In the final match of gameweek 34, Bolton took their dreadful form on the road to Craven Cottage, a ground that’s virtually a fortress under Mark Hughes. There was only ever going to be one winner here, and so it proved; a Clint Dempsey brace eased any lingering relegation doubts for Fulham as they ran out emphatic winners, while the American’s Fantasy owners enjoyed an evening that transformed a decent gameweek into a great one. Here’s the lowdown on last night’s events…

Clint Dempsey
Dempsey’s double took his goals tally to 12 this season, and was duly awarded 3 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Bonus Points for his display. Given that Fulham’s three forwards have managed nine between them, Dempsey’s importance to this side cannot be downplayed. Surprisingly, this was the first time he had found the net at home since gameweek 22, back in January, and the 16 point haul means he’s now the fourth-highest scoring FPL midfielder. Top of our Captain Poll going into the gameweek, those who handed Dempsey the FPL armband were delivered rich rewards for their foresight.

Dempsey, who will travel to face the obliging Sunderland defence at the weekend, was understandably delighted with his showing…

“I was fired up to get goals because I haven’t scored in three games..I was starting to get the itch a little and feel the pressure to perform, so it was good that I was able to do that tonight and help be a part of the team’s success in getting the three points to get us into the top half of the table.”

Fulham Prevail Despite Injuries
With Damian Duff missing the double gameweek completely due to an Achilles problem and Bobby Zamora still feeling his way back to fitness, Fulham could have been expected to struggle for goals last night but Craven Cottage seems to add an extra edge to their play; it’s six wins and one draw from seven, with six clean sheets thrown in for good measure. Mark Hughes can surely relax now; with 42 points Fulham should be safe, though with (sun, LIV, bir, ARS) left to come, the home record will be put under further scrutiny.

Bolton’s Away Day Blues Continue
Daniel Sturridge failed to recover from an ankle knock sustained in the weekend win over Arsenal, forcing Owen Coyle to start Kevin Davies and Johan Elmander together up front for the first time since gameweek 25. Bolton arrived in good spirit after beating Arsenal to banish those FA Cup Semi Final blues, but gave a toothless performance here. Sturridge’s loss didn’t help, though it’s worth noting that he had failed to score in his last two away games.

Bolton have one point from their last nine games on the road and though with their next three fixtures all definitely winnable, Coyle will be calling on his troops for another morale-boosting performance after another forgettable display away from the Reebok.

Trotters Limping Towards Ewood Clash
In addition to the ankle injury carried by Sturridge, Bolton also lost Mark Davies prior to the game with his own ankle problems. Gretar Steinsson then turned his knee during last night’s match and was forced off on 67 minutes. He will go into the weekend clash at Blackburn as a doubt along with Sturridge and Davies.

Was thinking, but gotta ask advice...

    Currently with:

    Nani - A.Young - Lampard - Dempsey - Adam

van Persie - Caroll - Gyan

    5 options come in mind:

    1. Nani > Kuyt ; Dempsey > Silva ; Gyan > Odemwingie (8pt hit)

    2. Nani > Kuyt ; A.Young > Silva (4pt hit)

    3. A.Young > Silva ; Dempsey > Yaya Toure (4pt hit)

    4. Dempsey > Silva ; Gyan > Odemwingie (4pt hit)

    5. Nani > Silva ; Dempsey > Yaya Toure ; Gyan > Suarez (4pt hit)

Personally, I vouch for options 1 or 5. Thoughts are welcomed.

Guys have to sell one of Drogba or Lamps to get Suarez and Silva in, who should i go for? I'm thinking i should stick with drogba as Ancelloti might start with 2 upfront with lamps playing deep in midfield. What do you guys think?

I don't want to get stuck with too many Chelsea players though as they have United next week and i think Liverpool coverage is a must they've been irresistible at Anfield lately.

    Captaincy options:

    Che bunch:
Lamps and Drogs. Against Tot there will be goals. But Torres possibly starting is giving question marks about the formation. It means it could be against Lamps, he'll play deeper or Drogba could even play on the wing like in the CL. Which gives us uncertainty and maybe puts us off Drogs/ Lamps captaincy.

    City players
Its Silva actually or maybe gambling with captaining City defender. I don't feel comfortable to captain Yaya. On the other hand W ham are without Parker, Noble and Upson so they should be leaky at the back, but how many times we were burned captaining City home player and the score as 0 0 or 1 0 at the end?

RVP - Maybe he is the real deal. NO matter what is the result for Arsenal he keeps scoring. But Utd will defend in this game IMO and could be low scoring affair.

