA site:

yeah thats what confused me, but "top player" isn exactly MOTM.. personally i think it could have been anyone from giggs, rooney, park, in that order..
7/1 was crazy that why i backed it, it was in a small town bookies, and i wont be in that town again till the weekend! 🙁

        was rooney that good?
he didn't create a single chance and his only 2 shots were from 60 yards and 35 yards, both of which cech caught with ease. he worked his ass off and was busy but i'm not sure spraying passes across the pitch and being no threat to the chelsea goal equates to being great.

Giggs was the difference, Rooney second most due to his dropping deep and spreading play (if he didn't do it dunno who would of) and I'd say Rio was 3rd best United player..resuming his bullying of Torres.

Rooney basically played the Scholes from 6 or 7 years ago role - more attacking midfielder than striker, switching the play, making use of our natural width against a midfield of Essien, Ramires and Lamps that lacked width.

i'd agree with that. i can appreciate that last night wasn't about goals for man utd and more about stopping chelsea playing for which rooney did a very good job. i also appreciate that even if rooney didn't set up anything or get on the end of anything he did a very good job of occupying terry and alex (as park's goal showed).
basically just don't think he was as good as giggs last night which really isn't a criticism, more just shows how awesome giggs is. MOTM is subjective of course and i was throwing my view out there

Need to switch around my dire defence, but can’t afford another Chelsea defender, and am worried about rotation.

    So here’s an idea:

    Foster -> Cech?

Gives me double the Chelsea cover, with no risk of rotation, don’t lose a double, more likely to get clean sheets this week. All of which means I’m more likely to be able to afford myself a 4pt hit to switch a defender, as Cech will likely outscore Foster.

    Sound like sense?

I agree - he's been my keeper all season long so it's a tough call, but he's got a hard run-in fixture-wise, and Cech seems far more assured of CSs, which I could really do with!

Bit of a wasted transfer imo, if you want to switch a def do it as a freebie rather than adding a hit.

    Drogba or Torres?

      a) because he's an injury doubt
      b) he's a rotation threat and less likely to play with everton winning 3-0 without him
      c) he's shite

right now (with 0.6 in the bank) it’s a straight swap torres > drogba

drogba will go up tonight, meaning that i have to make 2 moves for him if ‘nando continues his drought and i want to bring in the drogz for gw34.

will cost me 4 points…is it worth it?

some have advised me against taking the hit for drogz, none have advised against keeping ‘nando.

would anyone else in my situation be asking for a second opinion?

Anyone else think Lampard was muck last night? And Malouda not very far behind him? Ramires is their only midfielder that appeals to me in some way and at that not very much either. Hard to know what to do for 33. I already have Luiz and Drogba and won't be taking another Chelsea defender.

Djourou returning from injury is great news for some, but reasons why he will walk straight back into the team for BOTH games?

Joahn Djourou has been one of Arsenal's best performers this season. Probably one of the most underrated players in the league.

Arsenal have conceded just 4 goals in 1200+ minute when he's been on the pitch.

Cant seem to bring in any double GW players for GW34. Probably Jarvis/Dempsey/O Hara. from Bolton, Wolves, FUlham. Their fixtures are pretty bad and will get rid the next GW. Not worth dismantling the squad for them

So now chelsea are out of all the cups terry is the man right? Luiz seems a booking liability and rotatable, we all know alex is chelseas best defender or maybe ivanovic so its going to be captain terry plus one of those three every match now isnt it? Oh also sturridge plays as a wide man part of an attacking front three doesnt he?

All Chelsea players unbalance your team because they're so expensive. Only player who doesn't is Torres/Drogba because they can be switched for Rooney.

Basically Chelsea players cost 4 points to bring in and 4 points to get rid (and redistribute cash), but you just hope they make that up while they're in there.

Does anyone think it's weird that you can play chess with the same person hundreds of times yet the games will all be completely different. How come you think one decision is the best, but then the next game it changes?

Just a thought. And makes me think the same person could be sitting here with an entirely different fantasy football team if they'd been in a slightly different mood last february.
