The Dugout Discussion opens up bright and early on this Bank Holiday Sunday as we look forward to a bumper feast of footballing action.

Birmingham play host to Wolves and Liverpool welcome Newcastle to Anfield first as the mid-day kick-offs see all those skippering Dirk Kuyt and Luis Suarez (yours truly included) hoping for a good start. Then it’s Arsenal’s turn to host Manchester United as Alex Ferguson looks to either get one hand firmly on the Premier League trophy or open up a crunch game with Chelsea next week. Finally, Manchester City play host to bottom of the table West Ham as all those backing David Silva with their captaincy are made to wait.

Full line-ups sourced from the official website on our two early kick-offs follow…

Birmingham XI: Foster; Carr, Johnson, Jiranek, Ridgewell; Larsson, Ferguson, Bowyer, Gardner; Phillips, Jerome

Wolves XI: Hennessey; Mancienne, Stearman, Craddock, Elokobi; Foley, O’Hara, Henry, Jarvis; Fletcher, Ward.

Two changes for the home side see Barry Ferguson and Kevin Phillips bring their many years of experience back to the starting XI in place of Keith Fahey and Aleksander Hleb. A fit again George Elokobi comes straight back in to the side, while Kevin Foley also starts as Wolves also make two changes.

Liverpool XI: Reina; Flanagan, Carragher, Skrtel, Johnson; Lucas, Spearing, Maxi, Meireles; Kuyt, Suarez

Newcastle XI: Krul; Simpson, Williamson, Coloccini, Jose Enrique; Barton, Tiote, Nolan, Gutierrez; Ameobi, Lovenkrands

Andy Carroll has to make do with a place on the bench versus his old side, so hat-trick hero Maxi Rodriguez retains his place while Dirk Kuyt stays up front. Glen Johnson also returns from injury. Newcastle are unchanged.

Three games on the trot, televised, with little room for a break inbetween. Time to settle in, head into the Dugout Discussion if it takes your fancy, and look forward to six hours of consecutive Premier League action.

I reckon he was offside too.

Obviously that incident in the last minute evens it out, after Vidic should have been sent off in the 20th minute. 🙄

Amidst all the chaos, the fact that Vidic blatantly cheated seems to have been forgotten and almost excused. Pathetic.

Think the main gripe is that he's united's best defender, and would have been suspended from the final 3 matches had he been dismissed. As it is, he could have a big hand in the title being in Manchester again.

Erm, Arsenal won. So that decision didn't affect the result, whereas Chelsea won from two incorrect decisions.

Or are you saying that against 10 men Arsenal would've put a few past us, and if the league goes down to goal difference then it's significant?

Don't worry, United'll see you off next week, but if we don't we'll stick 10 past Blackpool to put it to bed.

No, I'm just pre-empting the comments that the possible penalty and the end makes up for the Vidic incident, when it clearly doesn't.

Would be epic if we do win at OT though. We'd have to go all out in our home game against Newcastle, and you'd have to go for it against Blackpool. Would make Chelsea and Utd attacking investment in FPL absolutely essential.

Why are you banging on about it. It didn't affect the result, no one (else) cares.

The final day would be unbearable if it went to goal difference. I'd fancy United's chances even if somehow they needed 6 against Blackpool.

Thats exactly it, some players like Vidic chance their arm (haha) and might get lucky with the ref decisions. Other times its just decisions that go the other teams way (Chelseas two goals). As they said earlier, the officials get an instant to see what happened and thats it, no luxury of replaying it.

Special praise for Arsenal's new Mr Try-Hard, Andrei Arshavin.

He was awful in possession, but has been working uncharacteristically hard since Walcott stole his starting place.

He didn't even try hard! Cliche had no defensive support at all. He is disgustingly lazy.

Apols if this already covered, but is Suarez due an assist? Heard on radio he was fouled for penalty.

I hope so. Today has been absolutely awesome for me. Goalie clean sheet, also captained Suarez and had Kuyt and RVP, now it's over to Yaya and Lescott.

Just imagine if Arsenal had won even one of the last 3? Bottled their best chance in years.

Chelsea's to lose now, especially after being handed 3 points yesterday. That result and the manner of it yesterday is the turning point in the title race and I just know they're going to go on and win it now. F*cking joke.

Bottled = suffered terrible refereeing decisions at crucial points of the game.

          - Arshavin goal ruled out for offside incorrectly vs. Sunderland

          - Kuyt penalty in the 250th minute because Lucas backed into an onrushing Eboue

          - van Persie's goal ruled offside incorrectly vs. Sp*rs at 3-2

          they're the main 3 really.

            1st one fair enough.

Kuyt penalty was just naive from Eboue and it was only fair it was given.

RVP's goal wouldn't have gone in if it wasn't called offside, you can just about see Gomes had reacted to the whistle just before it reached him.

yeah, because Gomes never spills things 🙄

Eboue was Naive, but he didn't foul Lucas - Lucas ran into his path.

You don't believe that yourself do you? Even Mr. Wonder would see that you've bottled it every time you've had a chance to take the lead or close in on Utd.

kuyt pen was a 50-50 which we have seen penalties like them given and not given and the pen against spurs was a clear pen so move on mf...ur team should have no excuse of losing the lead in the last min of injury time and throwing away 2 goals lead against spurs....

        Bolton, Spurs, Liverpool?

By my accounts there were no referee's decisions that cost you in those games, only your own ability to bottle at key moments. You'd be top if you won those three which you really should have done.

If Chelsea beat United next week then they're best placed. They only really have to win their remaining three to clinch it now.

A defeat to Chelsea will knock it out of United and the manner in which they beat spurs and will inevitably beat United next week will be enough to spur them on to win it.

How can it possibly be Chelsea's title to lose, Man Utd are 3 points ahead with an identical goal difference!?!
