Bottom of the Premier League table is a precarious place to be with only six games remaining on the fixture list. Wigan Athletic currently hold this unenviable position, but the scenario is not quite as disastrous as it may seem. With a mere eight points separating themselves from 9th placed Newcastle United, up to eleven clubs, in theory, could still tumble down to the Championship – the Latics have a fighting chance.

If offered 17th place right now, Roberto Martinez and Wigan supporters would undoubtedly bite your arm off and yet, the Latics are currently just two points off a Blackpool side in that position, who themselves have just one win in their last twelve games. Wigan go to Blackpool this weekend and with a relatively handsome run of games to conclude the end of season dogfight (blp, sun, EVE, avl, WHM, stk), it’s fair to say that we shouldn’t write them off both as a Premier League side and a source of Fantasy talent.

The first Wigan player that springs to mind for many a Fantasy Premier League (FPL) veteran is Charles N’Zogbia. The French left winger has been something of an institution in recent seasons due to his modest price tag and an ability to fetch hefty FPL returns – this season he has claimed 117 FPL points, which is almost double the majority of his team-mates have mustered.

One of N’Zogbia’s major draws is his blossoming relationship with the FPL Bonus Points judges. This season has seen this maintained – N’Zogbia has collected 26 – bettered by just Charlie Adam, Luka Modric and Carlos Tevez. With six favourable fixtures to go, you wouldn’t put it past N’Zogbia to surpass his tally of 31 from last term. Aside from his Bonus potential, N’Zogbia can also pose a serious threat when the mood takes him. With regular set piece involvement thrown into the miz, N’Zogbia has found the back of the net on 4 occasions, assisting 5 times this season.

N’Zogbia is unquestionably a class act but it’s Wigan’s need for points and the Frenchman’s own ambitions to catch the eye ahead of a potential summer move, that makes him worthy of consideration.

Wigan’s form shouldn’t necessarily be a concern. Speaking after the recent loss to Chelsea, gaffer Martinez admitted that his side are playing decent football and thinks they have what it takes to pick-up the points needed escape the drop:

“The players were on the floor but more because of the lack of the result. They are all aware in the last eight games we have reached a level. We’ve finally clicked and the players know that. I think 41 points is needed to stay up especially as we have the worst goal difference.”

N’Zogbia has the ability to play a major part in Wigan’s escape act and emerge as true end of season Fantasy force. Roberto Martinez and any Fantasy investors will be relying on the Frenchman turning up though – the fact that N’Zogbia was subbed after 60 minutes of the 1-0 defeat at Chelsea indicates that Martinez will sacrifice the winger if he feels he lacks the stomach for the battle. That’s a concern, but at just 5.5 and with an ownership of 7.2% in the FPL, N’Zogbia is a player of proven Fantasy pedigree about to embark on a kind run of fixtures that could put him firmly in the summer shop window.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

Nani out for me for a couple of weeks I think

      Imo plays FA Cup
rested v New (as Rooney is back)
      plays v Everton
rested away to Schalke with Park and Valencia playing a 5 man midfield

I too had the Nani VDV confusion. I decided that as nani will most likely be rotated and potentially brought on for a few minutes, and that VDV had a double week coming up, I'll get rid of Nani and pray.

Was looking at securing Carr services for this just to throw in another DGW player, already having Foster would it make sense to go for Djourou now instead?

Don't expect cleanies this week (don't expect any from Carr either) but he's dirt cheap, 0.5 less than Carr and Arsenal are so much more solid with him (r they still unbeaten in the league with him?)

Seems a no brainer to me?

Carr would purely be for the double, if you've got Foster anyway - Djourou would be long-term. Look at his scores pre-injury.

I've seen many people asking about/considering bringing in Djourou this week ... and I'm wondering if I'm missing something --

Arse play 'Pool and Tot this week - does anyone think Dj will score more than 4 for the 2 games? He'd be *lucky* to score 4, I believe.

A second-string defender with a 4th/2nd string 'keeper against two teams with much to play for.

Yeah, he's cheap - you'll get what you pay for this week, I reckon.

Was he not behind Vermaelen/Squillaci/Koscielny at the beginning of the season?