Than we have Adam. I think it is time for him to get those 3 BP again. And there is no clear candidate from the other side for BP. Also we should expect goals and Schawcross penalty 😉

    The conclusion:
It is gonna be difficult and crucial. Give your opinion pls.

Lamps, Silva or Suarez for (c)

This home match of Bpl vs Stoke might be their last chance of staying into the league. So kinda Adam (c) is a smart choice, not a safe one thou.

I'm siding with Kuyt to be honest. Insane run of form for both him and Liverpool, against a weak side @Anfield. It really depends on whether Carroll is fit though, if he starts it f*cks that captaincy choice up. However if Carroll remains offield I think it's a great choice 🙂

So I also got burnt from Dempsey`s brace and Zamora not playing. My team right now is:

    Foster
    Luiz-Terry-R Johnson
    Adam-Lamps-Dempsey-Jarvis
    RVP-Zamora-Bent
    Bench: Robinson, Walters, Smalling, Tamas

Thinking about Dempsey&Jarvis OUT for Kuyt&Silva IN
Then for the dgw getting VDV and Djourou (the latter because of lack of funds)

    Any thoughts?

The City/Spurs DGW is a tricky one. Can't see much value in overloading.

City - Everton (A,) Tottenham (H), They'll play for a draw against Spurs and Everton will be tough to break down aswell.

Spurs - Blackpool (H), City (A), The Blackpool fixture is a good one, but they follow the City fixture with Liverpool (A), do you really want to be stuck with 3 spurs players for that?

      2 mids 1 defender

Just going to be getting VDV next week, and I think that'll be enough for Spurs given the fixtures.

And I keep changing my mind about City. Going to gamble and get three this week I'm pretty certain. Definitely getting Silva, with two from Lescott, Kolarov, Yaya & Balotelli (although, going off the Balotelli idea now). The more I think about it the more it makes sense to go for two defenders to me.

Said Selby would easily beat Ding and probably get to the final...

I'm struggling to get that enthusiastic about City midfielders:

Yaya - solid, unexpectacular, could quite easily get 2 points every game.

Silva: overpriced, doesn't play 90 minutes, prone to rotation.

Given that I can only play 4 mids (Odem) and I'm not selling Lampard, Adam, or (still) Nani - that leaves me with Young out - and Young could easily do as well as Yaya or Silva this week.

    Hmmmm.

I would say both but for that matter Yaya is consistent although mancini admited he won´t make silly decisions like the one that saw silva in the bench! But yeah Yaya is a force of nature...

Yaya - this week's 4 pointer was his 4th best score since before xmas.

Silva - rotation risk, doesn't play 90 when he does start.

    Adam, Lampard, Dempsey, Nani
    Carroll,Rooney,RVP

    (Begovic, Ohara, Simpson, Stearman)

    Advice please.

    Should I,

    C) Cole –> Kolarov
    D) Cole –> Kolraov and Dempsey –> Silva (4 point hit)
    E) Carroll –> Odemwingie (If Carroll is out)
    F) Carroll –> Odemwingie and Dempsey --> Silva (4 point hit)

Just a simple Cole>Kolerov for me. Only take hits if absolutely necessary (this GW is not)
      Who are going to captain?

I will captain Adam. Blackpool will score and he is usually involved. Kolarov covers Man City defence and attack so he is probably the best option without taking a hit

Gonna be a good week of captain differentials this week as no obvious choice.

    Foster Begovic
    Huth Simpson Hangeland Carr Dawson
    Adam Fabs Meireles Nani Barton
    Odem RVP Drogs £0.1

    I'm thinking Huth>Kolerov and Adam(C)

Hopefully Stoke will be knackered after injuries & cramming games in. Can See Blackpool doing well.

    Adam Nani Walcott Bale Malouda

    Rooney Rvp Carrol

Planning to do bring in some spurs/city midfielders.

A: Nani -> Silva this week Malouda -> VDV next week

B: Nani -> Yaya this week Adam -> VDV next week

Of City's 11 starters, you've probably chosen the 10th least likely to score a goal. Just ahead of Hart.

anyone keeping nani? looks terribly low on confidence, all his little runs petering out into nothingness, hiding in games. etc. seems an awful waste of 9 mil, especially given his current sulking demeanour

Who are the options? Silva who is even more overpriced and doesn't play 90, Yaya who's only got 4 scores above 3 since Christmas, VdV - well maybe.

Going to keep him for this week as he'll probably start, and i have an inkling he will tear clichy apart, as he has done in the past.

Will definitely get rid the week after for silva or yaya though.

Things I've learnt from this FPL season (Part 1)...

Never buy a striker beginning with the letter Z (and don't ever captain them for a double gamesweek)

So moving on is anyone else thinking of Dzeko for GW34 or a bit too risky?