I didn't intend 'second-rate' defender ... but just that he was fist-choice pairing at CB at start of season -- but perhaps he was injured? I confess my memory is a bit murky -

you get what you pay for, true, but at 4.0 absolutely anyone can afford him. thinking longish term as well, Arsenal might not have the best defence but they are title challengers and you dont win the title if you leak goals every match.

The way I see it, he's a 4.0 def who plays when fit, which is all I really want from my cheapie def. And he has a double (not the greatest double, but neither has Carr.)

The fact that he plays for a top 2 team is a bonus. I'd only get him if definitely fit.

Highest scoring player in game. Defo not Ronlado but then who is (well Ronaldo is). Rotation worry and expensive player to have on bench but I'm holding on to him just now I think. Prob change about 100 times between now and deadline lol

not much use when he is on the bench though

I see lots of opportunity with my team to take advantage of the DGWs coming up - and that means nani out. might get in valencia after the doubles. I have rooney anyway

This game is all about points. And Nani has been a reliable points getter. Hard to recommend ditching him, although difficult to see the future is. As Yoda said. I think.

    FOSTER (Hennessey)

    TERRY, LUIZ, DJOUROU, Coleman (Wilkinson)

LAMPARD, Nani, Adam (A Young, Barton)

    RVP, Bent, Carroll

I want to double up on Chelsea at the back so that means downgrading a mid. So Kolarov to Terry means I have to get rid of one of VDV, Nani and Young for Adam.

VDV looked poor tonight and hasnt done anything for a while, but they have 3 out of 4 at home in the upcoming fixtures as well as a double. Although the better fixtures start in a couple weeks so may just make plans to get Bale in as he looks better right now.

Nani is my only man utd coverage but I dont think I can work Rooney in easily. He does seem like he could be a little rotation risk though.

A Young fixtures look good but I do have bent as cover. Was going to get rid of him but unsure now.

Who would you get rid of? A Young, VDV or Nani?

I am getting rid of Young and VDV this week, VDV was just too poor tonight to convince me he can do anything in the next few, Young is playing too deep for my liking and I think the money that pays for an assist per game can be better spent up front at the moment with Carroll coming back on the scene, Rooney/RVP/Drogba et al

Young has piddely piss fixtures so prob wouldn't be him..VDV does have them homies & dooblie so prob wouldn't be him..Nani could well be rotated, & if the league is wrapped up early, who knows how much gametime he'll see. Reluctantly, Nani...

Exactly where is this nonsense about selling Nani coming from? Is he injured or something that I don't know? he is a consistent if not THE most consistent FF player this season he has even got pts off the bench so exactly why are people selling now?

There is a good chance he won't appear in the next gameweek. Surely he will play in the FA Cup with Rooney out?
At this stage in the season I can't afford to have rotarisks.

There is no player in the game atm that can replace Nani,so why sell and vomit watching him take apart newcastle because you thought he 'might' not play, the risk seem a bit to high for little benefit. Honestly if there was an 'in-form' play around I could understand but I am hearing people selling for Malouda and Ramires and walcott ...really?

I'm 90% sure he wont start against Newcastle. Even if he does I have faith in Jose Enrique and Gutierrez's ability to nullify him to limit his potential for points. There aren't many gameweeks left, every one is vital. I'm swapping him for Charlie Adam.

As ATB said, odds are that he will play at the weekend to give United the edge they will lose without Rooney, and then Valencia/Park/Anderson can play on Tuesday with Nani benched, I think that he will not play, I made 1 million on him this season, but where he is going to be rested, I think it is better going for players you can rely on every game.

It's the rotation risk with valencia and park back now and three comps to try to win. Highly likely he won't start v newcastle and other games too

I understand that I is 'likely' that he could be rested but has anyone been able to predict fergie's next move all season. The guy is probably insane at chess so Nani might well be rested for the FA cup or play both games,I am just saying the risk is a bit high when the players replacing him have a greater chance of scoring 2 pts

For the last few days I've planned to replace Baines with Terry. Now though, I'm thinking about VDV>Malouda, despite already having Lampard. This will give:

    Foster (Begovic)
    Baines Luiz Coleman/Walker
    Nasri Walcott Adam Lampard Malouda
    RVP Bent

I want to keep Baines as long as possible, and I think Malouda looks a better bet than Lampard.

I don't think my heart could stand a double on Chelsea's defence. 12 points could turn to 4 points with one mistake.
